What a truly despicable character Billy Langdon turns out to be, he’d take your last penny quick as look at you. He treats his wife Ellen and daughters in the same way. A bully always picks on them less able to fight back, he doesn’t count on Ellen turning. When she decides she’s had enough after finding out some of Billy’s secrets he starts to lose the thins that matters most to him.
It’s such a great read, keeps you glued till the last page. My favourite character was Tishy.
A lovely heart-warming saga with wonderful characters that I would love to see more of in the future.
The people of Lancashire called him Billy London, although that wasn't his real name. But he came from London's East End and settled in the North, a mean, dark, secretive man who was interested in lining his own pockets at the expense of those around him - especially his wife and daughters. Ellen, his wife, bore with him for years, until she found her children threatened.
Billy London was quite an evil man. Why the women in his life put up with him, I'll never know. This story will mess with our emotions. There's some great and strong women characters who weren't afraid to stand up to Billy. During WWII four half-sisters live in Billy's home and must abide by his rules. Filled with twists, this well written story will keep you entertained throughout.
I would like to thank #NetGalley, #RandonHouseUK #TransworldPublishers and the author #RuthHamilton for my ARC of #BillyLondonsGirls in exchange for an honest review.
Great book full of twists and turns. Some very strong female characters that fight a long battle at all of the travesty and nastiness that is thrown at them.
Set in Lancashire during WW2 4 half-sisters come together to live under Billy London's home and rules. Billy is a nasty character full of evil and violence.
He makes their lives and that of their mother's hell but will they pull through.....
Well written with good descriptions and some brave likeable characters.
Thank you, NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book x
Really good book family saga highs and lows a real page turner. Not too intense a nice author writing a lot like catherine Cookson style
I liked the plot although along with the characters.
A very brave person to go through what she went through with the awful man Billy London.
Very much like a Catherine Cookson saga. The book was full of plots there was tears joy love and sadness very enjoyable if you enjoy war time stories.
Really great story of life in the London streets - Billy London is the ultimate villain. But his girls get on with their lives despite him. all comes to a thrilling ending.
A good story of family life in Lancashire, but with many things that are not seen, everything happens
behind closed doors but the tables turn. the feeble wife is strong and takes over home work and providing
a good future for her family. This book it hard to put down you need to know WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I have not read anything from this author for ages and I am kicking myself. I really enjoyed this, well written with absolutely great characters and also attention to detail. Loved it.
Heartwarming, family saga. Full of interesting and diverse characters, especially the females, who struggle to overcome all that is thrown at them. A good read.
