This is a really heartwarming historical fiction
It is written so well and it’s so easy to warm to the characters and to be invested in the story
A great book
Because I'm such a fan of historical fiction, I'm always going to be quite critical with the books that I read in that genre. Unfortunately this book just didn't really do it for me. It took me quite a long time to read as I wasn't overly interested in the story. Sunny and Nan were great characters and I did have a soft spot for them but overall, I wasn't impressed.
What a lovely charming read this was! I loved the characters and plot and really enjoyed the writing style.
This was a brilliant read and is being featured on my blog for my quick star reviews feature, which I have created on my blog so I can catch up with all the books I have read and therefore review.

What a brilliant book. If you love family saga and world war books this is definitely for you. Love this author and would definitely recommend
A really lovely read. When Sunny's mother gives birth to her in the mother and baby home she leaves her there to be bought up by Nan who runs the home. The story follows her journey as she grows up and eventually learns the past history of her birth parents, and eventually finds true happiness with her young man and her extended family .Good mix of characters and some good story lines which I enjoyed immensely
With Sheila Newberry, you know exactly what you're going to get. And The Mother and Baby Home did not disappoint! A beautiful book with fantastic characters, a moving plot, and a heartwarming ending. What more could you want? Plus, the historical elements of the novel seemed really accurate and well-researched. Sunny was an absolute delight, and I loved being able to read her journey, especially given that it spanned such a long time! Definitely a book I'd recommend for anyone who wants something light and heartwarming.
Disclaimer - I was fortunate enough to be provided with an advance reading copy of this book by NetGalley. This has not affected my review in any way, and all opinions are my own.
Sunny grew up in the mother and baby home on Grave Lane, London. She had had been abandoned by her mother shortly ahe birth and Nan, the proprietor of the home, took her in. Sunny has always felt she doesn't fit in. But she's now sixteen and ready to find her place in the world. As 1950's London changes at a rapid pace, so is Sunny. When someone from her past returns, Sunny has some though decisions to make.
Sunny's mum, Serena had been in the mother and baby home when she gave birth to her. But when Sunny was three years old, Serena could no longer care for her.,so Nan adopted her. Serena was originally from Trinidad and worked as a nurse. We watch Sunny grow from a young girl into a teenager taking her first job in Rowland Printing. But she also wants to go to Trinidad to search for her mother. This is a heartwarming read with likeable characters and the story 8s true to the era.
I would like to thank #NetGalley, #BonnierBooksUK and the author #SheilaNewbury for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Oh my goodness what a book it was really enjoyable.
It is about Sunny who is adopted by Nan as Sunny's Mum Serena cannot look after her. Serena is from Trinidad and is a nurse in war time. Serena came to the Mother and Baby Home when she was going to have Sunny. Eventually when Sunny is 3 Nan the.n adopts Sunny.
When Sunny leaves school she gets a job in Rowlands Printing and there she meets Mr Rowland and his grandson Alec who thinks Sunny is a wee girl.
We see all that happens to Sunny over the years she goes through many changes in her life and will she find her Mum who she wants to go and find in Trinidad.
I will certainly read more if Sheila Newberry's book I could not put this book down.
