My thanks to NetGalley and Matador Publishing for an ARC of this book for an honest book review.
If you are yearning for adventure, travel and meeting interesting people then this is the book for you.
Niema Ash has led a colorful and interesting life. We meet the 15 year old Niema when she travels to Mexico City with a friend to see artist Rivera working on one of his most famous works of art. Traveling to Israel, she meets her first husband Shimon Ash, a South African musician. Hitch-hiking together through East Africa she learns that she is pregnant. She and Shimon move to Montreal and open The Fingan, a coffee house/folk and blues club. Her home kitchen and the coffee house became famous for its music and conversations. Her encounters and friendships with legends like Bob Dylan, John Lee Hooker, Leonard Cohen and Casey Anderson enrich her life and journey. As she stated “ a few became lifelong friends, a few became lovers and a few became famous”.
Her spiritual path will take her to Tibet, the Dalai Lama and the dunes of Morocco. Niema shares the intrigue and experiences beautifully.
The heart, soul and spirit of the sixties and self-exploration lives within these pages.
Niema Ash has written a very satisfying read and I highly recommend it.
