I really enjoyed this book! It was easy to read, had wonderful loveable characters, it was warm, light & fluffy and perfect for a warm summer's day. Would definitely recommend!
A Forget-me-not Summer by Sophie Claire
Natasha has finally got her life back on track and is happy after a dramatic end to her short lived marriage. Luc her ex husband shows up with a proposition for her.
A very well written heartwarming story set in Provence. The description of the area and the life have you thinking your there with some interesting characters thrown in.
Very enjoyable read.
A perfectly plotted story, wonderful characters with unique personalities and heartwarming throughout.... this book is quite honestly perfection!.
The story captivated me, and I just HAD to carry on reading...I finished it off within a day.
I couldn't recommend this book highly enough.
I very much enjoyed this book. It has a good story and excellent main characters. I would definately recommend this book.
A gentle, lovely and warm romance, set predominately on a Provencal vineyard.
Natasha hadn't looked back after leaving her ex-husband Luc, so was rather shocked when he appeared in her florist shop, 3 years after the divorce. Not only that he was after a favour, that would involve her lying to his entire family, who she has never met before for two weeks.
She is cajoled (well very much enticed), to agree to Luc's mad proposition even though they can barely be civil to each other, they agree to pretend they are still married, as it will help Jean Pierre, Luc's father while he is in hospital and has requested her presence.
As the book went on I found myself warming to Luc, more and more, he initially is really hard to like, especially as we see just why their brief marriage broke down in the first place. But more than Luc, I absolutely adored his family.
They were just all really rounded people who clearly were keen to get to know Natasha, and in the case of Caroline's children, teach her French too.
I just really enjoyed this incredibly pleasant read, it was a fabulous break from the Christmas books I've been reading, although I am looking forward to reading Sophie Clare's new book A Winter's Dream as soon as I can. This was my second book by the author and I really like her writing style and storytelling ability.
A good and enjoyable book, and one I'm glad I was able to sit and read in a day, which doesn't happen that often at the moment.
Thank you to Hodder and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Lied this book a lot. The love story at the heart of it was heartwarming and I liked that there are other books in the series to read.
Unfortunately, I was slow in downloading this story and it was archived before I had the chance. I'm sure it is a wonderful read.
Ahhh, this book was so lovely, I enjoyed reading it so much - one of the ones you want to finish as you want the happy ending, but also don’t want to finish as you’re really loving reading it.
I’ve not previously read anything by Sophie Claire, but I really like her style of writing, so easy to get into and read, with wonderful, fully formed characters.
This book was a joy of summer reading, filled with sunshine, flowers, wine and missed chances for love. The author’s descriptions of the French summer and surroundings were fantastic, you can really feel her affection for the place and almost smell the Provençal lavender.
I loved reading about Natasha and Luc’s relationship and willed them to get together right throughout the book, it was such and enchanting story.
I will most definitely be looking out for other books written by Sophie Claire & she’s now on my list of favourite authors. The added touch of recipes, and the glimpses into Sophie’s childhood summers in France, are wonderful - I have written down several to try.
This is the perfect book for summer, I adored reading it.
My first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. It’s an interesting plot, but one that would probably has happened in real life! Great holiday read for romantic escapism.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
Natasha and Luc divorced years ago. Luc never told his family, and now his father is sick and Luc wants Natasha to pretend to be married to him still and visit his family. As they spend time together they admot how they really felt during their short marriage. Is it too late for them to have a second chance?
For me, this was one of those books where I found myself having to just keep reading one more chapter, then another, way into the night. I love how this story unfolded. I loved how we get to know the characters Luc and Natasha, and the true reasons why they feel how they feel about each other, but they hadn't really understood it themselves. I heartily recommend reading this book.
Enjoyable read. Would recommend to friends and family. I could sympathise with characters (important for any fiction novel!) and looked forward to picking it up and reading the next few chapters! Interesting plot line and a good ending. Will look out for more novels by the author. Thank you.
This was a sweet second chance romance read which I really enjoyed.
Natalie really doesn't want to give Luc another chance after he has come back into her life after not telling his family they were no longer married. After Luc's dad fall's ill, she goes back to France with Luc to help him but is determined not to fall for him again, however it's not easy as she sees him with his family.
The story was a slow build for me but once I hit the 50% I wanted to keep reading. The story show's that communication is key and that is where everything went wrong the first time for Natalie and Luc. This is the perfect sweet, light hearted summer romance read, perfect for an afternoon garden read in the sun.
This has to be one of the most predictable books I have read in a very long time but I loved every second of it right from the very first page.
This is the perfect definition of a chick lit to me - I was drawn in to it all, and couldn't wait to continue reading to find out where their relationship took them.
If you like a typical chick lit book this is one for you!
A lovely escapist story that I enjoyed. The characters are fleshed out, the setting is lovely and the plot flows.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
Sophie’s brilliant writing just immerses you in an idyllic french countryside, a wonderful second chance romance and amazing characters. I absolutely loved this story, it gave me such a warm and happy time just reading it. I loved the fact it takes you time to warm to Luc, as what he’s done it should be you warm to him slowly as Natasha slowly changes her feelings and I adore the fact Sophie takes you on that journey too. It’s a wonderful heartwarming read, a fantastic summer read to dream of France and sunny places.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
This book is the perfect Summer escapism in this uncertain time. It is an easy and lighthearted read. The location in Provence, France is idyllic, and the descriptions are realistic- you can visualise them, and make you want to visit.
I enjoyed reading this book, and I look forward to reading more books by
Sophie Claire. Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC.
🌻Lovely setting for a second chance!🌄
The country setting in luscious, sunny Provence was a major positive in this story of Natasha and Luc, briefly married and brought back together for a time due to illness in Luc's winemaking family. I really liked and sympathized with Natasha but Luc never really won me over. He's got a lovely extended family, though, and I even liked the crotchety farm couple who ultimately saves the day for Luc's younger sister's wedding!
This is the second of author Sophie Claire's novels that I've read and I like their depth and her writing style. The characters open up gradually to expose their pasts, fears and hopes to each other and bring us into their motivations. There's enough drama in smaller doses throughout the story to keep me eagerly turning the page as the romance works itself through. I love a story with a beautiful setting, cute kids and supportive secondary characters; this story had all those plus a central relationship that resonated with me. Luc's attitude to love and commitment and his single-minded attention to his business were not so unusual or unrealistic, just not very in tune with Natasha's needs. I guess they made the ending that much better, though!😌
Thanks to publishers Hodder & Stoughton and NetGalley for providing an advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review and opinions expressed are completely my own.
I would like to thank Sophie for emailing me to review her wonderful book and for answering some questions for me which appear below. I would also like to thank Hodder & Stoughton for sending me a copy to review.
Three years after they divorce Natasha ends up face to face with her husband over the counter at her florists. Natasha did not think she would see her ex=husband again but he hadn't told his family about the divorce and now with his father is ill and he needs Natasha to travel with him to the family home in France and while there in the sunshine pretend to be a happy couple. A hard task considering what this couple had been through and why they got divorced in the first place.
I loved this idea for a story and the cover is delightful, I love sunflower and stories set in France so I knew I would love this read. I was not disappointed the descriptions of France and the setting of the story was so believable you can really tell that Sophie has spent time in France and loved it. France is one of my love to go destinations and it is always such a joy to read a book set there. The characters are strong and you really get a feel for what they have been through, although it took me w while to warm to Luc but once you read the story from his point of view it was a lot easier to like him.
A brilliant summer read.
I'm pleased to share my review for the latest book by Sophie Claire today. Thank you to Hodder and Stoughton for a digital advanced review copy via NetGalley - my thoughts are my own and not influenced by the gift.
After reading and enjoying The Christmas Holiday in 2019, I'm pleased to say that A Forget-Me-Not Summer is a lovely read too. However before we look at the story, I want to say how lovely the cover of the book is - I hope our garden sunflowers will look so bright and cheerful this year.
The book follows the story of Natasha and Luc, who were married for a few weeks before divorcing after a tragic miscarriage, only to be reunited when Luc's dad is seriously ill in hospital. Luc and Natasha have two weeks pretending to still be married, to look back at why their marriage failed and how little they actually knew about each other. Through a family wedding into the mix, and let the story evolve.
In addition to the characters, the descriptions of French towns, markets and food, make for a gorgeous book to curl up with and escape the modern world. This is a book full of missed opportunities, miscommunication and most importantly, love.
