Sadly this book just was not for me. This sat on my kindle for quite some time - twice I have attempted to read and twice I did not finish.
Thankyou for the opportunity but I will not be providing feedback on any commercial sites for this book.
This novel was archived before I could download it..A disappointment as I have enjoyed and read many of the authors books before.
Die alone by Simon Kernick.
Alastair Sheridan has it all. Wealth, good looks, a beautiful wife and children and, in the chaotic world of British politics, a real chance of becoming Prime Minister. But Alastair also has a secret. He's a serial killer with a taste for young women.
A great read with good characters. Had me gripped. 4*.
A fabulous book which I could not put down. Really easy to read, gripping and wonderfully told story that I would recommend to others!!
Thank you for this but I didn't realise it was the end of a series so I was slightly confused.
Well written though and I now need to start from the beginning!
I’m a great fan of Simon Kernick and this novel certainly didn’t disappoint.
This is the third novel in the Bone Fields series featuring both Ray Mason and Tina Boyd (from her own series) I’d not read the others before this and the book could quite easily be a stand alone. There’s enough background to know what’s happened previously but it doesn’t distract from the story within this one.
This is a fast paced crime thriller with a bit of everything featured for good measure; a prison escape, double crossing, corrupt politicians, murder and much more. Some of the themes may cause distress to some people, but I found that it added to the story to show how perverted and cruel some of the character were.
A great novel, which makes me want to go back and read the others.
Die Alone
By Simon Kernick
4 stars
A gripping tale, full of punch.
Kernick has written an adventure plot full of twists and turns. Action fills the pages in this political murder mystery.
Alastair Sheridan has it all, including the chance of becoming the next British Prime Minister. But has a secret. He’s a serial killer with a taste for young women.
Disgraced detective Ray Mason is on the chase, while being chased himself by the police. As the walls close in on Mason, he has few opportunities to plot his way out and save the day.

Kernick’s books are like Bond movies — non-stop action and excitement — but with murder rather than spying as the central theme. Die Alone (the last of a trilogy but can very well be read as a standalone) starts with a prison riot and doesn’t let up from there.
If you’re looking for distraction, this’ll do the job. From the psycho politician, to ex-cops Ray and Tina, to Ray’s ‘trusted’ underworld contacts, nobody is playing by the rules. There are villains at every turn and plenty of nastiness.
Is it well written? Let’s just say it’s as well written as it needs to be to get the story told. The characters are cardboard cut-outs. There’s no ‘show’, just ‘tell’.* This happens then this happens then this. It’s so packed with action that you can’t get bored, but don’t expect to really give a damn what happens to anyone.
Fast-paced thriller
Ray Mason is ex-army and ex-detective, and he is languishing c/o Her Majesty in prison. Jail is not the best place to be for an ex-copper, so he’s housed in the Vulnerable Prisoners’ section where he feels safe...............until there’s a riot and he’s the target.
Mason is in prison convicted of murder. The people he disposed of were killers themselves, and he was rescuing a very close friend; a fellow officer, but despite that, he was found guilty and sent down. Their investigations into a raft of gruesome murders of young women had identified a seemingly untouchable politician as a prime suspect. Unfortunately, the man in question is wealthy, charismatic and powerful and in line to take the top job in the country. Mason has vowed to bring him to justice.
This thriller is a riot from start to finish. The pace is hectic and doesn’t let up. Mason manages to extricate himself from a considerable number of seemingly impossible positions with the help of contacts in the criminal fraternity. He seems to know just the right people for any given situation.
The characters are well developed if not a little archetypal. The politician is an evil genius, our hero is a man whose moral convictions trump any legal concerns, and even the female assassin is the epitome of a cold-blooded killer.
My only criticism is that it’s a totally unbelievable plot. However, considering that the job of decent fiction is to transport the reader into realms where the impossible becomes possible, it’s a very decent read and well worth picking up.

5/10
I’ve only read one Simon Kernick novel previously so when I was approved of this I didn’t realise it was the end of a series, albeit a loose series as are often the case in this type of book, so I was on the back foot from the off. The author fills in all the blanks for you though but to the extent that if I had read previous novels I would have been fed up of the recaps. I even got fed up of them, over half the novel felt like a cast back to what had happened previously in big chunks rather than little breadcrumbs dropped throughout.
There were a number of cliches here too; the gorgeous femme fatale assassin with no heart, the cop close to retirement who … well I guess you know the score there, people knowing exactly where and when to show up just in the nick of time. You name it, it’s here. The writing style was ok and it was a very quick read but it never gripped me making me not want to put it down.
Too many cliches and flashbacks made my decision to lower my rating, it was a tough call between 2 or 3 stars but those reasons lowered it in the end. I wouldn’t be in a big rush to pick up more by the author unless I wanted a quick pallet cleanser.
Requested and downloaded this again without realising I'd read it.
It's either the excitement of seeing Simon Kernick on the list or old age setting in.
It's an excellent novel by the way, his always are.
If you are looking for an ingenious, gripping, edge-of-your-seat thriller then look no further Die Alone is incredible...⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Just don't make the same mistake I did picking it up before bed thinking you might be able to put it down and go to sleep, a truly unputdownable read - do make sure you hold on for the ride!⠀⠀
⠀⠀
I whole-heartedly recommend any and all @simon_kernick but I think this is his best yet!!
A huge thanks to Random House UK & Netgalley for gifting me a copy in return for an open & honest review. ⠀⠀

An enjoyable, fast paced action adventure that’s well written and engaging.
This is the third book in a series, but, also can be read as a stand alone.
Ray is a renegade cop, in prison at the start of the story and with a bounty on his head. Tina Boyd is his one time partner who is now trying to make a life for herself without Ray. Then, there’s a prison riot, kidnapping, car chases, shootings and much more.
It’s an easy read and I enjoyed the splitting of the book into parts. Overall, for those liking a criminal vs cops adventure this is pure escapism.
Thanks the NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to preview.
An excellent read, Simon Kernick never disappoints. This is fast paced, a true thriller. I like the people Ray an Tina, they are believable characters.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for letting me read this book in exchange for a review.
Kernick opens the story in a way that draws you in from the start. It's tense and thrilling and the pace never drops.
There are often points when you are sure the character, particularly Tina Boys, will be rescued, but it doesn't detract from the tension, you still read on in excitement
Fast paced thriller.
This was the third and final book in a series of three Ray Mason and Tina Boyd action thrillers. I hadn’t read the others but that didn’t matter as history that is relevant is easily and briefly dealt with by the author so I didn’t feel I had missed out.
It was certainly all action and a quick but exciting read. Not my usual genre but I can imagine if an action thriller is your book of choice you will not be disappointed. I already know of a couple.of my fellow book group members who I will be happy to recommend it to.
Thank you to NetGalley for my arc of this book.
As a massive fan of Simon Kernick for a few years now, after my friend gifted me one of his books and I was hooked, I was very excited to get my hands on a copy of this and it did not disappoint!
I love Simon's books as they are fast paced, edge of your seat thrillers and this one was no exception!
I like Tina and Ray and their relationship they have, many moments when I wasnt sure what was going to happen to either of them (wont say anything else because of spoilers!)
I dont like the gory bits (bit of a baby when it comes to those!) but this book kept me hooked and I had to keep reading to find out what happens to the evils in it!
Another fab book from Simon, cant wait for the next one!
Great writing, great plot and another Simon Kernick success. The storyline was totally believable in this day and age when corruption seems to be the norm. I could not put this book down and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who loves a fast paced thriller.
My thanks to Simon Kernick, Random House and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to give my unbiased opinion.
I've been watching out for this title after burning through the earlier two books in the series over a weekend on holiday. Book three does not disappoint and the action moves at a cracking pace. A suitable frenetic end to this series but hopefully we'll see the main characters again??
Wow this book was amazing. I have read all of this authors other books and loved them all. This one was no exception it kept me hooked from start to finish and I read it in a couple of sittings. It can be read as a standalone but to get the most enjoyment from it you should really read them all in order. What a fantastic book this was and I highly recommend it.
