How do I choose a puppy? What does socialization mean and how do I accomplish it? What vaccinations does my puppy need? Should I buy pet insurance? How do I introduce my puppy to my other dog ... to my family? How do I teach my dog what I want him to know? What do I do if my dog is afraid of cars ... is barking .... is jumping on people? My dog has worms! What do I do? How do I support my dog as he grows older? How will I say goodbye to my dog?
An excellent guide to positive reinforcement training and how to happily coexist with your dog.
I received a complimentary advanced reader copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
It is not necessarily about thinking like a dog more a guide on owning a dog. Great introduction for new dog owners giving tips on what to consider when thinking of getting a puppy or dog. This book covers lots of different points about dog ownership in brief. Perfect for a quick insite into life with a dog.
A fun and quick introduction to having dogs - perfect for older kids as well. While I wouldn't recommend The Pawfect Guide to Thinking Like a Dog as a standalone guide to raising a puppy, it is great for giving some brief insight into dogs, their personality and their needs. It is also easy enough to read that you could read it to / with your kids, or older kids could read it on their own.
Interesting points about dog ownership. Most points feel rather brief and could have been elaborated on a bit more. Felt more like a long factsheet really than a book but some well made points to consider when choosing and preparing for your new friend
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book is a very basic dog owning 101 book. It offers a variety of thoughts to consider before getting a dog. Good for those people who have not had any experience owning a dog. I did enjoy the pictures of the dogs throughout the book.
This would be a good introductory book for anyone considering getting a dog for the first time. The tips are very basic, but provides a good overview of dog ownership. Including some additional resources for the behavior tips might have been useful.
The format of this book is incompatible with the reading programs I use so I was not able to read it. It looks good though, I will look for it at my library.
This is a really useful book for anyone who is considering becoming a dog owner., especially if they have little previously experience. The information is set out in small easy to read paragraphs with colourful photographs in between.
There is information on a wide range of topics such as different breeds of dogs, puppies, training your dog and common behavioural issues. None of the topics are covered in great depth, but this book provides a good starting point from which wider reading can be done. It is also suitable for older children to read as it clearly advises that all members of the family should be consistent with their treatment and training of a dog.
The Pawfect Guide to Thinking like a Dog is a snappy guide for a person thinking about owning a dog for the first time. All points are brief and if you are looking for an in-depth guide then perhaps this isn’t the book for you. It covers how to choose a dog and general dog care. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
