I truly enjoyed reading Olivia, it was much more than a supernatural book. A vampire who survived the hunt and therefore struggles with PTSD and hardly can trust in any human. Olivia is over 500 years and fears from humans.
One day she has to trust in one as her pet parrot needs treatment. She meets with Mia, a human veterinarian, who can help not just her pet but as well to get her through the past. Both women has their own problems and they can be each others aid.
This novel is a new level of vampire fantasy with human problems, romance and fight.

I really wanted to read this book because I am a huge supernatural genre fan and the synopsis was something that I had never come across before. I’m glad that I got the opportunity to read this. It started off slow for me but picked up around the middle of the book. The story was well written, the dialogue was fresh and I was engaged throughout.

This is a peculiar book that delves into a world where humans, vampires, fiends and the likes co-exist. We are introduced to Olivia, a vampire who has lived for more than 500 years that has PTSD. Turned against her will and succumbing to her thirst for sustenance she committed a grave mistake that haunted her for centuries. Having survived from a hunt by humans she struggled to establish trust due to the trauma and loss of her kind until her pet parrot fell ill and required medical attention from a human vet.

It is an interesting read for the genre but I was hoping to see more of the prowess of Olivia and felt that the passionate aspects of the love story between Olivia and Mia fell a bit short and wish that there were more.

Olivia has been a vampire for over 500 years and has been struggling with PSTD ever since. She doesn’t trust humans she fears them but when she needs help with her parrot.

Olivia encounter Vet Mia in her quest to get help with her parrot as she realizes her PSTD is getting worst. Mia understand damage people because she has problems of her own but as they build a friendship which turn into more they realize they might found the person that can help them overcome their problems. This was a good read I like that the author mention Elizabeth and Abby in this book.

Book two from this author, and it did not disappoint. Continuing in the same “universe” as the first book, we get to see new characters from the community center for fiends unfold in this tale, as well as some guest appearances.

Unlike the first installment, this book goes a bit darker, dealing with very human issues for a non human--a vampire--and how she copes with it. It is not often the protagonist has to come to terms with their PTSD, or even have the life experiences to warrant it, but Olivia has struggled for centuries. It’s only in an unlikely encounter--with one Dr. Amelia Sun--does she realize how bad it is, and that there might actually be hope for her in confronting, and maybe, conquering it. And, not only is there the romance aspect, but also an intriguing antagonist with quite the twist.

The overall story is compelling and well done, with the characters effortlessly drawing your empathy and fight scenes that leave you guessing. You may have read vampire stories before, and even vampire romance, but not like this. Olivia is one of a kind, and you can’t not laugh at, or with, Mia and her nihilistic look on just about everything besides animals or fiends.

Definitely a different pace, but a very fun and exciting book to read. You’ll be wishing for more of these fiends by the end--I certainly do.

The book "Olivia" by Genevieve McCluer is about the over 500 year old vampire Olivia who has been carrying a lot of guilt for many centuries, suffering from PTSD and is afraid of humans. To get help for her sick parrot, she has to overcome her fear and go to a vet, Dr. Mia Sun.
Mia also has problems and uses self-medication with drugs to get by. The two quickly become friendly and one thing leads to another.

Readers of the book "My date with a wendigo" will be pleased to find Elizabeth and also Abby mentioned in this book. The writing style of McCluer is unique, partly very direct, which does not mean that it is bad. The book is written in the first half from Olivia's point of view and then changes the perspective to Mia.
The story captivated me less than her previous work, but it was still a pleasant pastime.
