Brilliant collection of games for home or school - I wonder he many families were happy to have a copy of this handy for lockdown!! The value of games and play for adults and children mustn't be overlooked.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for letting me read an advance digital copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
This is a treasure trove of children's games with so many brilliant ideas that are perfect for entertaining the littles during this period of lockdown and school holidays. There are indoor and outdoor games, those which can be played seated and those which require energetic movement. There is also a section on travel games for long journeys. I will certainly be returning to this book next time I need to plan a kids' birthday party, as there is a chapter devoted to this. Even better, I have enjoyed being reminded of the games I used to play when I was young. If you're a parent who's been wondering exactly how to play hopscotch or stuck in the mud, then this is for you!
There is so much material in the book that it can be hard to know where to begin. It's certainly better suited to dipping into than reading from start to finish, Although there is a handy index if you already know the name of the game you're looking for, it would be wonderful if there was a way to view all games suited to a certain age group or number of players. This would help organise the book into the accessible reference guide it deserves to be.
The book I didn’t know I needed until 10 weeks of lockdown. This collection of games is perfect to dip in and out of when those cries of “I’m bored” start. There are a real mix of traditional and more modern games for all occasions. From games to play in the playground, the home, the beach, with small groups, your family or huge groups, this collection has something for everyone. A great addition to a family bookshelf (and pretty perfect for a pandemic too)
a great resource for anyone with kids in this current time. Although a lot of the games are basics, or ones that we many have played before as children it was a good memory jogger to have them all in the one place as a reference guide on 'what to do today'. Also helped to have something 'official' for the kids to pull out and chose what to do next. Especially liked the travel games as these are the places that I usually have no idea how to keep them occupied, so when we can travel next, we will be reading this section again before we go!
