Not a bad story, but the middle portion of the book was very slow and I had a very difficult time to finish it as I was no longer invested. Thank you netgalley and publisher for this arc in exchange of an honest review.
Great book grab me from the beginning kept me interested throughout the whole thing had it done within two days
This book was well written and kept me intrigued till the end wondering what secrets Michael was hiding. What did the stranger know and who should Jenny trust. It does not disappoint. If you're looking for a great read I would recommend this book.
This book took me forever to read. Way too slow for my style. It just all seem far-fetched, in my opinion.
The only thing she was guilty of was trusting him
All Jenny Clifton ever wanted was to be the ideal wife and mother. When she married Michael in a fairytale wedding, followed by the birth of baby Daniel, her life was complete.
Yet just three years later, the shine has faded. Now, money is tight, and the occasional argument has become daily screaming matches between Jenny and Michael.
Something needs to change… and it does, when Michael is killed in a brutal hit and run, breathing his last with a stranger holding his hand.
Lonely and distraught, Jenny strikes up an unlikely friendship with the witness to the accident, clinging to the connection with the man who watched Michael die.
But as she uncovers the secrets that her husband was keeping, Jenny realises that her perfect life may have been a perfect lie - and worse, that her new friend may be harbouring dangerous secrets of his own…
A gripping, twisty psychological thriller packed with suspense and a jaw-dropping ending. Fans of T.M. Logan, C.L. Taylor and K.L. Slater won’t be able to put this one down.
This was a slow burn kind of book. Which you need to be in the mood for, thankfully I read it in a day when it was rainy and gloomy and I could just curl up. I loved the tension that was throughout the book and reading between the lines. I was ready for Gary to snap at any moment and the ending was just what I wanted.
The only problem was some of the writing phrases like “you could hear a pin drop” were repeated multiple times which just felt repetitive and clunky. It was also confusing because the phrases would be repeated over multiple narrators which made the characters seem one toned and a bit flat.
This book’s saving grace is the beginning and end: the middle could literally have been cut out and I would have been okay with it. There was quite a bit of focus on the ring and the mother-in-law that it felt just angsty at times. But, toward the end, get ready for a free fall into tension. I rounded up a half star; writing was good but seemed iffy for certain (POVs) although that was probably intentional.
Jenny is married to Micheal they have a young son Daniel. Things havent been great for some time and home life is strained. When Michael says he's going out one evening again. Jenny screams at him Don't come back and he doesn't as he is killed by a bit and run driver . While coming to terms with Micheal's death Jenny finds out the amount of debt Micheal has gotten them into. Jenny becomes close to Gary the man who held Micheal's hand as he died. But Gary has secrets of his own and is he all he says he is ?
Lots of twists in this book
Thanks NetGalley
Jenny Clifton is widowed after her husband Michael is killed in a hit and run. Her life is upended and she is consumed by grief and guilt as she tries to care for their young son alone. Grief as their life looked textbook idyllic, guilt as they were at each other’s throats and barely making it. After an especially nasty fight, Michael is run over. Her only solace is Gary, a stranger who attended to her husband in his final moments. She is drawn to him but it seems he has his own agenda. Told from various POV we learn the backstory as they see it and all of them conflict and hide secrets from each other. While covering familiar territory for a domestic.noir there were interesting and surprising elements along the way, While the beginning and end were well paced the middle seemed a little repetitive/cluttered I enjoyed my first book by this author.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author. It was a good storyline however I did find it repetitive in places and felt that there could’ve been a lot more written into the plot to make it as gripping as the last few chapters.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. I like when a book has chapters in the perspective of the different characters, and I think this worked really well in this book.
I didn’t expect the twist at the end at all! The only downside in my opinion was that the middle went on too long and was a bit slow - I would have preferred if the twist happened earlier and that we got to see more of how that played out, but I figure that the way it was written gives rise to a potential sequel, which I would be interested in reading.
I would recommend this book to others and I will definitely keep an eye out for more books by this author.
3-4 stars! A well written thriller that definitely had some suspense and chills within! something was lacking for me though, so i wasn’t able to give a full 4 stars or 5. It was well written for the most part, but had some parts that were just a bit repetitive! Overall, I did get the wanted thrills, chills, and shocks! I would recommend to those looking for a quick, suspense filled read!
Will make sure to buzz around platforms and use lower amazon reviews number on release date!
A quick and enjoyable read that was slightly cliché. I was hoping for more and was underwhelmed. The initial chapters hooked me in and although predictable, the ending was good. Thank you to Hera Books and #netgalley for the arc.
Jenny’s husband is killed on his way to a business meeting in a terrible accident. Run over by a drunk driver in a stolen vehicle. It’s senseless and leaves Jenny and her 3 year old son starting over. All she has is her memories, and the story from Gary, the man who witnessed the crime and held her husbands hand as he died. But everything is not as it seems, her has and had been lying to her, and how will Jenny ever know the truth?
I found this book to be very over explaining. It had too many narrators and even paragraphs would repeat themselves. The story was very jumbled from the start. I did not relate to Jenny or feel her pain. The drama created between Jenny and her mother in law felt so forced and useless to me. I read this quickly just to get the book over with.
Unfortunately this was a complete miss for me. The book starts off at a fast pace and is intriguing but it somehow loses steam and slows down. To me I found that the plot was predictable.
The plot has potential but the execution is a tad lacking for me, felt the characters were well developed but I couldn't connect with them.
This book is an ok read. It is described as a thriller but I found it very predictable & not that exciting. It has a lot pf potential at the start bit the plot becomes too predictable in the middle & then just falls flat.
This was a great thriller! It had unexpected twists and turns, and it was really disturbing! My favorite kind of books!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
Fast paced thriller that is easy to read and I enjoyed it.
The premise is interesting and I love reading about relationships, especially when a big change occurs.
A picture perfect house and family turn out to have darker side, and it’s all topped off with an ending I never saw coming. 👀
Told mostly from the perspective of Jenny and Michael, you learn more about both characters and the secrets they kept.
I really enjoyed the writing and pace of the book. I only had an inkling of who the bad guy was until the very end!
Make sure you check out this book!
Spectacularly thrilling. I felt like I was sitting in the room as Michael and Jenny were fighting and as much as I wanted to pick a side, I still felt crushed when he was killed. Everything that came after that, you'll have to read it to know what I'm talking about, kept me frantically turning the page.
Thank you for allowing me to read this and give my honest opinion.
I just couldn't get into this book. The characters were terrible and uninteresting.
I kept turning pages hoping for something to make me want to keep reading but I couldnt get into it. I wish the author must success but this book was not for me,
