This book got me hooked in from the start, really enjoyable and great storyline. With a few chuckles thrown in for good measure!

Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. The characters were captivating both in their back stories and their present day stories and the storyline itself was one of those “I’ll just read one more chapter” novels.

Highly recommended.

Shari Low does it again, with a superb story, full of intertwined characters, with all the events taking place in 24 hours. I love the way she does this, and does it so well.

The characters are so real, I felt as if I knew them all personally. Agnetha is a really likeable character, and it was great to see a bit of a cameo appearance from some old favourites too!

We meet each character separately, and get to know them and their story, with a bit of a dual timeline into the past also. Then as the day moves on, all the strands of the story begin to come together.

I really enjoyed this book, it’s one to really captivate and entertain. A perfectly woven story, sprinkled with the author’s trademark humour and warmth, it’s escapism at it’s finest.

After two decades of looking after others, this is the day that Agnetha McMaster is reclaiming her life. It’s her turn, her time but will she have the courage to start again?

One Day in Summer is such a page turner because a lifetime of friendship, love & betrayal is recounted in just one day. It is certainly a birthday that Agnetha McMaster will never forget.

This book is definitely one of my favourite books of the year. It covers over 20 years of heartbreak, secrets and loss written with such fantastic characters that you love and love to hate.

Some really important issues are discussed like marital breakdowns, adoption and the devastation that losing a family member can bring but it’s written with such sensitivity, humour, depth of characterisation and the realisation that no matter what path our lives may take us on there is always the chance for forgiveness, love and personal growth.

This is the perfect summer read, bursting with storm clouds full of emotion and the hope for a brighter day.

.......‘One Day in Summer‘ is exactly that sort of story and I was happy I chose to read it. To be honest, the blurb didn’t seem like anything particularly unique. My decision to read this book was based on the cover. Just look at how bright and flowery the book cover is! We can all do with some bright and flowery at this time. And the strawberries, of course. If there is anything edible in a picture then that IS what I will see first.

But as I read the story I found that this time around, judging a book by it’s cover paid off. It is a story worth reading. And by that I do not mean that it is a story unlike any other. The uniqueness of this story lies in how it makes you feel. And the credit for that lies with author Shari Low and her ability to use her words to evoke emotions. Words that give you hope and words that bring out hopelessness too. Apprehensiveness, shock, exhaustion, love, nervousness, happiness, you feel all of these and more along with the characters through the author’s words. And above all, even in the heaviest parts of the book, the story holds on to warmth.

In the construction of a story, the words are not the only significant element. The gaps make the story stand out. How a chapter ends is responsible in colouring the reader’s impression of the story. The exact points where Shari Low chooses to leave off a chapter to move on to the next one is intriguing. The best example of it is the prologue......

......I recommend everyone to read ‘One Day in Summer‘ regardless of their genre preference. Simply because of the warmth and love in this book. The love for life and for yourself.

A tale that read a lot like a soap opera, and just like a soap opera, you can 'not watch/read' certain parts and then get to find out what happened when you next tune in. In this sense, the book felt very lengthy and drawn-out; you could easily read the first 10% then skip to the last 10% and be able to figure out exactly what happened. At the same time, if you want to savour the journey, you can, too, because it is that kind of book with beautiful writing and where every character with a different POV felt whole and not like the same voice speaking all through. Loved the humour displayed by Aggs' daughters throughout - brought quite a few chuckles if not laugh-out-loud moments. A good tale, especially if you like nitty-gritty details and also different timelines that merge to give a big reveal

I have read Shari Low’s books before and loved them and this book was no difference. There was the element of surprise in this book too. Also I am very glad that at the end you skip to a few months from the day to find out how it ended or you will be wondering what happened for a long time. Highly reccomend.

This book is set in the same universe as "One Day in December" and it's sequels, but apart from Val (who plays only a very minor role here) no other character make a reappearance.

So we have a whole set of new characters, but kind of the same problems as in the other books: relationship troubles, betrayal, regret, search for a father, looking for a new love, secrets from the past. And everything is told in the span of 24 hours (with some flashbacks to previous events).

But in spite of the similarities I didn't feel as if I have read it all before, since Shari Low depicts her characters always in new, unique ways it. Her ability to shape all those different figures and put life into them is Shari Low's biggest strength I would say. I really enjoyed my day-trip to Glasgow. The 'secret' at the end was no big surprise to the attentive reader, it was the logical consequence to the build-up before. And the ending was fairytaly-perfect.

This is a story that is definitely the sum of its parts. The characters make it what it is, for better or worse, and the end results is most DEFINITELY for the better. Let's take it person by person, leading character wise...

Agnetha...
...our formidable leading lady who loved life, loved love, and loved the chance to share those experiences with others. She had a free spirit and lived every day to her fullest, but with care and kindest remembered in her choices. All things were going her way, until one fateful day some 15+ years ago...when a change in circumstance started a snowball effect she could have never imagined.

Mitchell...
...married to Agnetha formerly, yet currently to her former best friend. Can't say I'm a fan of the cheating kind (and neither was she, hence the divorce), but as they say, you make your bed and then must sleep in it. Also, karma tends to bite and bite HARD...so yeah, I may be a bit vindictive, but I had a REALLY hard time feeling bad for him.

Hope...
...and innocent among the messes uncovered, but with such a strong spirit, and a great support system. Being an adopted child is not normally something one would envy, but the way her life turned out...at the very least until all the revelations start happening...even with the poor health, has been somewhat magical. It was wonderful to see adoptive families shown in such a heart warming light.

Celeste...
...a beauty queen she might be, but definitely a case for it being only skin deep. Let's just say that if the betrayal of her friend's marriage wasn't enough...THERE'S MORE. Oh yes, so much more.

Having a story take place from start to finish in the course of a day, even with multiple characters, can be a bit trying when read. I mean, you usually get one end of the spectrum (over detailed) or the other (too vague and broad), making it less than enjoyable...which is DEFINITELY NOT the case here! The chapters were labeled (THANK YOU!) to keep you on track with who's voice it was written in and what time (year). The character's were distinct, so even if one wasn't paying close enough attention, you could still easily hold the narrative thread. The way the story unfolded from past to present was absolutely mind-boggling, and yet felt genuine, making it so I really wanted to smack a few about the head in SEVERAL places.

To sum, a GREAT STORY filled with life, love, loss, and heart. It reminds us that it's never too late to discover our true selves, or our true hearts, and that forgiveness (in the right circumstances) can be next to godliness. So take a break in your summer days to explore this particular one and see just how carried away a heart can get.

This story entwines there people's lives
Agnetha is nearly 45 years old she has two grown up daughters and is due some me time.
There's Mitchell her ex husband who is married to Celeste who was Agnetha's best friend.
And Holly who is about to meet her biological father for the first time .
Each of the chapters are told from a different persons perspective and also switch back and forth in time to tell you what happened when Agnetha and Celeste was young.
And now Holly is entwined in this.
Thanks NetGalley

If you are looking for a book to read on the beach to keep you on your toes, pick this one up. You will enjoy it, I’m sure. It is something that for me is a perfect beach read that you can also suggest to your friends. Not only is the plot interesting, but each character is different. I’m really glad that I had a chance to read this book.

One day in summer, three lives are about to change forever. After two decades of looking after others, this is the day that Agnetha McMaster is reclaiming her life. It's her turn, her time. But will she have the courage to start again? Ten years ago, Mitchell McMaster divorced Agnetha and married her best friend, Celeste. Now he suspects his second wife is having an affair. This is the day he'll discover if karma has come back to bite him. Thanks to a DNA test, this is the day that Hope McTeer will finally meet her biological father. But will the reunion bring Hope the answers that she’s looking for?

This read is complete and utter enjoyment from start to finish. With a bit of emotion thrown in for good measure! It is one of those reads where you find yourself instantly hooked and instantly in love with the characters, I was completely enthralled by this and desperate to keep reading to find out what happened. Always the sign of a good read.

There is nothing particularly mind-blowing about the read, it is definitely not full of twists and turns but Low packs in the emotion behind every action and this is beautiful, funny sad and heart-warming. Just a really enjoyable read.

The characters absolutely make this read! As I have already said I instantly connected to them and I just love it when that happens. They are not all likeable but they do not need to all be likeable, there is a good range of personalities as I would expect from a group of people in real life. I did feel a connection to all of them and was invested in their lives and stories and discovering what Low had in store for them.

I adored how this was written as well; Low flits between the present day and flashbacks to Agnetha and Celeste's earlier friendship and we begin to see how past events have shaped the rest of their lives.

Everything about 'One Time In Summer' was just absolute perfection. This is the ultimate Summer read to lose yourself in. I highly recommend this beautiful read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an advance copy.

No wonder this book is described as an emotional rollercoaster that keeps you guessing – it really is!

Everything happens on one day . . . . the day that Agnetha McMaster has her forty-fifth birthday. Her twin daughters have arranged two secret parties for her but they are the least of the surprises in store for her and her friends past and present!

This story is told from multiple points of view and the different threads are interwoven with events from the past before being skilfully entwined to keep you guessing and with some shocking surprises en route to the evening party where all the disparate parts come together. It is a story of infidelity, betrayal, friendships that go wrong, shocking revelations and lasting love.

It is a heartwarming exploration of relationships which have changed over time, secrets that have been kept and new possibilities. It has love, jealousy, dreams and aspirations, tragedy as well as siblings supporting each other in a delightful read that shows how someone’s lies and deception can have far reaching consequences but that karma really can bite back when you least expect it. I hadn’t read anything by this author before but I’ll certainly endeavour to read more from her in future!

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest review after choosing to read it and not wanting to put it down until I’d finished it!

Written with all the honesty and sensitivity for which she is known for, One Day in Summer is an emotional, enthralling and immensely enjoyable read by the fabulous Shari Low.

After two decades spent putting everyone else first and herself last, the time has come for Agnetha McMaster to put herself in pole position for the first time in a very long while. Agnetha plans to reclaim her life, make her own rules and have some fun for a change. But having spent nearly twenty years catering to the whims and needs of everyone else, is she ready to stop hiding from the world and take her first tentative steps into the unknown? Will Agnetha find the courage to start over? Or will she retreat back into the shadows and spend the rest of her life hiding in her comfort zone?

Agnetha’s former husband Mitchell had been unable to resist from indulging in an affair with his wife’s best friend, Celeste. Mitchell had had no qualms about walking out on his marriage to make a new life for himself with his mistress. However, things have changed between him and Celeste in the last couple of years. Mitchell suspects that Celeste is cheating on him and he is determined to find out whether his suspicions are in fact correct. Is Karma about to bite Mitchell where it hurts after all these years? Or are all of his suspicions unfounded?

Hope McTeer has spent years wanting to find out who her biological father really was and now thanks to a DNA test, it looks like her wishes are about to come true. But will this reunion give Hope everything which she has always dreamed about? Or is she about to learn that there is a world of difference between reality and fantasy?
In one day, the lives of these three people are about to unravel. One day is going to change everything for all of them, but will they end up getting everything they have always wanted? Or are they just setting themselves up for disappointment?

Shari Low is at her addictive best with One Day in Summer. Believable, realistic and so brilliantly written you will be drawn into the story from the very first page, One Day in Summer is a fantastic tale about friendship, family, loyalty and betrayal we can all relate to. Although written with a light touch, Shari Low does not shy away from tackling serious and hard-hitting issues and, as always, writes with great empathy and compassion about the joys and frustration of everyday life.

A top notch tale sure to appeal to Marian Keyes fans, One Day in Summer is another winner by Shari Low.
