Fantastic thrilled fast paced I enjoyed it so much this book kept me guessing from start too finish this is worth a read
So, at first I though this was same old same old. Yes, the initial scene was a little different, but it didn't really stand out to me.
However, by 25% of the way through, I was in!
The book was nicely twisty and did a good job of making you wonder what you would do in this situation.
The reason behind everything made sense and was timely.
I ended up enjoying this one!
I’m so glad that Harry was talked into returning within this novel. As usual a gripping storyline with some heartstopping moments.
A fast paced dark thriller with a unique concept, I loved this and found myself racing through to get to the end and the conclusion
Quite an interesting plot. Unusual but interesting for a book. The book was very well written and flowed well. Definitely worth a read
The villian was so dark and I loved how dark it got! Books are afraid to push boundaries anymore and let me tell you there were so many boundaries that were BROKEN with this book. SUCH A THRILL
Adrian Hughes walks into a Canterbury police station saying that he's murdered a stranger. He shows them a picture of the body and a route map of where the body can be found. But Maddie knows he's lying. Three more victims are under pressure. If they fail, their families will die.
You have to do what these people tell you otherwise your own family will be at risk. Maddie turns to DI Harry Blaker for help in solving this case. Harry is still grieving for his daughter and hasn't returned to Major Crime investigations. You can tell Charlie has been in the police force, there's always more attention to detail. The book is gripping, tense, well written and a steady paced read. This is a really good series.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Great thriller which kept me turning the pages well into the night. Great characters and plot. Highly recommend to others!!
Thanks to netgalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
A man walks into a police station and confesses to a woman's murder - but is he telling the truth?
Although this is the 6th book in a series, it can easily be read as a standalone book. I have not read any other books by this author but did not feel like I missed out on too much. Maybe a bit about the relationship between the two main police officers?
At the beginning, there are quite a few characters but once I started to understand how each of their stories connected I got sucked into trying to figure out the crime alongside the police.
Overall, it was very easy to read even if the storyline itself does get dark and disturbing especially at its conclusion. I enjoyed this police thriller and would happily read more books in this series.
Trigger Warnings: child murder, domestic abuse
Thank you netgalley and publisher for opportunity to read and review this arc.
I’ll start out with: fantastic book! I hadn’t read anything before by this author but I definitely will be. The characters were well thought out and described and had a thrilling intense story line that kept you hooked throughout. Definitely recommend to others that enjoy this genre.
This is already the 6th book in the series, and they just get better. The book was gripping and thrilling from beginning to end, and I really hope there is a nr 7 in the series! Recommended.
I would like to thank Joofe Books and the Netgalley website for allowing me to read this book.
We find the inspector Maddie Ives who will not let what happened before happen again, four men destroyed their family and they are only waiting for one thing to find them. Except that they are safe now but the team that is supposed to protect them feels spied upon. As for the social worker in charge of the investigation, she is found beaten and suffocated.
A man will introduce himself to Maddie as being behind it all, except she doesn't believe him.
Three other people are under pressure if they don't do something their family will die. Harry Blaker in mourning for his daughter will come to help Maddie in her investigation.
A book read in one sitting so I was immediately hooked on the story so moving at times, gripping, addictive, captivating, full of suspense, intrigue and twists with endearing characters. Can't wait to read the whole series.
I really enjoyed this book. It was easy to read and follow, the characters were well thought out and very relatable. Wonderfully written. Would definitely recommend.
Seems like this is all tied up before it even gets going with someone walking into the police station to admit to a crime. Could it be that simple? Certainly not if Charlie Gallagher is the author.
Love, live, love his books. Definitely a 12/10
Dealing with the heinous crime of domestic violence and the despicable monsters who carry it out, the tension in this book is almost palpable. From the very first page it is a race against time for Maddie and the Major Crimes team to bring down the perpetrators who, it seems, will stoop to any depths to find their victims who have been moved to, what they believe, are safe homes. With a great cast of characters, especially Rhiannon "mini Maddie" Davis this is a great read which will tug on all your emotions while winding its way to a tragic end.
That was heart stoppingly tense! DS Maddie Ives has a new boss to break in after DI Harry Blakey endured a personal tragedy (in the previous book I assume) that saw him finally return to work training new recruits rather than being at the pointy end in Major Crime.. the new DI is inexperienced in detecting and is also a total nob. So when Maddie is told to close a case as solved that she feels is far from solved who does she turn to for advice? None other than Harry. He initially sends her packing but has a sudden change of heart when he realises he is bored senseless with the training work and is soon back in the saddle as Maddie’s boss.
The case is a tricky one! A man named Adrian Hughes walks into the station one night, announces that he killed ‘her’ and demands to be arrested. He won’t say much, just enough for the police to find the body and the evidence implicating him. He makes very sure of that. Maddie is convinced there were others involved. There is no doubt Adrian was at the scene but there is no evidence that he actually killed woman. The body had been there a week before Adrian went to the place to leave his ‘evidence’ behind.
Another fantastic read from this great police crime thriller series
It starts in top gear and never lets up and I started to think what a great film this would make
The startling events, excellent main character, and twisting story line keeps you absorbed right to the end
I strongly recommend reading this author
This was an intriguing read from the start and kept me guessing throughout.
When a man walks in to the police station and confesses that he is guilty of a murder that has taken place, a fast paced plot begins to unfold. Although initially all the clues surrounding this crime point at this man, there is evidently a much deeper, darker story underneath it all.
Full of suspense, twists and turns and an impressive ending, this is a wonderful crime thriller.
here's the thing, it was honestly kind of a decent book in the start, but then it kind of got bad. it really didn't hook me towards the end and i honestly kind of boring. but, the writing was kind of choppy and i didn't really care for it honestly.
It was a bit difficult for me to get into the plot. Has various intriguing aspects that had me reading on. Well written!
