Clear pictures and good directions make learning how to tapestry weave simple. I really liked the half Damascus knot method for finishing off the weaving.
This is a great reference book to have for anyone looking to dip a toe into the world of tapestry weaving!
This book is fantastic for beginners (like me). It goes into absolutely everything that you'd need to tapestry weave and it does so in a great amount of detail. Pictures are used frequently which is great because I do tend to find that information heavy books can quickly become overwhelming if they are just walls of text.
While I haven't tried out any of the techniques in the book yet, I would really love to! There is something really magical about tapestry weaving and I love that this book gives so much information on how to do it your own way.
This was a really interesting book all about tapestry weaving! If you would like to find out more about the craft you might like to check this one out.
This book was a nice book on weaving... lots of information. Nice pictures and great instructions. Perfect for a beginner.
I appreciated the clear instructions and pictures. I am new to tapestry weaving but use a rigid heddle loom to craft rugs, towels and fabric for multiple uses. I enjoyed learning something new
An interesting new slant on this type of weaving. Well illustrated with lots of information to tempt the reader.
We are reminded that creating a piece of woven fabric is not only about image but structure too. What. weft may be unsuitable for warp where a strong fibre is required.
Tools needed are explained well and overall it’s a well written beautiful book. Perfect for anyone interested in weaving whether new to the craft or experienced.
This would make the most lovely gift too.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher.
A comprehensive reference and introduction to tapestry weaving. With many illustrations, it looks at every aspect of tapestry weaving, from types of looms to different techniques. In addition to the clear photos and illustrations that teach, there are beautiful; and inspiring photos of modern tapestries.
The book may seem advanced for beginners, but this is a book that will be at your side whenever you weave.
This is a comprehensive introduction to tapestry weaving. Mezoff has an excellent style which is likely the result of her being a teacher. I love that she included a little section on troubleshooting as there's nothing worse than getting caught up in frustrating experiences when you're trying to learn a new skill.
The book is absolutely gorgeous, and I hope I can create something half as wonderful soon!
I thought this was a great book for someone who is new to tapestry art or for someone who wants to brush up on their skills. This is a great book to add a contemporary view on tapestry to a collection or to have as a stand alone and the only tapestry book in a collection. This has a wealth go knowledge from Mezoff who is an active teacher of tapestry weaving and knows how to break it down for the new artist who has no knowledge of weaving. I would recommend for all adult nonfiction art collections and for teen collections that are looking to offer a greater collection of art books.
I received a copy through NetGalley for review.
I have read many books on tapestry weaving.
As a weaver myself, tapestry was something I have done before, although I work mostly on floor looms or a low beam loom.
This has to be one of the most comprehensive explanations on weaving, supplies, color, techniques I've come across yet. It covers EVERYTHING you could need for tapestry weaving.
I'm really, really impressed. There's photos, as well as walk throughs, explanations written and shown, trouble shooting for problems. It really is fantastic!
I have to applaud Rebecca Mezoff for everything she put into this. If I had to recommend a book, even to a beginner, but someone looking to really get into serious tapestry weaving, done right. This would be the ultimate book for it. She really though this though from front to back.
Well done!
A lovely overview of the craft of weaving. A great guide for beginners, and some inspiring input from textile artists. This is a beautiful book, and highly recommended.
This is a comprehensive book on tapestry weaving written by an experienced weaver. I’m a beginner tapestry weaver and a long way from being as skilled as the writer, but that’s okay. This book is a masterful reference for weavers of all levels. The book covers a variety of techniques on a variety of looms from small to large. She starts with the basics and works all the way through more advanced skills. She also has chapters discussing use of color, fiber choices, tools, design, finishing techniques, and suggestions for display. She even explains how to build your own loom! The illustrations in the book are beautiful and serve to further clarify her writing. I will definitely be buying this book when it comes out!
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with this ARC in return for my honest review.

A very fine, accessible and beautiful exploration of an ancient art. Rebecca Mezoff is an extremely talented and personable teacher who has brought all the strengths of her popular workshops and online classes to the page. Join her on an introduction to this extremely satisfying art.
The Art of Tapestry Weaving is a tutorial guide for pictorial weaving by Rebecca Mezoff. Due out 27th Oct 2020 from Storey Publishing, it's 320 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats.
This is a well written manual covering a wide range of techniques. It's perfectly accessible for a keen beginner (especially with some help support), and the author covers everything from selecting a tapestryloom, through warping, materials selections, different weaving techniques, finishing, etc. The majority of the text provides good instruction in technique and color theory, warping, picking, shapes, outlining, and finishing. The step are meticulously annotated and outlined. The author has also included several appendices: plans for a galvanized pipe loom, conversion charts for metric/SI units, and a cross referenced index.
The entire book is very well photographed with clear and concise instructions which are easy to understand. There is nothing intimidating about the book and it felt to me like the best parts of a teacher led class without any performance anxiety. This will become a go-to reference in the weaver's studio.
This would make a superlative library book, gift for a fibre-arts enthusiast or addition to the weaver's home library.
Five stars.
Disclosure: I received an eARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
This book is a fantastic guide for beginners just starting. I would even recommendthis book fir more experiencd weavers. It is very wekk written and presented.
The instructions are clear, thorough and easy to follow and understand. I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review.
Wow! This is a really in-depth, extensive guide for novice weavers looking to learn! It takes you from the very basics of looms, is full of information, photos, and advice, and takes you all the way to complicated and beautifully made tapestries.
The author has done a fantastic job with this, it is basically a bible for weavers.
I am pleased to see so many modern craft books these days, as so many of us turn to traditional hobbies with a modern twist in the style, and even considering the wide variety of guides available, this book is not a disappointment!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
