I received a e-book copy of this book so my review is based on imagining it as a hardback board book.
This colourful unique board book would be a great gift for any new parents, building their baby’s library. With bright cartoon pictures, this will hold the attention span of very young children for short periods. It is similar to other first word books, but I really liked that it did a different selection from the usual words you see (“apple”, “ball”, “duck” etc.). It does have some quite abstract concepts like “peace” and “sorry”, which are quite hard to explain to very young readers, so that was refreshing. In particular the last page has “bye” with the word translated into other languages, which was a lovely touch. Would recommend as a lovely addition to baby shower gifts.
You're never too young to practice kindness, so I love that this board book introduces concepts like sharing and giving. Simple, colorful illustrations complement the text, and the opening and closing spreads include words in other languages, too. I'd hoped that this multi-lingual approach would be more integrated throughout the book, and I think there's a missed opportunity that it's not. (After all, the adult reading it can always stick to English if they choose.) Still, I think this board book aligns really well with the current interest in social emotional learning.
Baby’s First Kind Words is a gorgeous baby book containing 19 kind words e.g please, share and give, with matching illustrations. The bold, diverse and vibrant illustrations perfectly match the beautiful positive message this book sends. It will delight babies (1 and under) and adults alike. I will definitely be purchasing it as a baby present.
Baby's First Kind Words by Hsinping Pan is an illustrated book filled with 19 different kind words. The book includes words such as please, thanks, help, smile, share, and love. Each page has one word written in large letters across the page with a corresponding image. The illustrations are pretty simple, but they represent the words well. One of my favorite things about this book is that "Hi," and "Bye-Bye!" have the Spanish, Swahili, and Mandarin words for them. This makes the book a great introduction to different languages for a baby.
So, would I buy Baby's First Kind Words for my family? Yes and no. Although I think this is a great book for babies, my son is 15 months old right now. I think this book is a little too old for him because he enjoys reading stories, where this book just has one word per page. However, when I have another baby, I would consider buying this book for them because I think it's a great book to have, and I know it would be well-loved for at least two years, if not longer. Essentially, I think this is a great book to buy for a baby who is 8 months or younger because it would be used for quite some time. However, if a child is any older, this probably would not be read as much as other books they have because it isn't an actual story. Although, the book does start with "Welcome," and "Hi," and end with "Bye-Bye!" Anyways, Baby's First Kind Words would be a great addition to any baby shower gift.
A cute colourful Baby's first kind words book. Full of colourful illustrations and kind words. I think this book is a good talking guide for preschoolers, you could ask them whats happening in the picture and if they could think of a word to describe it. Thank you for the opportunity to review this book.
This book is so brightly, inclusively and appealingly illustrated. It includes a number of words that reflect values, including those like listen, give, help, care and play. The concepts may be a bit abstract for the book's intended audience but they are wonderful words to grow into.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title in exchange for an honest review.
I was able to read Baby's first kind words by Hsinping Pan for free from Netgalley for providing me with an advanced ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Being a first time mom this book was a great read with baby. The illustration were bright and helps babies focus their eyes on the pages. The words are exactly what babies say. The best part was the first and last pages where the words Hi and Bye are written in three more languages: English, Spanish, Swahili and Mandarin.
Baby's First Kind Words is exactly what it sounds like. This board book collects words related to kindness that all children should learn and know. The colorful illustrations will bring a smile to your face.
A sweet book for babies and toddlers. The illustrations are adorable and this book encourages children to be kind to others.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC.
It’s never too young to learn kindness. This vivid board book for baby features the words we all need to live by everyday. There is great diversity in the little ones who are presenting the words on each page. I think baby will be engaged by the vivid colors and appealing faces of the characters beautifully illustrated by Hsinping Pan
Illustrations are bright and colourful. Each page has a kind word. The first and last pages has hi and bye written in three more languages.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the eARC.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. Baby's First Kind Words: A Board Book by Hsinping Pan is a cute, bright board book with bold illustrations about being kind. The book is a great way to introduce concepts for emotional intelligence/literacy to young children. The book is a great companion to one of Pan's previous books, Be Kind: You Can Make the World a Happier Place! by Naomi Shulman, which she illustrated. The illustrations are adorable and would make good prints by themselves for a child's room, although it's not very kind to tear books apart!
This is a very simple board book for baby. It contains a number of kind words like please and share. I didn't like the illustrations, too abstract to represent the word they represented for a baby. Compared to other books they didn't have the brightness or simplicity needed. An okay book but better out there. Three stars from me.
This was a beautiful brightly colored book that would be perfect for small children. The words are simple, but could open up larger conversations about more complex topics.
The illustrations in Baby's First Kind Words were really bright and sweet. I think babies will love these images and unique color-palate. I do wish the different language words were included on every page instead of just the first and last one. I think that is a fun/different approach that would make this book stand out more.
This book is wonderful for little ones. The bright illustrations help to focus the young eyes of babies and are beautiful. The words selected are exactly what the title of the book states, kind. This would be an excellent addition to a baby's first book shelf.
This is a beautiful, bright book full of lovely calm and happy words that are perfect for sharing with little ones and would be a great addition to any nursery.
Adorable book and colorful and unique art. My one year old loved this! Sweet and simple as board books should be.
Thanks for the opportunity to review this! My son and I loved it!
This was such a great book. The pictures were adorable, and I was so excited to find a children's book that features a diverse group of people. The pictures were bright and eye catching. And I love that the words hello and goodbye were featured in several different languages!
Absolutely adorable! Lovely concept and beautiful, creative, colourful illustrations. I would be happy to purchase this for my baby when it's released.
