It’s 1998 and brothers Adam and Will are on holiday with their girlfriends on the French alps at a resort. When the brothers want some time out from their other halves. So, they decide to go out and have time on the slopes. But the weather is not good but, Cameron the instructor thinks that they can still go out. But when they do the brothers get lost out in the snow and only Adam returns.
Twenty years later back at the resort Ria and Hugo are entertaining clients to get sponsorship money for Hugo’s company. Yet again the weather is so bad, and the roads are closed, and the guests are all snowed in at the luxury chalet. When there is an avalanche and after they discover a body that has been frozen in the snow. Could It be Will from all that time ago?
Thank you, Harper Collins and NetGalley for a copy of The Chalet by Catherine Cooper. This is a superb debut by the author. I didn’t realize it was until I read the reviews, it was that good. This is a real page turner that you will not want to put down and I thought just the right length. I reckon Catherine Cooper one to watch. I can’t wait for more from this author.

This was a gripping pacey thriller, perfect for staycations or vacations. A murder mystery set in the Alps in a luxury chalet is a bit of a funny thing to read during a heatwave in the middle of a lockdown but it was a great piece of escapism!

Tour Operator Hugo and his wife are entertaining potential investor Simon and his wife in a luxury ski chalet. The action moves back and forward to a tragic skiing accident twenty years previous, in some way linked to these four characters.
The Chalet is a well- crafted debut thriller, eminently readable, to the end in fact, such was the tension. The settings are described well, such unimaginable luxury on the one hand and the danger from the unpredictable weather conditions and ambition on the other. The characters also work well and while there is the odd stretch of credibility called for, this read is very satisfying and a little different.
I will be reading more of Catherine Cooper
Thank you to Netgalley and HarperCollins UK for the opportunity to read it.

A thriller book which was expertly thought out by the author! I didn’t know who to trust I didn’t know who to champion and I couldn’t figure out what was going to happen
From the first chapter to the last I was gripped. This is a book that you will never want to end. It is thrilling from the get go!
Looking forward to more from this author

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this debut novel by Catherine Cooper. It was a cannot put down read and I was eager to get to the end. I am not really a fan of flipping from present to past but really enjoyed this book.

I was sent this via Email from the publisher to review and am I glad I did!
This didn’t initially appeal to me, having never had the opportunity to ski, but having always wanted to, I decided to give it a go and this book certainly didn’t disappoint.
The story is set in a luxurious ski resort and is focussed around Hugo and his partner Ria (In the present day) who have invited some big shot investors to stay with them in the most prestigious chalet at the resort.
During their stay there is a very bad snowstorm and a body is discovered on the slopes.
The story then switches (very cleverly) to 1998 when two brothers went out with an instructor on the slopes during a similar snowstorm, but only one brother returned.
The surviving brother is called back to The resort to identify the body, believed to be his brother. With no room being available he is accommodated within Ria and Hugo’s chalets
At this point the story really comes together, flirting between past and present, with many exciting and unexpected twists and turns that you don’t see coming.
This is a fantastic 5 star read in my opinion, it was hard to put the book down mainly due to the apprehension as to what would happen next

The Chalet is set in a ski resort in France. Perfect for a mystery thriller. Catherine Cooper's use of the weather and snow to give us a chilling atmosphere is splendid. I love a story where we have a past and present storyline, this way we get drip fed information about each character and build up an understanding of what is going on.
In the past narrative two brothers go out to ski in a blizzard. Only one survives. In the present four people are on holiday in the same ski resort. One or more of them have a connection to the past. And, I loved the discovery of the links.
Each character was built up well, there was the usual suspects of ones that we really hated to the ones we felt sorry for. There was one characters narrative that I absolutely fell in love, I can't go into detail who, as it would spoil the storyline. But, I felt an emotional tug towards this character.
The Chalet is a fantastic story that develops just like the setting it's set in. You start at the top full of excitement of what lies ahead. Then as you go along there's a few bumps and twists that lead you astray. You may be left in the dark as to who is there but all becomes clear. However, is there another run? I do hope so
Thank you so much to Rachel at Harper Collins for my invite to read this fantastic story. And, to Netgalley for my gifted digital copy

Thank you to Harper Collins and to Netgalley for the invitation to read The Chalet by Catherine Cooper. It's a book based at a ski resort in France based in 1998 when two brothers go on a ski holiday together with their girlfriends and the current time when two couples go skiing at the same place. I don't want to give any of the story away.
I loved all the intricate relationships between the characters and how they intertwined to the current date.
It's Catherine Cooper's debut novel and what a brilliant book. I had quite high expectations from the blurb and from the info the publishers gave me and it certainly lived up to and even exceeded them. It was a similar read to Lucy Foley's books which I also thoroughly enjoyed and I loved the ski location and all seemed quite imaginable.
I enjoyed the way the story flitted between the years and also between the different characters.
A thriller full of chills
I will definitely be looking out for future titles by Catherine Cooper

Ooh I just loved The Chalet! The writing flowed well. There were really no loose ends. I loved the first person perspective from various characters. I loved piecing things together. I think this is one of those books that I’ll be thinking about for a long time. It was a quick read and I can’t wait to read more books from Catherine Cooper! I highly recommend and am giving The Chalet 5 stars!!!
Huge thanks to HarperCollins for allowing me the incredible privilege of reading this book in advance!

Wow wow wow!! What a debut! Catherine is certainly going to be one to watch in the future!
I adored this book and devoured it in a few days. If not for a small demanding child that I had to care for I would have finished this in one sitting!
This is a good old fashioned mystery set in the incredibly beautiful Alps. I loved that the book was written from many points of view and also went from past to present and how you eventually start putting the pieces of the puzzle together and realise who is who and how everyone is connected. Incredibly well written I honestly cannot praise this book enough!
You need to read it now!
I cannot wait to see what Catherine does next...I will be first in the queue!
I received this book free of charge from the publisher in return for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

Thoroughly enjoyable after what I though was a it of a slow start ...I couldn't figure where we were heading.
But as the book progressed and the various protagonists slowly revealed themselves everything fell into place in a delicious manner. The author cleverly dropped some major hints quite early on but because of my preconceptions I missed them until quite late on in the book.
My only (slight) criticism was the unlikelihood of all the various threads coming together in such a way, but despite this I wholeheartedly recommend this first novel.
My thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.

A brilliant read that had me from the first paragraph. Well written with suspense at the correct level = I had to know how it ended but not enough to rush it and ruin the read by skimming sentences.
You just didn’t know which avenue the next line was going to go down but some how you were kept in that particular moment and not thinking or trying to guess where it was heading.
I don’t usually have this with books like this, I try to guess and pick out red herrings etc but with this I just wanted to be in each moment forgetting about the background stories that were happening and as the next paragraph started I was Then lost in that one.
Loved it, read it in one sitting. I want to read it again which isn’t something I usually do.
Massive well done to the author and even more praise for being a debut novel. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

4 Stars from me
I loved this glimpse into the skiing world - having never been I am now starting to see the appeal!
I enjoyed the story of the 2 brothers and their girlfriends - right up until a certain moment anyway - it was brilliantly portrayed and I was hooked. The snow, the cold, the feeling like an imposter in a world that you could never fit into, the arrogance of Adam - all brilliantly described.
There are other threads at play and these add together to muddy the waters leaving you grasping at gossamer threads trying to work out who is simply a guest and who has an ulterior motive.

I was instantly hooked by this novel and remained enthralled throughout. The story is set in a beautiful, luxurious ski resort in the French Alps and alternates between a tragic and defining event in 1998, and a visit by some interesting characters to the same ski resort, 22 years later. As the story unfolds, the connections between the two time frames become apparent and the reader is slowly and cleverly introduced to the relationships between the characters across the years. This is a suspenseful novel with well-developed characters and an exciting plot. Highly recommended. Thanks to The author, NetGalley and Harper Collins for the ARC.

I was invited to review this book after receiving an email from the publisher and thought this sounded like a good read.
This is an impressive debut story, like a modern day Agatha Christie or Patricia Wentworth, with a cast of dislikable characters . It becomes evident fairly early on that there is a link between events of the past and future.
I will certainly be looking out for other books from this author.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my review.

Taking place in the French Alps in 1998, two brothers are skiing with their girlfriends and one ends up dead.
The story jumps from the 1998 to the present and told from different characters view, which was a little confusing at first, but Cooper did a good job to keep everything clear enough.
With plenty of twists and turns throughout this book definitely keeps you hooked.

Hugo and his partner Ria are reating some investors to a week in a ski reosrt, hoping the investors will get involved in Hugos business. During their stay the weather gets worse and during a bad snowstorm a body is discovered on the slopes. In 1998 two brothers went up on the montain during a snowstorm with a guide and only one brother returned. The surviving brother comes back to identify his brother and meets up with the couples in the chalet. There are a number of threads lnking everyone together, plenty of secrets and questions to be answered.
This a good story from Catherine Cooper, plenty of tension, even th weather adds to it.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest revire

Thank you to Netgalley and HarperCollins UK, HarperFiction for the arc of The Chalet by Catherine Cooper.
4 Star read- This follows two sets of timelines within the story from 1998, as 2 brothers both went to the French Alps on holiday but only one ended up returning and going home.... decades later a dead body has been found at the same resort the two brothers stayed at previously.. are they connected? or were it coincidence or was it accidents.
A huge 4 star from me because of the suspenseful and gripping plot to the writing style which was immensely enjoyable and a quick read for me as i read within a day!

Well written debut with an unusual storyline and full of characters that all have something to hide. I read this in a couple of sittings, the alternating narrative seamless in execution and instrumental in making this a pacy read. Catherine Cooper. A writer to watch.

Hugo and his wife Ria are staying in a top end luxury chalet, the owner hopes Hugo will book his chalets for his clients and Hugo is hoping his friend Simon is going to invest in his business. More than 20 years before two brothers and their girlfriends cam to the same resort for a ski holiday and one of the brothers died, his body never found. Whether they know it or not some of those in the chalet have met in a previous life and the scene is set for an Agatha Christie like country house crime drama. The plot is complex but credible and it keeps you turning the pages.
