Oh my goodness this was an outstandingly brilliant book. I was completely hooked from the start. I should add I listened to the audio version. After a few hiccups getting the book to download it was perfect to listen to. Fantastic narrator and just everything about this book was superb.
I loved the premise of this book and really wanted to love it but it left me a bit underwhelmed.
The plot involves three friends, all with their own imperfections, one is murdered and the remaining two try to discover what happened. Ultimately the truth outs but before we get there we have to journey with two women who are so unlikable and flawed that listening to their first person accounts made me eye roll multiple times
Overall this book is about 4/5 chapters longer than it needs to be.
Do you enjoy thrillers via audiobook format? I have found that I very rarely do.
Imperfect Women just hasn’t made an impact on me. I listened to this audiobook last week, and I thought it was okay, in fact in my video review on my YouTube channel (link in bio) I have described this book as ‘fine’. Yet I already can barely remember it? This was such a middle of the road read for me, sadly. I should probably stop trying to listen to thrillers on audiobook as I almost never enjoy them.
This book tells the tale of three life long friends and the imperfections in their relationships with others and themselves.
Nancy is murdered and a lot of the book is telling the tale of who this might be.
Mary and Eleanor are left to deal with the shock and grief and Eleanor attempts to act as a detective to find out who killed her friend.
As well as being a thriller, this book is so much more and has themes of relationships, unconditional love and loss.
The characters are well developed in the story and you do get annoyed with them at times but that is part of the story that they tell.
Time just passed listening to this addictive audiobook and a recommendation for long journeys as you don't want to stop the story when you get to where you are going to.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley in allowing me to listen in return for a review.
An interesting and well written reflection on the consequences and wide reaching impact of extra-marital affairs told through the viewpoint of three friends.
This was an excellent thriller full of twists and turns. The characters were really well drawn and I couldn't stop listening, wanting to find out what happened next. The narration was really good.
one murder and very dragged story as to why/ how Nancy died!
Unfortunately this was a long book and wasn't upto my liking, but I would like to thank Netgalley for the ARC Audiobook

Sorry what a disappointing read. Hate having no chapters which didn’t help the read but I didn’t like any of the characters at all. Felt they we all very shallow and only really cared about themselves. The storyline was so obvious that I had debated not bothering with finishing the book but did so out of wanting to see how the author finished the story, but that too was a big anti climax.
Thanks to Netgalley and Orion Publishing Group for the ARC copy of the book.
The story is told from the POVs of three friends, Nancy, Mary and Eleanor. As the title says, the women are far from perfect, but then again who is? They are in their forties and dealing with the ups and owns of life and relationships. The writing is beautiful and I was quite hooked at the beginning but about halfway through I lost interest and my mind started to wander. Towards the end I began to engage with the story again, but ultimately I was slightly disappointed by the book.
The narrator, Helen Keeley, did a great job.
Thank you to Netgalley, Hachette and Orion for this complimentary audiobook in return for my honest review. I'm new to audiobooks but I enjoyed the narration, it was engrossing and engaging enough to hold my attention throughout. The story itself was fast paced and I loved the writing technique of giving each character the chance to voice her own story.

⭐⭐⭐.5
Imperfect Women by Araminta Hall is a story of long term friendship, relationship, marriage, love, lies, secrets and betrayal. Nancy, Eleanor and Mary are best friends for the last thirty years since college and their relationship evolved over the years. Nancy appears to be happily married to Robert whereas Mary is unhappily married to Howard and on the other hand Eleanor is single. Nancy is killed but no one knows who has killed her and what is the motive behind her killing.
The story is told from multiple perspectives Eleanor, Nancy and Mary. The story goes back and forth between the past and the present and unfolds the mystery of Nancy’s Murder. The story focuses who killed Nancy but it also unfolds the lies and secrets these women kept. The story is all about imperfect characters. Overall I enjoyed the book and I do recommend this book to people who want to read something with the mix of mystery and women fiction.
This Audiobook is narrated by Helen Keeley and she has done a good job.
Thank you Netgalley and Orion Publishing for providing audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
This was a great, fast paced thriller. I enjoyed the plot, and it was very well written. It had some great twists that I didn't expect, and the narrator was well spoken. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was some of the characters.
Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a copy of this audiobook to review via Netgalley.
Thank you Hachette Audio UK, Araminta Hall, and Netgalley for my free audiobook in exchange for my impartial review.
This was a fast paced book, which I loved. The narrator did a great job of portraying the three women perfectly. The book focuses on Eleanor, Mary, and Nancy, a trip of university friends.
The women have come a long way from university, and their relationships with each other are very complex and interesting. Nancy, the star of the group, was brutally murdered, and the other 2 women are plunged in a battle to get justice for their murdered friend.
The story is told in 3 parts, one part from the perspective of each woman. We get to learn more about the women, and more about their secrets and their past, and the aftermath of Nancy's death on the other 2.
The ending was really unexpected, and this was an enjoyable listen.
Nancy Hennessy is a beautiful, wealthy and well-loved woman. She has a husband who adores her, a loving daughter, two best friends (Eleanor and Mary) whom she's known for decades and she also has a secret lover. Then Nancy is murdered. Through the course of the investigation into her death, it becomes apparent that Nancy's perfect life had some dark areas that she worked hard to keep hidden. The more Eleanor and Mary find out about their friend, the more they understand that they never truly knew her at all.
My top three thoughts on 'Imperfect Women':
1. In Araminta Hall's latest book, she explores the different aspects of the lives of three women. Their relationships, friendship, marriages, love, grief, guilt and betrayal. As the title says, the women are imperfect, and despite being friends for years, they have a complicated love and tolerate bond with each other. Under the layers of niceties and pleasantries, at the core, there are years of compromises, hidden jealousies and resentment.
2. As is the case with most female-oriented books, the men are just there, and they're not very likable. I have by now come to expect that male characters in such novels WILL be absent fathers and terribly aloof/indifferent partners. The bulk of the responsibilities to keep the families together and run their lives smoothly fall on the women's shoulders. Hall looks at the ups and downs of marriage through the years very well, especially when the mundanity of everyday life sets in. Even the way she covers topics of loss of identity and self, lack of confidence, struggles of motherhood and being a stay at home mom and postpartum depression feels very natural.
3. The writing is clear, the characterization is good, and the story flows at a fast pace. Yet it also felt a little drawn out mainly because it took it's time to reach the predictable conclusion. The mystery isn't much of a mystery, and the 'twist' at the end isn't really a surprise.
I finished this book within a few days. It was fast-paced from the start, which is exactly what I love in a book, I'm a very impatient reader. This book had me hooked from the first chapter. I listened to it everyday until I finished. I liked the narrator as I had the audio version of this book. I like that it did narration from various different characters. And actually the ending isn't exactly what I expected at all. I liked now it kept me hooked through the entire book. I hope to read from this author. Brilliant book. Full five stars from me.
I listened this book to 65% and I abandoned at that stage. I wasn't a fan of the theme or the characters, and found I wasn't invested enough to finish the book.
I did enjoy the narrator and though she did a good job of portraying the various voices and characters.
This book draws on the strength of the female characters, each with their own battles which become intertwined as the story unfolds. Nancy has settled into family life and seeks thrills and excitement elsewhere. After her death her two closest fiends, Eleanor and Mary, come together in an attempt to seek justice. The truth would threaten to split them apart and change their lives forever. The narrator seamlessly moved between the characters and brought them to life. I was so conflicted in my feelings about the characters, their motivations that I couldn’t help but be drawn into their emotional turmoil. If you like fast paced plots, with strong female leads and narration which portrays each character seamlessly this is the book for you
Good thriller. Absorbing and easy to get into. The story got better and stronger as it went on and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This audiobook was intense, dark, engrossing and totally relatable. The author didn’t write protagonists to be likeable, each of the three women were flawed and yet they each contained elements of every woman. I would heartily recommend this novel. I love the idea of it being turned into a film or short series. Thank you to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy of the book.
This is a good domestic thriller which is perfect as a summer beach read (not that I’ve been near a beach this year!)
This is a story of three women who have been friends since their first day of university. We meet them when as they approach their fifties and each of them is coming to the realisation that their lives are not what they had dreamed of or expected. This is a well paced novel and you will be turning the pages even though you may guess the ‘twist’ early on. I have read other reviews that say these women are very unlikable characters and while they are all flawed to varying degrees I did care about them and enjoyed the multi narrative structure.
I did find the narrator’s voice quite frustrating at times as she spent quite a lot of it simpering and tearful - yes the characters were emotional but this did get quite annoying.
