After being jilted by her fiance, who didn't come back from his stag do in Ibiza, Katie has been hiding out in Bali, where she has made a great friend in the cafe owner Agatha, but her money has run out.... the ex emptied the wedding savings account when he did his bunk..... and she needs to go back and so Agatha persuades her to go to Cornwall where she owns a cafe and manage it for her. Soon settling into the lovely Cornish village she starts making friends and there is the gorgeous artist Oscar next door.... but she is definitely off men!

A lovely story set in my favourite Cornwall, Katie is a great character as are other members of the village and it is great to see her building confidence as she gets the cafe up and running. A lovely light easy read.

Found myself smiling throughout this story! So much so I had to pass it to my sister to read afterwards as she didn't understand how a book could make me genuinely smile! Safe to say i caught her smiling a fair bit too! Lovely story can't wait to see more

This review has taken a while to write and has definitely led to a block on me writing reviews. The reason for this is that I made the mistake of reading other peoples reviews before I wrote mine and it then made me question my rating of it. I think its important to understand why someone has rated a book as they have, as this is not a bad book, however I feel that some might see the 3 stars and think it is not worth a read, which is not necessarily the case.

This is a sweet story about Katie who, after being dumped by her fiancé just weeks away from her wedding she decides to go travelling to figure out her next steps. Still reeling from the breakdown of her relationship and finding out that her ex has taken their savings so he can follow his dream, Katie meets Agatha who offers her the chance of a fresh start in the small village of Perrinby at a café she owns.

Katie knows it will take a lot of work to get the place up and running she is determined to turn it into a welcoming place for everyone in the community. She looks at various ways to make the café profitable with themed nights and offering workshops using the talents of the new friends she has found.

This is a gentle summer read that has plenty going on to make you smile but be prepared for Katie second guessing her choices and struggling to let go of the past. There were times where I felt the story took detours away from the main plot which left me frustrated at times as I think the growing relationship between Katie and Oscar suffered as a result.

I liked that fact that she eventually finds a way to let the past go, whilst also giving the ex a few home truths and putting him in his place. I was routing for Katie to make it work and for the anticipated happy ending but didn’t love the book as much as I thought I would. Not that it is a bad book, I think if you are looking for a bit of easy escapism then this would be a great book for you. I think I was expecting something with a bit more.

Lovely premise for a story but I found the pace a bit slow and the main character too pessimistic. On the whole lacked a bit of zing that the imaginatively flavoured cupcakes couldn’t quite make up for. I found it enjoyable but hard going at times. The characters are delightful to meet but need a bit more ‘Jayness’ throughout.

Thank you Netgalley

This was a really cute and easy read, with the most darling of characters and a lovely story-line woven in between them all.

This book was predictable, but fine. I picked it up hoping it would be similar to a Jenny Colgan book and it just didn’t quite get there. The beginning was really slow, but it eventually did pick up a bit.

Good storyline. great charcters, the story flowed really well, and it was a fun read.

Katie and Dominic are about to get married, except on his stag do, he goes to Ibiza and doesnt come back after emptying their joint bank account. Katie decides to go to Bali and meets a lady called Agatha who asks her to run her shut up Cafe in Cornwall. Katie agrees and sets out to open Katies cornish kitchen where the most disgusting sounding cupcakes in the entire world are made. Case in point Marmite and peppermint with crushed nuts on top, Liqourice and Honey with mashed parsnips on top. Yukkity yuk yuk.

I sat and read this in the garden and it was a great way to while away an afternoon.

There are so many familiar and well-loves tropes in this book - new beginning in an unfamiliar place, an unexpected benefactor, friends to lovers, nuisance ex, an even more of a nuisance baddie, quirky characters, a hunky fella with a secret and heartache in his past, a summer fate, a cafe, and a misunderstanding - it's got the lot, and to top it all off, it's set in Cornwall!

Lighthearted good fun, with a couple of more serious moments to balance the emotion.

Great summer read that follows Katie putting her life back together after heartbreak.
I managed to read this in 24 hours which is always a good sign of a great book!
Loved the sense of community spirit within the town - wish there was more of that around here.
Great read!

This book was a cute little read and fun for summertime. To be honest, the story didn't fully captivate me, but I like the cover, and the main character was likeable and relatable. Thank you for allowing me to read and review this.

Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest reveiw.

This is the first time I've come across Rosie Chambers, but the cover appealed to me, and like so many other books I've read recently it was set in Cornwall. An enjoyable easy read. Would be perfect for reading on a beach - if we were allowed to go on holiday in 2020 but we're not so it was perfect for reading cosied up in the house looking at the rain!
