I usually like a sports biography but couldn't get into this one. It's mainly rugby players forcing other rugby players to drink and felt a bit samey and like reading about a student's union. Maybe it gets better but for now on my abandoned books list.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Might be more of a 3.5. Some funny stories and some eye opening stories about how keyboard warriors can make you feel.
Rugby and/or sports fans will love this book. I quite enjoyed the change of genre
Hilarious read.
Well written and easy to read. Enjoyable even if your not a massive rugby fan. At times it’s a bit risqué in narrative but I loved the down to earth, no BS charm. Very very funny!
Interesting to read about how he was looking for ways to improve his game. And having no shame in speaking to a psychologist in a world that would see that as “weak”.
I thought the stories of the drinking culture in rugby and lads lifestyle went on too long at the start. I was expecting more rugby talk and insights. I would be interested to read more about his rugby career and less about the sex and alcohol side of things.
If you're a fan of rugby then this is the book for you! It has both humour and insight which is a winning combination in this sports book written by rugby legend James Haskell.
Hilarious! If you love Hask, you will love this book! Lots of stories and laughs, perfect for any rugby fan!
Not one of my usual reads as I'm not a massive sports fan, but I do enjoy an autobiography. Although I couldn't relate to the sporting side of it, I enjoyed the read and found it quite interesting.
Some rugby autobiographies I have read have been very enjoyable to read... sadly this one was more of a meh book. A couple of the chapters were very interesting to read (which is why it gets 3* rather than the 2 it really should get), the rest seemed more to be of how to get pissed/act the goat. Sadly not one I'd recommend to be read.
I should start by saying that I’m not actually a fan of rugby and don’t fully understand the sport, so not everyone should be put off by my low rating but for me there were a lot sport talk and names mentioned that I don’t really know, there were some funny and interesting stories in there but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to keep me hooked.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an advanced digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A surprisingly good read.
After recently reading a very poor Auto Biography from a Rock Legend, I think my expectations weren’t great going into this book. Thankfully James Haskell delivered more than expected. James is frank and honest through the book and covers all aspects of his Rugby career and how the sport has shaped his life and experiences.
The book is a great blend of humour and the more serious aspects of the sport. James has struck a great balance in a free-flowing biography that provides an insight into the life of a Rugby Legend (yes, I’m talking about that wflanker James Haskell) as well as shedding a new light on English rugby (not being English myself).
Thanks NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for a Review Copy
I literally can’t love this enough!! I think it will appeal most to actual rugby fans but it would still be a great read for anyone. Haskell is witty and entertaining throughout and it’s not just entertaining stories but this book also provides explanation of some of the management of him which you would never normally see. Absolutely amazing. I couldn’t put it down and finished in all of three days. A must read and best one of the year for me!!
