A lovely light Christmas romance that also covers some emotional topics.
I didn't realise who the author was hen I first started reading this book and was pleasantly surprised.
I love Georgia, love London and adored this book. I'm really impressed at the writing, storyline and characters of her first book. Well done.
I can’t believe how amazing this book is. I loved every page and want to know more about each of the characters.
It was such a lighthearted book and everything the world needs right now. Well done Toff.
This book was just a sheer pleasure to read. The main character Victoria is just so likeable and I loved the descriptions of her dressmaking and haberdashery shopping missions; this is my own personal interest but it is also very popular with many women currently. Oliver was an immediately likeable hero too, straightforward and honest with no bullying alpha-male tendencies which is a relief as in too many novels the man can be too domineering. I liked the friendship element too and will look forward to reading the stories of the other girls if they areas readable as this one. This is an ideal novel to read in the run up to Christmas as it is seasonal without being over the top and gives you that warm sentimental feeling that everyone needs at that time of year. Thoroughly recommended and very giftable to friends who like reading happy books!
This was an okay, fluffy read. Not too much depth or emotion. Just a quick time-pass, beach read! Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an early copy.
This was so much more than what I was expecting from toffolo’s first novel, a great little piece of escapism, a predictable but equally lovely story
I really enjoyed this. Women with actual proper jobs and actual hobbies and actual problems combined with a delicious PG romance. Beautifully written, I fell completely in love with Ollie and loved reading about their relationship developing without the normal platitudes and saccharine predictability.
What a wonderful story. Yes, it's a predictable romance but sometimes this is just what you need for a pick-me-up.
Victoria and Oliver literally bump into each other. Neither really want a relationship but make an arrangement to please Oliver's parents.
Oliver runs a big store, Victoria works in a bar and designs clothes on a tight budget and also teaches teenagers to do the same. They are worlds apart, but isn't this why we love stories like this.
Set on the run up to Christmas made this story so magical.
I have to admit, I cried happy tears towards the end.
Thank you so much to netgalley and the publisher for an arc. Loved it!
If you live in the UK then you probably heard of the author from the show "Made in Chelsea" and winning "I'm a Celebrity..." in 2017. I liked the sound of the description of the novel, but wondered would she be a good author? I'm going to say right upfront - when I finished the book I said to myself book was "well, she can write!"
The story follows Victoria who works in a bar but her real passion is her dress design work and working with a group of kids helping them to express themselves through fashion. She's just come out of a messy break up and what's more she has a heartbreaking backstory. (There is a trigger warning here for infertility.) Then she meets Oliver - well collides with him whilst carrying a box of fabric and then she recognises him as a guy in the bar the night before who drunkenly proposed to her.
The next part begins a little bit like a "You've got Mail" Megan Ryan/Tom Hanks story line, as she has no idea he is the owner of the new store that could be putting all the local businesses at risk, including her ex boyfriend's. She actually finds out quite quickly who is and so then goes on to agree to be his fake fiancee, as he offers to help local businesses and showcase fashion made by the kids she is tutoring. It also helps that he is mega rich and treats her to some magical experiences along the way. Oliver also has a backstory and we get to find out it more as the story progresses. Despite being rich he maybe doesn't have it all or lead the perfect life, also his father is very ill.
I really got hooked into this book, it helped that Victoria likes fashion and beautiful fabrics, but even without that it was a fabulous will they won't they journey. Very well written with great down to earth dialogue and lovely characters. I was waiting for their to be a horrid person, but apart from a couple of characters everyone is truly lovely.
If you are looking for a little bit of escapism and a look at how the other half live, then this is the book for you. Hours flew by whilst I was engrossed in this book.
I'm giving this book five out of five stars. My thanks to netgalley for the ARC.
A typical winter festive type of read. A chick lit romance which is well written and easy to follow. The plot line was good and kept me interested in seeing what happened next. A little predictable in places but overall a pleasant easy read for a cold winters night
The story is about Victoria, a bar manager who aspires to be a full-time fashion designer. Victoria also teaches a small group of underprivileged students in her flat above the bar she manages. The students are ready to exhibit their work, but they haven't found a venue yet.
Carrying home a large box of fabrics and accessories for her students, she literally bumps into Oliver, the son and heir to the Russell & Co department chain. After they dust themselves down, Oliver realises they can be of help to each other. Victoria needs a venue to showcase her students work, and he needs a fake fiancee to present to his parents at the new store opening.
Naturally, there are secrets and problems to overcome, and the biggest one as far as Victoria is concerned, has seen her previous boyfriend, Peter, end their relationship. Victoria fears Oliver will walk away just as Peter did, so closes herself off to the possibility of a real relationship with Oliver. Can they overcome their respective fears or is Victoria's secret determined to keep them apart?
I loved the main characters Victoria and Oliver. They felt very real and genuinely nice people. I couldn't help but want them to realise their love for each other and find happiness together. I didn't like Andrew, Oliver's cousin, whose jealousy of Oliver made him quite unpalatable. Nor did I like Peter. I think Victoria had a very lucky escape there!
As a debut novel, I thought it was of a good standard. The writing style is easy to read and I found Meet Me In London to be an uplifting story. I enjoyed this story and would recommend it to readers who enjoy a bit of chick-lit.
There is lots to love about this festive romance, which follows two hapless singletons who end up fake-engaged to help them keep their nosy family / ex off their backs. What starts out as a proposal of convenience turns into something more! The perfect Christmas read.
I find it hard to resist a winter warmer but I must admit I had some reservations about this book primarily because it was written by a reality star. I am pleased to say I needn't have worried, the plot and characters were balm for the soul and gave me all of the winter feels. A lovely, heart warming read that tenderly addressed difficult themes. Utterly gorgeous, thank you netgalley for the advanced copy.
I read this on one of the hottest days of the year, but could still picture the cold and festive setting. Will be a good winter warmer for a long cosy evening or two.
The story focuses on Victoria, but we are told this is the first of 4 books so we will presumably get to read about each womN in their o2n book. Theirs is a life long friendship and they are there to see each other through the good and the bad.
Victoria and Oliver make a deal, which is supposed to be to their mutual benefit, but will things go to plan? The story draws you in, has several different threads running through it and is a lovely easy read where you want to find out how issues are resolved.
A feel good romance!
With the lead up to the festive season Ollie is feeling the pressure of not only getting the family store ready for opening day but the mounting pressure from his parents to settle down. To get them off his back and for some breathing space he makes an off the cuff remark that he is engaged. However, he now needs to find someone to fill the role to meet his parents at the store grand opening.
Meet Victoria, an an aspiring fashion designer. With a broken heart and a past accident taking forefront in her life she finds it hard to trust and swears off men and love.
Ollie bumps into Victoria at her works and they strike up a friendship of sorts. He then asks her to be the stand in as fiance and she agrees as he offers to help her work wise. As feelings surface the boundaries blur as these two get closer; as the countdown to the pretence mounts as they both realise it will soon all be over.
A light easy read which will have you hooked. I was rooting for a happy ending for the lead characters.
This was a bit of a slow-burner for me. It took almost half the book before I felt invested in it. The lead characters were enjoyable enough, and I did end up rooting for their happy ending, but I never felt fully connected to them. Oliver felt a little stiff - I understand that it was part of his character, but I think there was room for the reader to be let into more of his personality, it would have helped drive empathy for him. Victoria was sweet, and the fact that we got to see more of the story from her point of view helped, but something (though I'm not sure exactly what) felt like it was missing from her development. Their romance was endearing, if a little predictable, but I actually got more from the Russell family dynamic and Victoria's relationships with her friends and students.
It's easy to see that the author was writing where she knew, because the scenes were set beautifully, and really helped to ground the book in it's location. Setting it at Christmas also helped add a little magic to the story.
Overall it was a pleasant read, and I will continue to read through the rest of the series as it was published, but it didn't blow me away.
Thank you to Georgia Toffolo and Mills & Boon for the advanced review copy of Meet Me In London. Victoria is a hopeful designer who agrees to an unusual deal with a man she just met, little did she know that the deal would become entangled with reality in a mix of romance and passion. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was heartwarming and will be released just in time for the book to feel even more Christmassy. I loved the friendship between Victoria and her three best friends and will be eagerly awaiting the three further books around the lives of Zoe, Malie and Lily!
Be prepared for your heart to swell as you fall in love with Oliver and Victoria.
This is a lovely, well written romance story, a debut from the author (which I didn’t know until after reading and it did surprise me as it was so good!)
The main characters are both likeable and as the story progresses you become intertwined in their lives. You feel their pain, you enjoy their triumphs and will there to be a happy ending!!
It’s an easy but enjoyable read, one you won’t want to put down as the story of the characters lives unravel.
A must read for all. Be prepared to devour in just one sitting!
Thank you to Netgallery, the publishers and most importantly the author, for the chance to read this book, in exchange for an honest review.
For debut novel this wasn’t bad, a light easy romantic story! The story between the main characters Oliver and Victoria was good and to see how their characters develop through the story was good to read too. I liked how it’s echoes Hollywood romance too. Enjoyed it
This is a light, but enjoyable book about two people who live a slightly fake engagement to please families. Oliver, hounded by his mother, needs a girlfriend. Victoria , an aspiring fashion designer, agreess to be his fake fiance provided she gets space at Oliver's new ahop to show her designs.
The best part of the story is the care Victoria shows in helping young disadvantaged designers, and giving them a place to show their designs..
Otherwise, it is a slightly predictable fantasy....but an enjoyable one.
Thanks to NetGalley for a review copy..
