Ellie is her mother's favourite daughter and Abby the eldest could never compete for her mothers affection.
Now adults their lives are completely different and Abby wants to build the rift between them so she invites Ellie to spend the summer with her and her new husband in their villa on the Italian island of Elba.
What Abby wasn't counting on was their mother Susanna arriving early and spoiling their precious time alone together.
Susanna has her own agenda for turning up early. She has a deep dark secret that Abby knows about and she can mot let Abby tell Ellie.
This book captures sibling rivalry and favourite child perfectly. Abby and Ellie have never been close. Abby is a high achiever, has a very successful job and earns a healthy salary. However she works all the hours available and has no real social life. Ellie meanwhile is a trainee teaching assistant, she spent most of her childhood missing school due to illness and has large debts. She is also their mother, Susannah’s favourite.
Now in their thirties, Abby is married and living in Italy. She’s invited her sister and mother to stay but us quickly realising this was a mistake. Both vying for Susannah’s attention, the tensions of the past soon read their head producing schooling results.
This book is well written and gathers pace nicely. It was enjoyable and I found it hard to put down. Thank you to NetGalley, Pam Macmillan and the author for the chance to review.
This book had such an intriguing story, I just had to keep reading to know the truth, even if I did find it quite predictable in some parts.
Overall, this was a quick, fun read that I enjoyed.
Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this E-book to review via Netgalley.
This book is spectacular - the author does an excellent job of keeping you guessing who is telling the truth throughout and the plot flows well. I found the characters to be relatable and the twists were executed well and with good timing,
Oh dear, this was a real disappointment.
The story itself was quite intriguing but its resolution was just too ridiculous. Simplistic and unrealistic dialogue combined with unbelievable characters made for a very easy but unfulfilling read. As an example (SPOILER alert), in the epilogue Abby explains why she splashed out on new "quality" cushions for her sunbeds ..."I thought I'd celebrate. Seeing as the Spanish justice system decided it wasn't in the public interest to prosecute me." Really? I suppose that meant that the author didn't need to write more about the Spanish justice system but it is hardly a convincing line of dialogue.
I hate to be critical and I suppose that perhaps I am not the target audience for the author's work, but this book really did not live up to its publicity.
Nonetheless thanks to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for the ARC.
4.5 stars
I got into this straight away and once I started I couldn't put it down. I loved the setting of Italy and really felt it added a lot to the story and worked well.
I found the character of Ellie to be a bit naive and young for her age however I think that was the point! The relationship between the sisters felt real and the jealousy was well conveyed.
I can really see this working well as a TV show.
A thrilling read!
Thanks to Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for the ARC.
I loved everything about this book. The storyline was gripping from the start, the characters relatable and compelling throughout. With twists and turns I didnt see coming. An absolute must read.
Really good read. Would recommend to friends and family. I could sympathise with characters (important for any fiction novel!) and looked forward to picking it up and reading the next few chapters! Interesting plot line and a good ending. Will look out for more novels by the author. Thank you.
Sisters
Great start, you’re thrown into the thick of the story and the family relations it contains. Meet Abby and Ellie although these two are sisters they have nothing in common and aren’t close. A strained relationship is made only through email but even the emails are strained. Then out of the blue Ellie is invited out to Abbys house in Italy....
There’s a real sense of calm before the storm with Sisters. You can feel the tension you have to wait a little longer....and then it explodes! Crazy! I loved the plot and I loved the writing style.
Poor Ellie, it’s hard to know who to believe about the past. Who’s lying - her mum or sister? Who wants the best for her? I was so on edge reading this, I needed to know everything and I needed to know it now! I love how the relationship between the sisters changed, this story is written perfectly catching all the highs and lows and leaving you wanting more.
The ending is rushed / terrible but I loved the rest of the story. 4/5
I always enjoy thrillers about sisters, I think there's so much scope for a dynamic relationship there. This is a great summer read, twisty and vivid.
Sisters is about 2 sisters that aren’t close, that had a difficult childhood in different ways because of their mother, and end up on the run together. It is a really strong story and well written as it goes between the past and the present. There is suspense to find out what happened to Ellie however the ending didn’t fully explain what happened or give reason for it which is frustrating. It seemed to end fairly abruptly rather than revealing the full truth. I found it very enjoyable to read however and would certainly recommend this book to others as well as look for other reads by this author.
‘The Temp’ ‘The Girlfriend’ ‘The Daughter’.....if you have read the authors 3 previous books you will have a good idea of what to expect from ‘Sisters’, and it doesn’t disappoint
Its tricky not to give anything away suffice to say they are 2 Sisters, leading very different lives with polar personalities and ‘just about get along’, this suits the Mum very well, she fuels it, until something happens and the Mum no longer controls the situation and what happens next is a full on, fast and furious adventure where lies, more lies and deceit lead to a wonderful showdown
Superb in its tense delivery and yep am gonna say it twists and turns in every chapter coupled with characters you will constantly change your mind about and you have 1 exciting read, loved it

Sisters by Michelle Frances is a quick, fun summer read. It is twisty and fairly unpredictable makin*. It a page turner in my book. The ending was shocking and crazy!
Abby and Ellie are sisters than have never really bonded. Ellie was clearly her mother’s favourite and Abby is resentful of that fact. But things are looking up when newly married Abby invited Ellie to holiday with her at her gorgeous villa in Italy. Maybe they can finally be friends. But their mother arrives, throwing a spammer in the works. That I started when the drama really begins.
I am not going to say anymore as it will give the story away. It is an easy to read psychological thriller.
Thanks to Pan Macmillan and Netgalley for my advanced copy of this book to read.
Sisters tells the stories of Abby and Ellie, two sisters who couldn't be more different from each other. They haven't really spoken for years but when perfect Abby invites resentful Ellie to her Italian villa, they both think it's the perfect chance to reconnect. But when their mother turns up, things start to unravel....
The book is set in Europe which was ideal, especially with the current pandemic situation. Michelle Frances is a great narrator and her description of the many different places is just dreamy.
The story goes back and forth in the past, as there is a mystery revolving around Ellie's childhood and the clues are scattered in the form of flashbacks.
I also really liked the mystery and the unreliable narrators... I really didn't know who to believe. Was Ellie making things up to get all the attention? How on earth could Abby afford to retired so young? Why is their mother so fixated with not letting them bond?
This was a fun, fast read which I very much enjoyed reading.
Disclosure: I'd like to thank the publisher for my advanced reader copy. This is my honest review.

Sisters Ellie and Abby are like chalk and cheese and have never been close. Growing up Ellie was often poorly and was quite clearly her mother’s favourite.
Now they are adults Ellie has gone to visit Abby who has retired at the age of 36 and married an Italian policeman. The same jealousies are there as Ellie a teaching assistant struggles with her finances whilst her sister has money, but is very frugal with it. They are hoping that their time together will make them closer, but when their mother arrives early their alone time is soon disrupted!!
The story is told in the present time and goes back to 1994, where we get a sneaky look into the girls childhood and see how it shaped them into the adults they are now.
This is such a great book. You really don’t know where the story is heading and the twists along the way will keep you hooked. A childhood lie is revealed but who can be trusted?
A must read book. This is an author to look out for.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for a review.
Thank you Netgalley for providing me with this ARC.
Two sisters but two different upbringings both with a story to tell.
Throughout the story you are often wondering who to believe - Abby, Ellie or their mother Susannah? It is a rollercoaster of a read with many unexpected revelations as you progress.
If you like a good page turning thriller, I highly recommending putting this one on your list to read!
Having read Michelle Frances previous novels I was excited to read this one, although I wasn’t a fan of her last novel, this one did not let me down, by far her best one (in my opinion)
A good light holiday read is how I would best describe this. A lifetime of sibling rivalry and jealousies between sisters where one who is obviously the mother's favourite. Throw them all into a seemingly perfect picturesque Mediterranean setting and tensions bubble over. There are enough twists and turns in the story to keep the reader's interest and the ending is not quite what you are expecting.
This one was a 3.5 from me.
An enjoyable story with a unique plot, an undecidable villain and a fair few thrills and twists. I enjoyed this one and I liked the main characters and their back story. I also couldn’t make my mind up who was to blame.
This is a really well written book with so many twists and turns. For most of the time I wasn’t quite sure who to believe or what to think...that is the sign of a good thriller!
Sisters is a quick and easy read set against a stunning backdrop. The story follows two sisters who haven’t always seen eye to eye. Abby is successful and in control of her life and Ellie is more carefree and has always struggled academically because of a debilitating childhood illness. When Ellie visits her sister in her home on an idyllic Italian island, family secrets start to unravel and the sisters end up on the run through France and Italy.
The book was a fairly enjoyable read and I think people will like it, for me there wasn’t much tension and the twists and turns were quite gentle. The setting was my favourite part - vividly described and stunning.
Thank you to the author and publisher for the chance to read this book early.
