This was an amazing book! I loved it; it was fun, entertaining, and exactly what I needed to read at this time.
A typical book of cartoons about Life With a Cat, but a very accomplished one all the same. Here is the young cat scared to death by the fact its toy does not move, here is the cat getting in the way of using the laptop, here is, er, some of its bodily motions and ejecta. This is a quick read, with most of the contents two pages (a couple are longer), and while there is a definite sense of deju vu, the accomplished style here is not always found in similar books, and neither actually is the hit rate of recognisable yet comical episodes. So this is standard, but above standard in quality, at the same time.
This was my first introduction to the eponymous cat Frankie, but Rachel Dukes has been creating these playful, funny and relatable cartoons for a number of years. I really enjoyed Dukes' illustration style and all the tiny details and design choices that make the characters spring to life. Frankie's big personality comes shining off the page - whether begging for food at the dinner table, wanting to get her nose into everything or avoiding bath time - and really made me smile.
A precious account of life with a kitty, told in charming illustrations that make you go “awww” on every other page.
Thanks to NetGalley and Oni Press for providing an advanced copy of this comic collection in exchange for an honest review.
Frankie Comics is a loving and likely autobiographical tale of artist couple, Rachel and Mike finding a sweet blue-point Siamese named Frankie. The illustrations are adorable and a lot of Frankie's mannerisms reminds me of my Siamese, Misty. It really hit a nostalgia button for me.
Not only do you get to experience the first few months after the couple found Frankie, but you also get to see how having a furry friend can shape your life. I really enjoyed all of Frankie's antics, most cat owners will see their own cats reflected in Frankie from begging for food to waking you up in the morning, usually asking for food.
What I really loved about the comic is that it doesn't only tell a story, but at the end there is a section about owning a cat and resources for people to adopt along with what to expect when you do adopt a cat. If you aren't looking to adopt it also lists ways that you can help through volunteering or donations!
This is perfect for any cat lover. It really warmed my heart and put a smile on my face.
If you are have a cat or enjoy cats, you must get this book! The cartoons are so sweet and cat folks will recognize just how true the human/cat interactions are. I smiled over and over again as I made my way through this book; I don't think that there is a higher recommendation than that.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.
This is a fun cat comic book for those who love cats. It's pretty similar to another that I read recently and it didn't do a whole lot for me even though I do love our family cats and appreciate cat humor. Cute comics, sweet story line, predictable cat stuff (peeing on things, not wanting a bath, being worth it, etc.). I requested an ARC of this book so my 8 year-old daughter could read it and weigh in too since she likes those types, but the format wouldn't let me put it on my kindle for her so I can't share her reaction. I suspect that she would have enjoyed it.
Thanks Net Galley for a digital ARC for review purposes.
This was the sweetest thing ever! I had seen some of Rachel Duke’s comics on Instagram, but getting to read a collection of them and to see the story of welcoming a cat at home like this just warmed my heart!
This is perfect for cat lovers and people who are about to adopt! The few pages at the end with tips are a gold mine!
This is cute. Very cute, and very cat like. Not a surprise, just an observation. All the cat shredding, all the cat barfing, all the cat peeing that cats do, all included. Lovers of cats will love this book. People who don't love cats will probably not get it.
Do I recommend it? Sure, as a cat lover. Most others would find it a bit repetitive. Cats, like kids, are only cute to their owners.
Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review
Very cute comic that accurately depicts life with a cat. I highly enjoyed it! This is a quick, light read that will be a delight for cat lover’s everywhere.
With thanks to Netgalley and Oni Press
Frankie comics is a super cute comic about owing a cat. the art is lovely and it spot on about what is it like owning or being owned by a cat.
I will be checking out Rachel Dukes web site.
I downloaded this comic because I like cats and the picture on the front was so adorable but after the first comic, I found out quickly that this comic only had the illustrations going for it. The actual comics were very boring in my opinion.
Frankie Comics is a very cute heart warming comic about a wife, her husband and a kitten. We follow their journey with laughs and love. I do not read many comics, but this one is a must read for cat lovers. It contains cute drawings and real life cat lover humor. Look forward to reading more by this author, Rachel Dukes.
Oh my God this book is the absolute most adorable thing I've ever read - it's just a series of heartwarming comics about the antics of a cat named Frankie and her two humans. It's so cute and wholesome and wonderful - I literally stopped everything I was doing and tore through the whole thing in a matter of minutes. If you (like me) love cats, or have ever had a cat, or are a human being with a soul who likes cuteness, then you will love Frankie Comics.
BRB gonna run home and cuddle both of my cats.
As a 'Cat Mum' I loved this! A few times I had to pull my partner across and read a certain page that related to our cat, Snowy. A few pages made me laugh out loud too, which really made me want to continue reading and see what antics Frankie got into. The artwork for this graphic novel was very in keeping with certain comics I persoanlly read and I found the whole comic book to be very inspired by the Garfield comics. I would love to read more of Frankie's adventures and hope that these comics continue.
I love this comic book perrrrfect for cat owners or the cats that own them. It is funny and cute. In the comics so broken up in to sections that could be read individually or all together.
For anyone who has a cat or wants one, this hits close to home. It shows how cute a cat can be but also what a troublemaker too.
