This is the second book by Rosie Chambers that I have reviewed, and I can honestly say, I like this author.
Over recent months, I have read a lot of books which feature Cornwall and I am dying to visit. Perrinby sounds like the perfect village and I wish it was real!
From the outset, I felt as though Katie deserved to find success. Taking the brave leap to move to Cornwall and re-ignite a once successful business would be a challenge for anyone but, with no business experience, this was a huge decision.
The supporting cast were all fine characters who, if Rosie Chambers fancied, could make for a terrific series. I’d love to learn even more about Jay’s florist shop, Ruby’s salon, The Hope and Anchor and Talia’s adventures in Bali and Australia!
This is a gentle story which builds perfectly to the pre-requisite happy ending. As Katie learned more about herself, her confidence grew and so did her ability to examine her past. Not all strong women realise their power immediately. Sometimes, it takes a crisis to reveal one’s true nature.
This book is a joy to read and I hope that Katie’s Cornish Kitchen is a roaring success!
Katie moves to Perrinby, Cornwall to run her friend's abandoned cafe after her own fiance goes on his stag weekend and doesn't come back, taking their joint wedding savings with him. She has three months to make the cafe work but, with crippling self-doubt and an over-eager property developer in the mix, things won't be easy. Will she find a place to call home or will this be another failure to add to her battered self-esteem?
First of all I want to say I absolutely loved Perrinby with its community atmosphere and focus on paying things forward. There are some great characters in Jay and the wonderful Talia and Oscar is a worthy hero of the book. Katie was generally a great character- definitely likeable but the ease at which she switches to doom and gloom and feelings that she should just give up become a little wearing after a while.
The plot is great, if a little predictable but the last chapter seems to leave a lot unresolved.
Great summer read but not totally satisfying.
This book just didn't work well for me, although the descriptions of the food/desserts did allow me to give it its third star. The descriptions of the young waitress' hats and clothes were also quite enjoyable.
Too many unresolved subplots, not enough consideration for how long it takes to bake the massive number of cakes that the protagonist had to make, too many repeated internal musings and conversations. It all led me to the demoralizing practice of skimming in order to get to more enjoyable sections of the book.
Katie is such a fantastic and likeable main character, you can't help but feel for her when she experiences the ultimate betrayal from her fiancé. This is a heartwarming story where Katie goes off on honeymoon- minus the groom. This has been the escape I've needed, where better to do that than between the pages where you can disappear to Bali. I haven't been able to put this book down, nor have I wanted to. The author has very quickly pulled me in and I have found this read more enjoyable than this author's previous book. This is such a lovely summery read which allows you to escape and switch off, I definitely will be recommending this book to others. I have to give this book five stars, although I do wish I could rate this higher to show how fantastic a read this book is.
They say the path of true love never runs smoothly and it certainly seems the case for Katie. After mending her broken heart in Bali, Katie is given the opportunity to run a cafe in the beautiful village of Perrinby. She quickly makes friends with the local residents and other business owners and is determined to make a success of the cafe. Although as with most things in life, it isn’t plain sailing. This book will certainly warm your heart and make you hungry as it transports you to the Cornish coast. Well written and definitely a page turner. Thank you to NetGalley, HQ Digital and the author for the chance to review.
This is the first book that I have read by Rosie Chambers and I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. It has a very good storyline and feel good factor which we all need at this difficult time. I was transported to Cornwall which sounded idyllic. I would definitely recommend this book as an excellent form of escapism. I can’t wait to read any other books that Rosie Chambers has written.
This is one of those books that when you start you do not want to put down and I didn’t read it in a day. I loved how Katie’s character didn’t see herself, how others see her. She puts herself before others due to having a broken relationship with her dad. A wonderful story of love, loss, friendship and forgiveness
Predictable from start to finish – yes - but that’s kind of the point with feel-good women’s fiction. Personally I love a story about a down-on-her-luck female throwing herself into a new business venture and village community, whilst making quirky friends and trying to avoid falling in love along the way. And, that’s exactly what I got.
The new business venture was a cafe, the village a picturesque Cornish seaside one, the community spirit provided by village fetes and other events, the friends eclectic Talia and flamboyant Jay, and the love interest local artist Oscar.
This book also delivered some good life lessons. My favourite, which really resounded with me as it echoed advice I was given by a life coach, was Katie’s realisation that you can’t control how other people acted, only your reactions to them. Sadly, though some of the ethical themes such as zero waste, veganism and good karma did feel a bit preachy at times.
This wasn’t a page-turner but it was an uplifting, feel-good story filled with fun, friendship, love and foodie treats – perfect for these current times.
Katie has been dumped by her fiancé and goes to Bali until her money runs out. Sent to Cornwall she opens a cafe. Fun collection of characters and enjoyed this one. Didn’t like the realtor but otherwise hard to put down. Highly recommend this book and author.
What a fun summer book! It reminded me of Jenny Colgan books fun with a little romance and a happy ending. I've never read Rosie Chambers before but I will be reading more of her books.
I received an advanced copy thanks to NetGalley and all opinions are my own.
I have never read a Rosie Chambers book before, Thank you HQ & NetGalley for the early copy I am now I fan.
I have spent the morning curled up on the sofa dreaming of being in lovely Perrinby Cornwall.
This is such a light hearted warm fuzzy read that I have just devoured in one sitting.
By page 3 the story with the dog cake I knew I was going to love this story. It was predictable yes but also a joy to read, at one point I was hoping Katie didn't go to Ibiza and glad it went the way it did.
Can't wait to read more from Rosie.
Katie's Cornish Kitchen is a heartwarming and light romance with plenty of fun, quirky and engaging characters. The plot was perhaps a bit predictable as romances often are, but it was still an enjoyable read.
Such a good summer read and a escapeism book. This book has a lot of the things I crave in romance books. . It is about betrayal. It is about learning to trust and love yourself .it is a about a quirky and loveable society.. you Will absolutely fall in love with the characters in this book. A must read. Thank you to netgalley for letting me read this e arc in exchange for an honest review
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. What a great feel good read, great characters, good storyline and set in a fabulous location. Loved it.
#KatiesCornishKitchen #NetGalley. When Kate gets left by her fiancée weeks before the big day adds to emotional issues from her past. She travels to Bali to lick her wounds. While there she meets a fellow English women who has relocated after her husband dumps here in a horrific way. Agatha offers Katie the chance to start over as well. Giving her a café situated along the Cornish coastline that has three months of expenses prepaid. Katie is impressed with how Agatha has structured her new life and business. Not only giving back to the local community but paying attention to the environment and implementing measures that will lessen her foot prints on the local community. Katie agrees to take over running the café.
Katie arrives to a neglected building. She sets about building her brand while vowing not to let her heart open to further heartbreak. The last is complicated when she meets her neighbor a hunky artist who has emotional baggage of his own. several set backs as well a s a local businessman with his eyes set on acquiring the café for his financial gain has Katie questioning her decision to own her own business.
The path to her happily ever after takes many twist and turns. Helping hands form her quirky new neighbors add to the story. The supporting characters are as well defined as the main characters which add to the rich tapestry the author has woven in this story. It is a feel good novel that is perfect for an escape from the turmoil going on around us.
Thank you HQ & NetGalley for the early copy to read and review.
After Katie experiences ultimate betrayal from her finance, she heads to Bali using their honeymoon money and whilst there meets the lovely Agatha.
Agatha's desire for Katie to thrive and move on from the past sees her handing over the keys to her old cafe in Cornwall.
Can Katie manage this cafe and start making a profit before Agatha's money runs out? Is she even ready to undertake the task? Reopening this cafe and making it profitable won't be easy. But it might just be the challenge Katie needs to move on from her old life.
I was instantly drawn into this story because of the blurb, title and cover. I am absolutely living for books set in Cornwall at the minute, all I want to do is pack my bags and open a little shop along the coast.
This book is filled with glorious descriptions of baked goods, so prepare for your belly to rumble at every turning of the pages. I especially loved the ethics behind Katie's Cornish Kitchen; zero waste, donations to charity and local community events.
This book is a stunning, Summer's read full of romance, food and friendship. What's better than that?
Oh, and there's recipes at the end of the book - such a nice touch!
I really want to read more books by Rosie Chambers.
To start with this was a a really lovely book, I enjoyed getting to know the residents of Perrinby, towards the end I was a little disappointed at how rushed the ending was, it literally finished in 2 pages after the secrets were revealed. I would like to see a sequel to this.
A lovely summer read. I really enjoyed it. Loved how the village pulled together. The descriptions of the village and Cornwall. Tne baking sounded yummy. A must read
Katie Campbell had rushed off to Bali after being jilted by her fiancé 4 weeks before their wedding. Not only that, he’d taken all of their savings with him. In Bali she met up with Agatha, who, when it was time for Katie to come back to the UK, gave her a chance to breathe life into a cafe in Perrinby, Cornwall.
This is a really light and lively read. The descriptions are vivid and well written, giving the reader a real feel for Perrinby and Cornwall. The characters are intriguing, from Oscar who runs the gallery next door to the cafe, Talia the young waitress she ends up hiring, through to Greg, the Mr Bad Guy of the piece. They are all rounded and believable characters, and it’s easy to want to keep reading about their stories. It even makes me want to try my hand at baking, which is handy as there are two good recipes at the end of the book. My only slight criticism might be that I would have liked to see a bit more of Greg. However, lovely read which would cheer any reader up.
My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for an ARC in return for an honest opinion.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
Jilted by her fiancé, Katie Campbell has been mending her broken heart in Bali.
Agatha, restaurant owner and her new friend provides a listening ear when she needs it.
Katie tells her she’s worried about going back to what’s left of her life in London,
Agatha has just the thing for Katie – to manage her old café in the beautiful, picturesque village of Perrinby in Cornwall.
But reopening the café and making it profitable won’t be easy, but Katie is determined to make the most of her fresh start.
Making new friends in florist Jay, waitress Talia and handsome neighbour Oscar, and focuses on making the café a welcoming place for the community – from hosting workshops such as floristry, pizza-making nights and the local knit-and-natter group.
The café under is threat from the local property developers.
Will Katie find the recipe to make her Cornish Kitchen a success, or tell Agatha she’s been unsuccessful?
