I think this book made me realise i am not a fan of audio books. I started this book during lockdown and would listen when I cleaned my room and just finished in 2023 while doing my crotchet. I'm not sure if I would have enjoyed the book more if I was reading it. This had all the makings of a small village romance and was a cute story with some heavier subjects like domestic abuse, alcoholism etc and the setting was a small village in Wales. I really liked all the different characters but don't feel like I really connected to any specifically. There was also some parts where the writing didn't really match the story. This came across as a very pg book but would randomly towards the end add something sexual in it which for me didn't really match the tone. I am goi g to tru another auiobook before I write them off completely but this wasn't a high rating for me
I liked the story but by the end the voice reading it made me sleepy.
It is a brilliant book and I can't wait to buy it
This was a brilliant read and is being featured on my blog for my quick star reviews feature, which I have created on my blog so I can catch up with all the books I have read and therefore review.

This was my first audio book through Netgalley and found it quite complicated to try and listen to which spoilt the enjoyment. Had to give up
In the end.
Well this was my first ever audio book on this app and it took me so long to work out how to do it, the book had “expired”. Can’t really offer a reliable review
One of the first audiobooks requested. Unfortunately, it did not download or appear on the NetGalley app. It's a shame that the app had so many problems in the beginning.
I enjoyed the Welsh campsite setting and the family relationships were especially well depicted. Some of the conflicts felt a little artificial but the narrator was engaging without getting in the way of the story.
I had to DNF this one. The storyline was a bit confusing. I’m not sure if we were supposed to be following multiple characters POVs or not but that’s what it seemed like. And having only one narrator made it hard to follow.
The audiobook of Under a Starry Sky is read by Claire Martin, a narrator who is new to me and she does a fantastic job of bringing this novel to life. Her voice is well suited to the story and flows well. I loved the characters and the setting of this novel that I found to be heartwarming with a touch of humour. Recommended as an easy, escapist listen.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the digital audiobook.
It is a story of family, friendship and forgiveness. I really liked all of the characters and liked reading all of their stories. We meet Wanda whose family own a camp site, and she has to look after the camping site when her mother breaks her hip.
We do meet a lot of her friends, family and the rest of the village so quite a lot going on in this one. Different parts bring us stories of past upsets, relationship dramas and problems. No chance to get bored in this story! Although quite complex at times, it is written well and moves along at a decent pace.
I was really looking forward to this but it just wouldn't play on my Netgalley app, the files were all muddled up and they wouldn't play in the proper order. It was a shame, really, but I'll get myself the paperback at some point. Netgalley audiobooks just don't seem to play properly for me.
3.5☆ A story of second chances
Under a Starry Sky is a story of loss, friendship, heartache and romance.
I read this book as an Audio Book which is not my normal method of reading and I think this could be the reason I didn't enjoy it as much as I could of done.
By listening to the book being read aloud I kept finding my concentration drifting and then having to rewind so I could get some kind of connection with the characters.
Under a Starry Sky tells the story how tragedy has a way of bringing people together. Wanda finds herself rescuing her families campsite twice after terrible things happen which calls for her to stay and help.
But Wanda wants more out of life than the campsite, but will she stay and help turn things around or will she run away!
This is very much a story of second chances, making a mense, forgiveness, loss, friendship, love, working together and family.
The plot at times was a little repetitive but written well, once I made a connection the characters were well rounded, and the pace flowed along nicely. I just would of just preferred reading the book instead of the audio copy.
Thank you to Hachette Audio UK and
Orion for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
This is a charming story set in Wales.
This story takes you through the life of the characters as they navigate their lives after a traumatic event.
Wanda is ready to travel the world, but things happen that stop her going. She has to revamp the family camp site and try and make the business work again.
Wanda, Annie and Lou have known each other since childhood.
This story is also a love story of friendship and overcoming life's hardships.
Well written and beautifully narrated on the audiobook.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley in allowing me to read in return for a review.
Quite a sweet story but I didn't LOVE the book. The narration was fine but a little low quality/ brash and a little annoying at times!
A change of genre for me, and the perfect listen on a damp day in November during Lockdown 2! The story centres around Wanda, who delays her plans to travel the world to help run the family campsite when her mum is taken into hospital and her sister is expecting twins. The campsite which is in a small village near an almost mountain (just a few feet short) and is quite run down. Each chapter of the book begins with an entry from the Guest Book, and some of them are hilarious!
There are so many wonderful characters in this book, all beautifully described and by the end I felt I knew them all. The descriptions of the village and the mountain and the dark starry skies were wonderful. As expected this is a heartwarming book which is sometimes funny, sometimes sad, but with some darker themes too. It was a joy to listen to
.
The narrator, Claire Morgan, has a gorgeous Welsh accent which is perfect for the book. I could have listened to her all day.
Wouldn’t work on my app so I’m afraid I couldn’t listen to it - I’m sure I’m not the only one!
The review needs to be at least 100 characters long but I thought you should know this is why I didn’t review it.
This is the story of Wonda, her friends and family. Disaster starts with a fire in a small welsh village. Wonda loses her dad and the love of her life, Annie loses her brother and he confidence, nothing in the village is the same – fast forward 12 years later and Wonda is due to travel around the world but disaster starts again with her mom having a fall and needing major surgery.
The story takes the reader on a magical mystery of beautiful descriptions and fantastic characters that make the story come together. The reader is kept on the edge of their seat. There is laughter, tears and guesses of who did what why and when. This is the second Laura Kemp book I have read and I certainly will be keeping my eye out for any more.
I had this on audio and was not happy with the reader, her voice irritated me for a while. Having said that she is bang on with Accents and although it wasn’t my bag, I don’t think anyone else could of done a better job.
Light relief after a very stressful few weeks. Nothing extraordinary but nothing that made me think less of the book. Great Narration made it a very pleasant ride!
Under a Starry Sky was such a joy to listen to. I felt like I was listening to a Hallmark film set in the Welsh countryside in the best way possible! The point of view switched between two former friends (Wanda and Annie) throughout the novel who each have their own struggles and tragic past. I felt so much for these characters and wanted everything to turn out okay. There is definitely romance as well, but the novel was very character oriented. There is just as much about friends and family as there are relationships. There is a campsite that is a lot of the novel’s setting and I loved how the customer feedback integrated into the story. I recommend to anyone that loves character driven family dramas.
Under the Starry Sky is brilliant and heartwarming story. I warmed to it slowly, but in the end I could not stop listening (the audiobook).
I really like how the story I written and that it kind of follows both Wanda and Annie and how their lives turn up. I like how they both have different reasons and beliefs for why they shouldn’t be friends and what they should be doing but in the end they overcome all those.
I also like the main male characters in this book. They are both not perfect, but kind, gentle and gentlemanly. I wish they would be more men like those in real life.
This was the first book I’ve listened to before I’ve actually read the book. I was a bit doubtful at first, but this book was easy to listen to. At first, I wasn’t too keen on the narrator either but in the end she was and is perfect for this book. I really like how she gave a different voice and a different accent to each character and to all situations.
All in all, this was a great, great book to read and to listen to!
