This book is really only for people who need entry level knowledge of Meghan Markle. it also features a few things that were debunked in Tom Bower's latest book on the Duchess of Sussex 'Revenge' - MM was not present in LA when the LA Riots were happening - she was in Palm Springs with her father. I didn't really learn much new stuff. but it reads well and is quick and zippy.
Other Side of A Coin.,,
Claiming to set the record straight, this biography gives the reader another side of the coin when it comes to the drama surrounding Meghan Markle. The book moves from her early days, through to her screen career and through to her Royal marriage and aftermath. In essence, a well written and well balanced account which is both interesting and compelling.
This was a brilliant read and is being featured on my blog for my quick star reviews feature, which I have created on my blog so I can catch up with all the books I have read and therefore review.

Wanted to like this account but it read so sycophantic and kiss-arse... Sorry, but that's the only way I can describe the experience. Nobody can be such a paragon of virtue and everything good and not have one bad thing going for them - even Lady Diana was not so one-faceted even though she was the epitome of grace and perfection.
Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Interesting. I am not a lover of Miss Markle, but she certainly has made her impact on the world. I am concerned that she does seem to fall out with a lot of people especially her family. Misunderstood. Time will tell. Somehow I think the story is just beginning.
It was good to read about the other side of the story and not the perceived view of the press that is put before us on a continuous basis.
A really enjoyable and interesting read seeing Meghan as a whole person and understanding her family history which ultimately makes her who she is.
Well recommended to give you a balanced view on her life and her experiences.
Thank you Netgalley.
awful book. does not shed her in a good light at all. I did not like the style or language. It is written in a very blase way. I really did not enjoy this book at all
I found this book really interesting and loved the different perspective this story brought to light,
We have heard a lot about Meghan via the media, and unfortunately not all that you read is in fact truthful.
The author puts forward a more endearing look at a woman who has been scrutinised, often unfairly, by the country, and I certainly found this a fascinating read.
Thank you to netgalley and HarperCollins UK, Nonfiction for the arc of this book.
4 star read for me, this was a very compelling and interesting read about Meghan so it was nice to read and get to know her, her family and her background. This book is well written and researched If you are a fan of her or want to know more about her then this is for you, this was a great read and i really enjoyed this and now know a lot more about her which is fab as i really like her! shes an amazing actress too! I recommend to all.
Megan Misunderstood by Sean Smith
I think I misunderstood this when I requested it. I thought it might give an open and frank insight into Megan. While I did finish it I found it very dull. I have no feelings either way about Megan but this author certainly does. He quite clearly is a big fan. So if you’re also a fan you will enjoy this book, if however you’re looking for some gossip forget it. There is probably nothing in this book that fans don’t already know, but for the rest of us it’s pretty bland. I give it one star as it wasn’t for me. #MeganMisunderstood #SeanSmith #NetGalley
This book drew and repelled me in equal measures. I found her backstory compelling and her need to understand, support and push for change inspiring. But the tabloid press has been ruthless, despicable and beyond what is decent to a woman who only wanted a chance to settle with the man she loved.
As much as enjoyed reading the author did annoy me at times, when he would refer to the DoS as Markle. As I understand it she stopped using her maiden name when she married, the final strike mark against the author for me has to be the statement "senator Markle sounds much better anyway" - surely the correct form would be Senator Mountbatten-Windsor as that is her married name.
It's the first biography of a royal I've ever read and it was quite entertaining.
It's well written and full of facts. It's a bit on the apology side.
I liked it and it's recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Having read all the horrendous press coverage about Meghan Markle, I was interested to read some positive facts because...there is two sides to every story!
The book is insightful and informative, packed with facts from Meghan's childhood to present day. This author always writes good biographies and this is no exception.
I would like to see a more balanced account. (no-one is perfect) and I found some chapters over detailed. Apart from that I enjoyed learning more about the other side of Meghan's life.
Although I had a generally positive image of Meghan Markle and felt she was very badly treated by the British tabloids, I didn’t really know much about her. So although royal biographies aren’t necessarily my usual reading matter, I was interested to read Sean Smith’s book and hopefully learn a bit more. Which I definitely did.
We learn a lot about Meghan’s family background, her career and her activism. She comes across, accurately I’m sure, as a caring and committed person, passionate about the causes she believes in.
I was most interested when it came to the coverage in the media after her relationship with Prince Harry became known, and Smith is very strong on this, exposing the staggering hypocrisy, double standards and thinly veiled racism and misogyny of the British media for whom almost from day one Meghan could do nothing right. There’s no need to repeat it all here, but suffice to say that while I knew it was bad (I remember her being vilified for stroking her “baby bump” in public, something utterly harmless and natural which almost every pregnant woman does and which had been covered very differently when Kate Middleton did the same), I hadn’t realised quite how toxic it got, with some columnists seizing any opportunity to attack her just for existing, it seems. Yet more evidence of how the British tabloids are a national disgrace.
It’s not badly written, but could do with better editing in places (“blatent racism”, for instance, and several incorrect uses of “discrete”) and is a bit over-reliant on cliche. (“At seventeen, she had blossomed into a stunning young woman who cast a spell over the boys.”) Smith rightly draws attention to the limited, sexualised options for attractive young women in the acting profession, but it doesn’t stop him writing lines like “Meghan’s toned figure was on show again...”.
While I’m pro-Meghan, it did feel a bit like a hagiography at times - she seems lovely, but I’m sure that like every other human, she has flaws, but you wouldn’t know it from this book.
An illuminating read nevertheless.
I was really looking forward to reading this- even hoping to give it out as Xmas/birthday presents. However, I was very disappointed- there was no new information or insights into Meghan, other than what we all already know. It was written factually but it failed to engage or excite me.
I read an advanced copy of, Meghan Misunderstood by, Sean Smith. This book was okay. I did not learn anything new about Meghan, but the writing was good.
Something went terribly wrong when Meghan married into the Royal family. I personally liked her. The press seemed to hound her until they had enough left the royal family. I was curious to find out if this book could shed some light on what went so wrong.
The book tells us almost everything there is to know about her, her family, her friends, her ex husband and ex boyfriends. Her childhood, her TV career, her charity work, her campaigning. Its all positive. She was liked by almost everyone she met.
At the back of the book there is also a timeline of her life as well as some photos of her. I enjoyed reading about her life, I did know a lot of it from various sources but there were some things I didn't know about and some things that I now know more about. Its quite an uplifting life she has lived. I see her in the light we were supposed to see her in now. I did find the answer to what went wrong.
