I liked this book, but just that: liked. I didn't hate it or love it, and, though it was a fun read, I don't think I would read it again. I'm sure some people loved it, but this book just didn't do it for me. It seemed to generic.
Other things:
PROs
- The characters were in situations not often written about (i.e. widowed and running a sinking company), which partially makes up for the lack of creativity with the plot line (two people from virtually different worlds are perfect for each other but ,ust overcome their problems in order to be together) which is also severely overused.
- The love interest making an effort with her children. YUSS! We love to see this, so major points to love interest.
- All of the characters were well developed and the characterization was fabulous.
CONs
-Generic plot line.
- I don't think think Tristan's (love interest) point of view was necessary and added much to the story.
I wasn't much of a fan of T.L. Swan until I read The Takeover. What a wonderfully refreshing take on widowhood and starting over. Well written with great characters, The Takeover is not only steamy but sweet and laugh out loud funny. A definite 4.5 star book. Thank you T.L. Swan and #NetGalley
Loved Claire and Tristan! Claire is a widow of 5 years with three sons and a media company that is in serious trouble. Tristan is wanting to take it over for his family company, Miles Media. Claire views Tristan as a player and her enemy. Tristan is a fixer and what starts as sex ends with him stepping into Claire’s and her son’s lives! Will Claire let him take over? This was such a great read! All the feels! Tristan will make you swoon! 5 stars
I liked the premise of this story and I really liked that the female protagonist is a mother of three. Where the book didn't quite make it was in character development. Claire had a relentless defensiveness that was a bit tiresome and Tristan was condescending and overbearing. So, between her trying to show how tough she is and him being stifling in his interactions with her, I was left wishing for more nuance in their personalities. An entertaining quick read, but not a book I would go back to a second time.
Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

TL Swan is one of my favourites… I love reading her books! She is one of those authors that I am hooked with her stories and I can’t put her books down!!
“Takeover” for me it was an exceptional read, I loved it!! Definitely it was exactly what I needed!! It was funny, sweet, beautiful, heartwarming, steamy, sentimental and her writing as usual exceptional!
I absolutely loved the chemistry between Tristan and Claire! I loved Tristan for the way he was treating Fletcher, Harry and Patrick and how much he loved them, like they were his own!!! I loved the fact, that it was written in dual pov! I loved it because it was totally different from everything TL Swan has written until now! So for me is 4.5 🌟 and the reason for not rating it 5🌟 is because I’m missing an epilogue!!!I Great read, totally recommend it!!!!
So before I begin I want to state I am not a huge fan of this author. I had tried to read a few of her books before and I hated them, books like Dr Stanton and Mr Spencer. I never made it past a few chapters so maybe I would have loved them had I read more but I just hated the first few chapters I did read. Then last year the author released The Stopover and it sounded so good, so despite how I did not like her books I read it and I fell in love with the Miles family. So when I finished it and I heard there was a second book, The Takeover well I have been waiting for over a year to read that book.
And I adored it. Maybe its even better than the first book was. However be warned you will not be able to stop reading it. I adored Tristan and I loved how in he was with Claire. Claire was annoying at some parts of the story but luckily it does not last long. I also adored her sons, I think it might be why I loved this more than the first book because I did not just love Tristan but I loved her kids too, Fletcher, Harry and Patrick made this book so funny and heartwarming. I seriously will never ever forget the first time Tris meets her sons, I could not stop laughing. I think that was the best first meet cute I have ever read.
This is the story told in dual POV's by Claire and Tristan. Tristan loves to help companies out when they are in trouble and take them over. Claire is a widow and she clings to her husbands memory, his love, his kids and his media company.
The two meet and do not get along and 6 months later they end up in Paris where they start to let their guards down and have a fling. But Tristan wants to continue and Claire feels that they live in different worlds. But Tristan has a hard time letting go and I loved how he fought for Claire even if it meant fighting Claire. He is a fighter and this family realy needed his heart and fight.
An absolutely awesome story and I loved that they only want each other. Aside from the dead husband their are no exes or messy afffairs or exes getting in the way of this story.
I Read an arc copy from Netgallery for review purposes.
A widowed mother of three rambunctious boys isn't Tristan Miles' typical jam but for Claire Anderson, he's willing to make an exception. They first meet during a not-so-casual lunch meeting when Tristan tried to buy Claire's late husband's company. The meeting was a disaster, what with Claire insulting him and storming out. Clearly she left an impression on him, though, because he called her up three days later to ask her out, earning a firm no. That should have been the end of it but then they end up at the same conference six months later, and well, if it isn't a sign from above..
I loved this novel! I have been reading a lot of romance novels as of late and this one is way up there. It was utterly charming, fun, sexy, and parts of it had me laughing so hard my husband grew alarmed. I really enjoyed the interactions between Tristan and Claire's boys, thinking that was handled with sensitivity, grace, and even some levity. Parts of that dynamic felt very realistic and honest as well. I'll definitely be checking out more of this writer's work. Thanks to Amazon Publishing UK for an advanced reading copy of this novel, scheduled for release on 08/27/2020.
I have been a fan of this author for a while and I think this is a new favourite! As always I love the writing style, it's so easy to read and I couldn't put the book down. I loved every character in this book, Claire and Tristian are such a good couple even though Claire did frustrate me at times.
I loved the dual perspective and I really did love Tristian's chapters. Tristian is one swoon-worthy man, I loved how much he loved her kids and treated them as his own. Especially with Harry. I also really liked the dyslexia representation in this, it isn't talked about enough in books so I appreciated that. This book had some seriously hilarious moments with Tristian and the kids, I couldn't stop laughing about how they met each other.
I really liked the ending and all of the slightly over the topness of this book and the only reason I didn't give this book five stars because I wanted an epilogue. This author always writes pretty unpredictable romances and I can't get enough of them.
