Let's be fair, if you're a parent you will understand the perils of living at home with children. This series of books follows the children growing up and how much it winds Mummy up more and more, and drinks more and more!
Another great read from Gill, my wife and I have both read this book and thoroughly loved it. Funny, charming and very enlightening!
I was given a free ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in return for the an honest review.
These have always entertaining and true to life. Unfortunately this one was a step too far and the impact has lost its punch..
Just like the other books in this series this book was full of laugh out loud moments and mummy related humour. I loved the characterisations and I hope that there will be a fourth book.
I am a HUGE fan of the mummy books and have laughed my way through the previous three. This one was no exception. Wonderfully funny, relatable and warm. Would recommend for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
I loved the original Peter and Jane blog and have so enjoyed this series of books that have come from it. Gill Sims truly captures the essence of parenthood and just how complicated your relationship with your children can be as you all navigate your way through the different stages towards adulthood. This made me laugh, cry and agree wholeheartedly and I was a little lost myself when I'd finished it. I do hope there is more to come in some form from this author as the way she writes is a tonic (sometimes with gin) for the parenting soul.
Loved all of the book from these series, and this one was no exception! Funny and real, it was just what I needed.
Big thnx to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an e-copy of this book in exchange of my honest opinion.
oh how much I have loved these books! Hilarious and as a wife and mother, completely relatable! Must read for any fellow mothers out there
The fourth and final (fingers crossed not though) instalment of Gill Sims very funny series following the misadventures of Ellen, the Mummy of the title and her brood of Jane and Peter and now estranged husband Simon. She's rapidly approaching 50 and realises that all too soon she'll have an empty nest....
I've really enjoyed this series but felt very sad reading this (in between guffawing and scaring the dog). As mentioned above this is apparently the last of the series and it does feel like it. Lots of ends were tied up neatly. And maybe it's right to end on a high. And this is a high place to end. I walk away from this series with many good memories and a whole lot of new swear words and insults to take with me.
I have loved reading this series and am so grateful that I received a copy of this book to read and review. Gill Sim has a wonderful way with words I enjoyed this latest instalment which is what everyone needs right now, it made me laugh and I love the comedy the author writes with. Although this one didnt make me laugh to the same degree as the others. I found some of the wording quite repetitive of what has been in previous stories. This is still a great read that I recommend especially if your after some light hearted escapism. I love it when an author keeps a theme throughout their books and some of the encounters although exaggerated really hit home and people with teenagers will be able to really relate to some of the scenarios that form the story. It is a great read but after loving the first two my expectations were really high and it just didnt enchant me the same way the other books have done. Grab yourself a copy and prepare to have a giggle and the highs and lows of parenting.
Brilliant book as expected. I laughed throughout.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for an honest and unbiased opinion.
Hilariously funny, a must read for all parents. I promise everyone will be able to relate at some point.
4.5 Stars

This is the last book in the Why Mummy.. book series and I honestly was so excited to read this book, with it being the quickest I have ever hit that request button when it comes to NetGalley! I was bought the first book in this series as a gift, which I was originally disappointed about, not thinking that I was going to enjoy this type of book, but I thoroughly loved it and feel in love with this style and I have devoured the entire series ever since. This has been the perfect series to pick up and read whenever I have been in a reading slump or have needed something light, quick and funny to read.
Although, there is a lot of recap throughout the book, I would absolutely recommend reading this series in order. There is a lot of stuff that happens from book 1 to this book that you will miss out on if you decide to read this book first and you may have trouble understanding who everyone is. You become more invested in the characters, their lives and their history and development throughout the years by reading the books in order and then you get the conclusion with this book.
This book is fast paced and easy to read thanks to how the story is formatted, being written in a diary format of the main character, the mummy herself. This does mean that the story, throughout all of the books, are told from her point of view and if you’re not a fan of her as a character and don’t like reading from her perspective, then you’re a little screwed. I’m not going to lie, I did at times find her, as a character, a little winey and stuck up, but that is her character and I’m pretty sure that you’re supposed to.
I still laughed a lot while reading this book, with this being the fourth book in the series I was expecting it to be a little disappointing, but I honestly still enjoyed it. Although none of the books quite hit the 5 Stars that the first book got from me, they all are rated really highly and this one just missed being 5 Stars, with me being slightly picky and giving it 4.5 Stars. You get to see how the characters all have developed over the space of all of the books and although you do get some overall conclusion, there is still an open future for the characters that you can’t predict what is going to happen for them because you can’t predict life.
This has been an easy auto read and pick up for me, whenever I’ve seen it in stores, and now I need to find another book that is similar to this, as I love having books like this on my shelf. Books that I know I will laugh my way through it no matter what I’m going through, will get me out of a slump, fast paced and easy to read, so if you are looking for a read that contains any of those things, then I highly recommend this series!

I loved all this series I love Gill Sims has a Author I have the whole series I got to know Ellen and her children from a young age to adult and now she 18 buying her first car. You get to know Ellen everyday life in a year . Even her friends who she has great chemistry with you get to know their lives has well. Even her ex husband you learn how they’d love each other and now they parted and they just friends and Ellen does online dating It’s such beautiful written Gill Sims writing style is so clever written in this book. Such entertainment and funny make you laugh through the whole series you enjoy. I was hooked from start to finish you enjoy this book.
This made me laugh so much. Recommended reading for these troubled times if you've even had a sniff at parenting. I'm knee deep in homeschooling and this lightened the load each evening. Wonderful. I hope there are more.
Ellen has been a wife and mother for so long that she’s found herself a little lost. Despite her best efforts, her children still don’t know the location of the laundry basket (who's does!), the difference between being bored and being hungry, or saying ‘I can’t find it Mum’ is not the same as actually looking for it.
Amidst the stress of exams for Jane and Peter (stress more for mum that the kids), Jane's driving test and going off to uni in September, Peter's smells and her ex-husbands new girlfriend, she’s doing her best to keep her family together, even if everybody is set on drifting off in different directions,
I enjoyed this book, it's a good quick read on how parenting really can be at times - rewarding and unrewarding and stressful and calm - a right maelstrom of emotions. The kids are fun and appear typical teenagers into photographing every angle for Instagram or playing computer games with their friends and the ex-husband is a bit of a numpty for throwing it all away.
The story is set out in a diary form covering a full year which made for a highly realistic time line of events that sounded all too familiar and I knew exactly what issues was on their way! Whilst it's set in contemporary times, it appears to be a covid free time, though there is a reference to 'driving for some eyesight checking' which we all know took place (unless you have been living under a rock of course) - in some ways I wish this reference was not there after all the events we have been through over the last year being in and out of lockdown especially as there is no mention of the aforementioned problems.
I received this book from netgalley in return for a honest review.
I just loved Why Mummy’s Sloshed by Gill Sims. This book hooked me in from the first few pages and I read it in one sitting. Full of laughs I was able to loose myself in the book which is a great release in these difficult times. A great laugh out loud book.
The bittersweet but funny and very real finale to the Why Mummy series was a joy of a read. Written in epistolatory style, mum Ellen is now confronted with the chaos of her daughters A level traumas, a separated husband, the possible loss of her job plus a menagerie of animals. A great read.
I received a copy of the book from Netgalley to review. Thank you for the opportunity.
A hilarious yet sweet sorry, detailing the highs and lows of motherhood.
A good read.
Very sad that this is the final title in the series as I have read each as soon as they were available and loved them all. But I guess all good things come to an end ... and you will understand why when the story ends, which I thought just a wee bit too quick, unrealistic and convenient.
As usual the book is filled with some laugh out loud moments and spot on hilarious descriptions of all the dynamics between divorced parents (and new partners), parents and teenagers, teenagers and teenagers, the ex's family, your own family, your friends etc. The author just seems to articulate very relatable situations into exactly what you want to say (or scream) yourself but are too scared to.
But it's not all fun and chuckles. There are some sad situations and feelings expressed just as well and warmly and turned into positives.
I took a long time to read it though but that’s mostly because of a reading slump and one other book I just had to fit in as soon as it was published. Not the author’s fault of course but I do have to say maybe that’s because this time, the book didn’t hook me in as fast as the others did, which I couldn’t put down. Maybe I’m just too used to the formula from the previous three and I could predict what was coming. Nonetheless I was glad to get back to it and one I did start again, it held my interest to the end.
I am sad to see the series and highly recommend it to all mums!
I have read all of the books in this series and really enjoyed them all, so I was very excited to be approved for this one.
For me, it had the same laugh out loud moments as the previous ones. I find so much of these books slightly exaggerated but so relatable. They make me feel like my life with a job, husband, child, dogs and all of the feelings, emotions and chaos that comes with that is normal.
I was not really sure where the storyline was going with this one until the last quarter or so of the book. The beginning simply seemed to be her going through life and her anecdotes to make you laugh.
When I saw the storyline emerging it seemed fitting and like the right conclusion. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
I can't wait for the next in the series (hoping there is one).
