An interesting and dark crime novel that tells a dark and very twisted story.
The mood and overall tone are fantastic and love the characters
A Price to Pay is the latest book in the DCI Warren Jones series by Paul Gitsham and it is another rollercoaster of a read where the action never stops.
A mysterious death in a massage parlour is the starting point for a story that covers a number of current issues and kept this reader entertained throughout.
Overall an excellent addition to the series and a book that is definitely recommended
This is the sixth book in the in the DCI Warren series. I did not have any trouble without reading the others in the series.
It is a police procedural which is fast moving and nicely written. Warren and his team work well together. They work to solve the crime. Warren has a bit of personal trouble which rounds out the book.
I plan to go back and read a few more in the series because I enjoyed this one. Thank you, Net Galley, for an advanced copy for an honest review.
Another emotionally gruelling instalment in this well established series. Warren' s team while highly effective don't have much luck!
The book handles harrowing, contemporary issues really well, is fast paced and engaging.
Once again Paul Gitsham has done! I throughly enjoy his books and this book was no different! This was a great story from start to finish!
I discovered this series not long ago and after reading the first book I read all the others and I loved them all.
This one was no exception as it kept me hooked till the last page and it's gripping and entertaining.
I love the characters, Warren is a strong and damaged characters and you cannot help feeling for him.
The cast of characters is well thought and I like how well they work together and what a great team they are.
The plot is complex, full of red herring and twists, and the solid mystery kept me guessing till the last surprise.
I loved how the empathy of the author toward the victims and he did a great job in handling the issues present in the book.
it's a good mystery but it's also full of emotional moments and you cannot help rooting for the characters.
I can't wait for the next instalment.
An excellent read that I strongly recommend.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
4 stars
DCI Warren Jones has much on his plate in this the latest novel from Paul Gitsham.
Called to the stabbing death of a young man at a massage parlor, Warren and his team are dismayed to learn that the victim is none other than Stevie Cullen.
The Cullen family have been involved in somewhat minor offenses for several years now, such as fraud, robbery, burglary and so on. When going to notify the family of his death, they get a hostile welcome. Stevie's room is cleaned of any possible evidence. There is no information forthcoming here.
They begin to interview the employees of the massage parlor, Stevie's friends at the local and appeal for information through the media.
The investigation takes them on a convoluted path down lies, mistrust, and more murders. Things appear to be spiraling out of control. Warren is having home issues as well that are distracting him from his police tasks, but he insists on staying with the search for the killer.
This book is as well written and plotted as are all of Mr. Gitsham's novels. I truly enjoyed reading iit and felt like I was visiting old friends. I like Warren's team and how they get along. It upsets me to read a police procedural where there is dissention in the ranks. They suffer triumphs and tragedies in this book in the series. The reader is in for some surprises. I look forward to reading the next book to come out.
I want to thank NetGalley and HQ Digital for forwarding to me a copy of this very good book for me to read, enjoy and review.
I am grateful to net galley.com and H.Q. Digital for an advance review copy of this book which has in no way influenced the review provided. This was my first encounter with DCI Warren Jones but it isn't the first book of the series and is in fact the sixth instalment.
What I found was a main character who was likeable, who was dedicated to his job and like all police procedurals somewhat neglectful to his family when the job was on. The plot centres on the murder of the son of a local "notorious" family in the seemingly unlikely setting of a massage parlour.
Who is in the frame though? Is it one of the ladies who worked there? Is is the mystery man who there doesn't seem to be any trace of or what is the real story? The book follows a familiar pattern of suspect, counter suspect all falling finally into place for the real suspect to emerge.
I found this book enjoyable and it has caused me to go and look at the back catalogue of DCI Jones to try and fill in some of the things that I didn't understand in this book to try and see the backstory. The only downside for me was that it felt a big long, now dont get me wrong I read it in about five and a half hours so it isn't war and peace. It just felt to me that there were some scenes that didn't add much to the overall narrative but then it may be setting the stage for books that come later.
Overall an enjoyable read that I dont think you will be disappointed in.
DCI Warren Jones has done it again brilliant as always. Definetely a series worth reading. Didnt think I would like it at the beginning but 6 books later
