Really good read! I could not put it down and finished it within 2 days! I really hope there is a sequel as I would certainly read it! Thank you netgalley for the chance to read this title in return for a review.

Loved it! devoured in one sitting - cleverly written with a plot that has plenty of twists and turns. Great story.

Excellent book. Really enjoyed reading it.. could there be a sequel... looking forward to reading more.

I quite enjoyed this book, well written and character's were well thought through. The plot thickens with every turn of the page with lots of nice twists along the way. Very easy to read and will be enjoyed by millions i'm sure.

I can't say this was the best book I've ever read.
It was quite slow and at times boring I'm afraid for me. There was alot of description in regards to food and cooking, which got quite annoying and unnecessary.
The story was okay and there was some twists towards the end, but it seemed to end abruptly.
Someone else may throughly enjoy it mind, and the description of the actual chalet and luxury of the ski resort did make you feel like you were there, so I'm giving this book a 3 star rating.
Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for ARC

A gripping read that will have you hooked from the first page to the last, eager to find out what happens next this book is not my usual read but i really enjoyed it.5*

Absolutely loved this book. It’s twisty and full of surprises. An absolutely great read. You know when you get a book that’s so fast paced your reading speeds up? Well that’s what you get with this. Highly recommended.

A very good story, with well-written characters - I couldn't put it down. This book reinforces every one of my prejudices about skiing holidays; it was a real treat, and I would thoroughly recommend it as a holiday read.

Keeps you Guessing right to the end.********************************************************************************************************************************************************************

I've only ever been skiing once in my life, a school trip when I was thirteen and I absolutely hated every single minute of it. I also understood the guides disdain for the pretentious 'richies' that came along thinking they knew it all. These two things for me meant a well written opening sequence had me already wanting to know what was going on...
I completely devoured this one sitting read, not being able to work out who the killer was and the truth behind the past despite a number of separate scenarios I came up with along the way. Each one I was certain about until the next twist came along. I couldn't stop being intrigued about who was involved in this tale.
Totally loved it.

Absolutely loved this gem of a story. Absolutely disliked all the characters but still couldn’t help but enjoy the story. A new talent to keep an eye on! Strong 5/5.

Catherine Cooper's excellent debut moves between events surrounding a skiing accident in the French Alps in 1998, and the same venue in the present day, where a group of people have gathered. Hugo is wooing an investor for his business; Ria, Hugo's wife, doesn't really want to be there, and doesn't really want to be married to Hugo either, it seems. Then there's potential investor Simon, his much younger wife Cass, their young baby and nanny Sarah, along with efficient chalet girl Millie.
Interspersed with this narrative are accounts from 1998. Events from a skiing holiday attended by brothers Adam and Will and their girlfriends are told from various perspectives, but mainly Will's girlfriend Louisa and ski guide Cameron. And there's also a narrative from an unknown girl, in an unknown time period, as she recounts her childhood experiences.
The setting reminded me of Ruth Ware's recent (and also excellent) One by One. I know nothing about skiing, but that's no obstacle to enjoying either book, and The Chalet was undoubtedly hugely enjoyable. My only caveat is that it perhaps revealed its secrets a little too soon - I half expected a further twist which didn't really come. But it was a fantastic read.

Merrily down the garden path I went, making the assumptions the author presumed I would, right up to the reveal!
An excellent story, crossing 2 different times at the same ski resort, the first where a young man died and the second a seemingly unrelated tale of wooing for investment.
However all is not as it seems and as the tangled web unfolds the truths keep coming.
Well paced, well twisted and extremely well written....almost (but not quite) made me want to take up skiing (totally up for the Apres, not so much the ski!).

I read this quickly - usually a sign of an enjoyable read for me. I don’t know what genre of book I’d put this into, it was a bit of a mystery but not really a thriller so it’s a bit ambiguous. Two timelines are narrated around events in an Alpine ski resort twenty plus years apart. How they’re linked is the mystery. No more plot as they’ll give the story away. I enjoyed the twist around Andy, suffice to say I hadn’t recognised the link there. This is definitely no great work of literary fiction, but would be a good holiday read. Thanks to #netgalley and the publisher for an arc in exchange for a review.

A bit of a rollercoaster thriller. Multi-narrators tell the story of murder at an Alpine ski resort. A death in 1998 comes back to haunt guests in the same resort 20 years later. Clear characterisation keep the story rolling along and this is an engrossing and involving thriller.

A great story offering some second guessing as to who is who and what could happen from here along with the impact that can be felt years on from an incident...

The Chalet is set in a ski resort in the Alps, and told across two timelines.
In 1998 two brothers are on a skiing holiday when they go out skiing in poor conditions, get separated from their guide & only one of them survives.
Twenty years later, Ria and Hugo are staying in a luxury chalet in the same resort where they are trying to impress Simon in the hope that he will invest in Hugo's company, and Cameron, the chalet owner, is trying to impress Hugo in the hope that he will offer the luxury chalets as part of his exclusive travel portfolio.
When an avalanche shifts some snow and a body is discovered, the events of 20 years ago are remembered, and there are some interesting twists & as we find out more about what happened twenty years ago, and realise that more people have links to the past than they and the others realise. Who knows what really happened twenty years ago? was it just an accident?
Overall I enjoyed this, it was a gentle read – but perhaps not one to take on that skiing trip this winter!
Disclosure: I received an advance copy of this book free from the publisher via NetGalley. Whilst thanks go to the publisher & author for the opportunity to read it, all opinions are my own.

Wow! What a stunning debut. The Chalet is a sublime thriller which I zipped through and couldn’t put down. The plotting is smart and the characters well moulded to engage the reader’s emotions/likes/dislikes. It will keep you guessing throughout.
It hits the sweet spot of being extremely well written such that it is a pleasure to read and it’s difficult not to devour too quickly. It is reminiscent of both classic crime/thrillers but also modern hits such as Lucy Foley’s - Hunting Party.
I would thoroughly recommend. A strong 4.5*.
With many thanks to Harper Collins and Netgalley for an ARC in consideration of an honest review.

This felt like a strange book to be sitting down to in the midst of a July heatwave - a book set in a snowy ski resort and rooted in the treacherous conditions of a bitter blizzard! Still, this was an engaging and pacy read that I devoured in one sitting - almost unheard of for me. It is really quite astounding that this is a debut novel from Catherine Cooper as it feels very assured.
The narrative moves between a tragedy in 1998 when two brothers were lost in a snowstorm in the French Alps and the modern day. Twenty years later, four friends hire a luxury chalet in the same French ski resort, but it soon becomes apparent that there are tensions under the surface and no-one is quite as they seem - and links back to the day the brothers got lost on the mountain begin to become evident.
Many of the characters are quite unpleasant, but this makes for an interesting and toxic environment and the luxury chalet soon becomes a claustrophobic nightmare. Ria seems to dislike her husband, Hugo, and keeps her secrets well hidden. Hugo is trying to impress an obnoxious client, Simon, and his downtrodden wife, Cass. Chalet girl, Millie, is trying to keep their holiday on track and chalet owner, Cameron, is there to promote his business. All these characters thrown together, each presenting their own stories through first person narration, make for a twisty and engrossing story as it becomes clear that someone is seeking revenge for the 1998 events.
I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers as we do get to see the workings of the minds of various characters and what has brought them to the French Alps. As secrets are revealed and lies are told, you will want to carry on reading into the night!

Fantastic Debut, I was instantly absorbed and read it in one sitting. A fast paced read with excellent characters. I will definitely be recommending this to everyone.
