5 Word Review: Friendship, secrets, London, fashion, love.
Meet Me in London feels very British in a Love, Actually and Bridget Jones kind of way. The moneyed and polished London that tourists expect, that's romanticised everywhere. And it works perfectly for the story.
This book hits upon one of my favourite Romance tropes - fake dating. Victoria and Oliver enter into a fake engagement (it's not a spoiler, it's right there at the top of the blurb!) and I loved the little twist on what I'd expect.
I loved Victoria's love of fashion - I loved her passion and her style, and it felt so natural that when we looked at fabric she pictured the outfit she would make from it and who she would make it for. I love how she shares her skills, she's so generous with her time and with herself and is a truly lovey person. Victoria as a character is so uplifting and the perfect Romantic heroine. I felt happy reading about her, even when the story explored darker and more difficult themes.
I really appreciated the triumphs of the characters. For all that Meet Me In London is a Romance, so you know you'll get a happy ending, I liked the small victories of the characters too, the hope throughout the story.
For all that everything is pretty glossy on the surface, the story was deeper than I expected. I enjoyed it so much that I'm itching to reread it!
I absolutely cannot wait to read more books about this group of friends. I feel like I'm one of the gang myself and I'd love to know what their happily ever after will be.
The audiobook is narrated by Toff herself and it didn't quite work for me. I think it's purely because I had already read the book and had my own idea of what Victoria would sound like and it didn't match up. That said, the narration by the author does give some different emphasis to certain parts of the story and really brought Victoria's pain to life.
An enjoyable story of a fake romance with, heartbroken after the collapse of her former relationship, Victoria. The twists and turns of this sweet romance are improbable on times but also compelling reading. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it for a friend’s Christmas present!
This was a really pleasant surprise of a novel. Victoria was a really strong character and her interactions with Oliver were well written and their romance was lovely to read and well written. The storyline was interesting and moved at a good pace. A very enjoyable read which I am sure will sell when released and deserves to.
I’ve got to admit I was somewhat sceptical regarding this novel by Georgia Toffolo, but I was completely wrong. I was blown away by the book.
As Christmas approaches we meet Victoria, bar worker by night, fashion designer/teacher by day. Newly single she’s happen upon a chance encounter by Oliver Russel, multi billionaire with the power (and money) to make her dreams come true whilst also pleasing his ailing parents. But Victoria has a secret which the readers know of but Oliver does not - will she get her happy every after?
This book was beautifully written, the characters were excellent and I cannot wait to read meet me in Hawaii where hopefully we will see more of Victoria and Oliver.
Victoria has had her heart broken by her ex, living above the wine bar she runs and designing clothes she is finally getting over Peter, when she meets business tycoon Oliver Russel, Oliver is sweet, caring and in need of a pretend fiancé. Victoria agrees to pretend to be Oliver’s fiancée if he will run a fashion show on opening day of his department store, as Victoria is drawn in Oliver’s life she starts to fall for him, but secrets from her past stop her from taking things further.
A lovely book that kept me turning the pages.
A wonderful Christmas romance story that you must read!
I wasn't sure what to expect with this being @georgiatoffolo first novel. It was amazing, I can't wait for Meet me in Hawaii 🏖️🌴
A predictable Mills and Boon romance novel but nevertheless a heart warming, feel good read that did not disappoint. The characters are so likeable and the story is really well written.
A sweet tale of Victoria who’s been struggling since splitting up with her boyfriend. Sadly he has the tailors shop across the street where she was supposed to showcase her bridal designs.
The opening of a new department store has the locals up in arms but it takes a different turn for Victoria.
This book swept me away to a romantic street in Chelsea and I enjoyed the story. Probably not the deepest book I’ve ever read but a nice tale.
This is a wonderful light romance.
The characters made me smile and the story flowed along without having to think about it.
It has a real feel good factor which is ideal for Christmas.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This totally got me in the mood for Christmas (despite it only being September?!). It also made me reach out to tell my friends how much I appreciate them. Beautifully strong friendships and a Happy Ever After tale that left me with a warm tummy and a restful weekend spent reading this under a cosy throw. I'd very much like to hear from the other characters in this novel as they all seem incredibly likable! Well done Toff on your debut!
Thank you Georgia Toffolo, the publishers and Netgalley for providing me with an advance copy of this book.
I enjoyed the story and the development of the characters. An easy, enjoyable - curl up under a blanket at Christmas - read.
Would be interested to hear the stories of the rest of the group of friends.
I must admit I loved the synopsis for this book, and the lovely cover, but really wasn't sure if it would live up to expectations, as lots of celebrities write books but not all very well! But I was pleasantly surprised with this book, it was very enjoyable.
The main characters were Victoria and Oliver. Victoria had been through a tragedy in the past, but had risen above it and moved on (mostly) with her life. She was a dress designer and helped out disadvantaged youngsters who also wanted to be designers, so a caring person.
Oliver was the son of the owner of a large department store, currently nearing the end of it's renovation, in the same street as a lot of other smaller shops, including the bar where Victoria worked part-time.
It wasn't really true to life in lots of parts, but when reading a light, uplifting, romantic sort of book who needs real life, especially these days! So if you're looking for a light-hearted, romantic story with good overcoming everything and the right person getting their HEA then this is the book for you. It was set around Christmas but really could be read any time of the year. Very enjoyable, and I look forward to reading the rest of the series (I assume) about Victoria's close-knit friends.
Meet Me in London follows the story of Victoria and Oliver. Victoria works part time as a bar manager but is also a dress designer, something she would love to pursue full time. Oliver meanwhile is the CEO of Russell and Co, a chain department stores across Europe. Victoria isn’t looking for love whilst Oliver’s mother is pushing him to find a wife. After a chance meeting Oliver offers Victoria a proposition: pretend to be his girlfriend until the opening of the new store. Can they maintain a fake relationship or will it lead to something more? This book is really well written and I felt you could easily identity with the characters. It’s a quick read that will certainly keep you turning the pages. Thank you to NetGalley, Mills and Boon and the author for the chance to review.
A brilliant first novel for Georgia and I for one hope she continues writing The story of romance and mystery kept me enthralled from beginning to end. Following the lives of Victoria and Oliver and their friends and family was real yet a bit fairytale. I need a book and it’s characters to be believable yet part of fiction is to give us possibilities that may or may not occur. Although the end was fairly predictable it wasn’t a dead cert which is what keeps you reading. My only criticism is that some chapters are very long which I don’t like. Thanks Georgia and NetGalley
A real feel good novel in every sense. Lots of smiles and warmth - a perfect winter’s read. I’ll definitely be looking out for more by this author.
A real gem from Georgia. I found it an excellent unputdownable novel. Plenty of emotional issues that added to the story of the main characters- Victoria and Oliver. Definitely top class, feel good read.
A spectacular debut from Georia Toffolo, or Toff as she is better known.
Meet Victoria Scott, a wannabe vintage clothes designer who works in a bar, in Chelsea but dreams of, one day, opening her own boutique.
Victoria meets Oliver Russell who offers her a proposition to be his pretend girlfriend until his families department store opens just before Christmas.
Can they keep up the charade or will it become too real?
Will Victoria's past catch up with her and will it send Oliver running?
A truly romantic novel set amidst the festivities, I loved it!
With these types of books you know the happy ending is inevitable, but it’s the story inbetween that decides if it’s been a good enough book or not. Thankfully this book did have an enjoyable storyline with a good mix of characters that you enjoyed reading about/getting to know.
A good book to be savoured on a cold day with a cuppa or a glass of wine to accompany it with.
I requested this book because I know who Toff is and thought I might enjoy it. Unfortunately it was not my cup of tea. Sorry. I didn’t really like the characters and I didn’t like the writing style either.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.
OMG I loved this book. Victoria has been through so much but despite this she is the kindest person always helping others. When she agreed to help Ollie out as his fake fiancee in exchange for him helping showcase her students work in his store things turn complicated. Her life is about to change is so many ways and thank goodness she has her 3 besties to pick up the pieces. Will Victoria get her happy ever after? I was so sad when I came to the end as I wanted more. I need a sequel.
This is a must read for all lovers of this genre. Toffolo has created an adorable heroine in Victoria and realistic lead male. You will find it very easy to be drawn into their world because of the images the author creates. As readers of fiction we want to escape into a new world but not one that is far fetched. This book strikes a lovely balance that I think you will enjoy. Recommended.
