Another great book about Ulla - can't wait to read the next one!! I have never been so interested in a book about trolls. Bring on book 3! I just want to know how the story ends!
Sorry I'm late to the table with this one.
Thank you for the chance to read this one.
A bit like my review for the first book I just don't know how to rate this one. I still feel like something is missing from this trilogy. I have loved all of the other stories in this world and I really was looking forward to more from Ulla but I just feel a little disspointed. Perhaps the 3rd book will pull it out of the bag but this unfortunately does not have me running to pick it up.
The second in this trilogy by Amanda Hocking it continues following Ulla and her companions on her quest to find out who she is and her heritage. An enjoyable, easy read. Friendships tested, secrets discovered it will keep you hooked. The story is very character driven and they are likeable.
I was kinda hoping for more from this, the first book I accepted needs to set up characters and world building etc, but I just felt this nook could and should have been more, more action, just again like the first book we spend too long waiting for something to happen and then it ends ! Don’t get me wrong I think the writing style is great, I like the characters I just needed things to happen and a lot sooner than they did. I’m not sure if I like it enough though to want to read the next.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
I received a copy of this book to review from Netgalley. Thank you for the opportunity.
This book has good writing with interesting characters created. I enjoyed it more than the first novel in the series as it has more adventure and plot developed further and in more detail than the previous book which mainly set up the series. The relationships between characters are goo reading such as between Ulla and Pan and the author weaves mythology into the book well.
However, the book lacks pace at times and fails to use opportunity to draw the reader in which could have led to the book being more of a page turner as opposed to being an okay read but not something I couldn't put down.
On the whole a good read
"My mama always told me: get a buzz before the bar."
The story picks up immediately after the first one ended, with Ulla and Pan journeying to the Omte capital to discover more about Ulla's family. They are staying with Pan's ex-girlfriend and Ulla hears stories about an Alvolk named Indu. Upon returning to Merella, she once again meets the mysterious Jem-Kruk and begins a quest to discover the lost city and to find Eliana.
I preferred this book to the first as there was more adventure, mystery and romance. I love a slow-burn and that is definitely Pan and Ulla. There were soooooooo many cute moments where I thought they would confess their undying love for each other!! I like how understanding Pan is and he's so supportive, which makes their romance really sweet. There were twists which I definitely did not see coming and the last few chapters were really interesting.
However, the plot was quite slow. I thought the first half of the book could have been condensed, and while I loved Rikky's character, I felt she didn't really contribute anything overall. I'm hoping I won't have too long of a wait until the final book because I NEED to know what happens next!!!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this second book much more than the first. I felt as if I was getting more answers and I loved the way the narrative includes parts of Norse mythology.
It is intriguing to find out this alternate history of the bridge and the race of trolls that protect it.
It is also interesting that Ulla does not receive a warm welcome from members of her family.
Instead like most of us she goes through trails and is sometimes disappointed in what she finds.
I am intrigued as to what will happen in the final instalment especially with that almost cliffhanger like ending.
