I've read the Christmas books that Heidi Swain had previously written and enjoyed them, so when I got the opportunity to recieve an earc audiobook for it, I was happy to take it.
The story was a nice, easygoing story following Lizzie, who is trying to find herself again after a rather abrupt break up.
Complete with a love triangle (which I enjoy) and baking, it was an enjoyable book to read in the nice weather.
Don't get me wrong, it's not going to be a book I'll be raving about, but it was a perfect pallate cleanser, and will be an author I'd be happy to return to.
*thank you to netgalley and Simon and Schuster for the audiobook to review*
I initially wanted to listen to this as an audiobook but I couldn’t get the NetGalley shelf to work so I managed to get a hold of a digital copy and read it instead. I can’t comment from an audiobook point of view.
I’ve always been a fan of Heidi Swain and this book has again been an excellent read. It was an easy book to become absorbed in and time flew by without realising. Easy to follow and all from one point of view. An excellent summer read
What a great book this is. The narrator was so easy to listen to and she did an amazing job as the character of Lizzie Dixon. I listened to this whilst I was working and it made my day fly by.
Lizzie has just had her heartbroken and has no other option but to return to her home town. Not sure as what she really wants to do with her life she helps her friend Jemma with Cherry Tree Cafe. Finally realising her potential with her sewing expertise, Lizzie now knows what she wants to do. Unfortunately, all is not plain sailing for her. I really felt for Lizzie and what she was going through. She is a strong woman and if you had a friend like her you wouldn't want to let her go.
I will definitely be on the lookout for more books by Heidi Swan to listen to and I highly recommend this you will love it!
Small town girl falls in love with a high profile guy, who ends up dumping her as he did with his previous girlfriend and later gets back to said girlfriend. A new life is created in her home town with her school crush and friends. The love triangle was predictable, but it’s a good read! She builds her bridges with friends and family and is a success. It is a charming little story!
This was a lovely book to listen to. I loved the narrator and the story was easy to follow, I listen while I am driving so occasionally I lose the thread for a minute or two but with this book it didn't matter. I liked the characters - especially the little girl and it was at the right pace. I think with the audiobook you feel like you know the characters as a different dimension.
I liked the storyline of this book a lot but feel maybe having both male and female narrators may have been better as at times found it confusing who was who.
I love Heidi Swain's work and this didn't disappoint even though it was the first audiobook of hers I've listened to.
Friends, love, humour with a crafting cafe thrown in. What's not to love xx
This is absolutely perfect! The narration is sublime and I adore the story. The Cherry Tree Cafe is one of my all time favourite books from one of my absolute favourite authors and this version is delicious!
I enjoyed the The Cherry Tree Cafe in audiobook very much. The narrator was very good and I thought she was well suited to the story.
I enjoyed learning about Lizzie (the main character) and Jemma’s friendship - it seemed very authentic and I wondered if Heidi had based it on someone she knew. It was a lovely, engaging listen and was a nice escape from daily life. I listened while doing some painting in the house and this really helped the time fly past.
It’s my first book of Heidi’s and I will purchase others. Recommended for a bit of escapism with a lovely happy ending.
Thanks to Simon & Schuster Audio, NetGalley and the author for ab advance copy of this Audiobook.
This was a lovely easy listen. Heidi Swain does a really good job at making you want to come back and keep on listening. I gave it 4 stars as I don’t think I’d have been as invested if I was reading the book instead of listening but it was a really nice read. The main character frustrated me a little, deciding on whether she would bounce back to someone who left her but I came round to her more as she found her confidence.
I would recommend this audiobook to anyone looking for an easy chick flick!
A very gentle light hearted easy to listen to story from the main character Liz’s point of view. All told from her side so very easy to follow. The narration was very good- clear and a nice voice.
I’ve read The Cherry Tree Cafe before so I knew I loved the story and writing, so I thought I would give this a go as my first audiobook for Netgalley, I thought it would be a nice change to listen to a book whilst I work than music, because you can’t get enough books in right ? I absolutely loved this I thought the narrator was wonderful, she really added something extra to the story and I thought she brought the humour out even more, I think I enjoyed it more this time around and I have to say because the narrator was so likeable. She made me forget I was listening, just like you forget you are reading. A great addition to my new routine and I’ll definitely be looking for more audiobooks by the author and narrator
A finding yourself type story with a dash of romance. Not much happening through the book but it was enjoyable enough, I enjoyed the crafts element as that was something I could relate to. The men in this romance were either boring, smarmy, untrustworthy and all were a little flat, I couldn’t say I was particularly hoping they would be “the one”. However, this story was strong on the finding who you were, what you wanted and how to be happy with the choices you make.
I recieved a free audiobook version of the book from Simon & Schuster via Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own and given freely.
So i enjoyed this audio it was cute but i expected it to be funnier than it was... There wasn't anyting remotely funny about it, and now I'm thinking about it I'm not sure if there was supposed to be any humour. But nevermind.
So I wasn't a huge fan of the characters, the best one was probably Ellie... Honestly there were so many lies and so much deceit throughout the book i found it hard pressed to aftuallt find anything remotely likeable about anyone...
I do feel sympathy for Lizzie, she's been dealt a shitty hand on her birthday, i think she made the right decision to go home...
But i wasn't a huge fan of her best friend, throughout the book she tried to push Lizzie towards Ben and refused to tell her anything she should have... All she really had to say was that she needed to make Ben tell her the truth no matter what... But also by the sounds of it everyone knew about Ben and Natasha so it wasn't only his secret, they all keot it from her, and yet still kept pushing her at him...
I diidn't blame Lizzi for running to London from anger and betrayal, i probably would have done the same.
I thought Ben should have explained a hell of a lot earlier than he did... He should have not randomly disappeared to Spain but then again they weren't really friends...
I did wonder if Jay was just hitting her up for money, it seemed odd otherwise why he'd show up to a 'date' with a portfolio... And then... I wondered if i was wrong and then i was proved right... There was just something about him that rubbed me the wrong way.
I wasn't a fan of the ending... He says he loves her and the end.... Nothing from her... Then it skips two months of whay could have been fun date stories to an epilogue where they aren't even around each other much... It was totally anti-climactic.
Overally I was unimpressed, thwre was hardly anything between Ben and Lizzie and yet they both didn't even think about each other whislt being in othwr relationships and suddenly they're in love and everything is fine and forgiven... Maybe thats just me being cynical... I don't know.
But I'm not opposed to trying more books by the author... Just maybe in book format rather than audiobooks
Absolutely loved this! ❤️ Love all of Heidi's books and this was my first experience of an audio book. I found it great and found I got more of the story than when reading it. Highly recommended
An engaging tale of love, heartbreak, friendship and family - and of course sewing. An enjoyable listen although I did find myself a little frustrated with some of the silly misunderstandings but I guess if you shout at a character the book has definitely won you over! Ben’s reveal was a total shock. A most enjoyable afternoon spent in the world of Lizzie and her friends.
This is the first audio book I have listened to, and so the first I have reviewed.
I enjoyed the story and found the narrator easy to listen to and interesting.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for my advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review 📚
The Cherry Tree Cafe is a lovely love story.
The narrator is great, sounds very Bridget Jones which really helps bring across the mess that is Lizzies love life!
Not only does Lizzie have terrible taste in men, she also has terrible taste in friends. Jemma and her husband, who are Lizzie's "friends" and then business partners with she invests in their business to help them but she is sadly repaid with lies and plotting. Towards the end they become quite annoying and frustrating - but the story line is well written and all leads to and ending which makes sense.
Lizzie is easy to relate to and a fun character to read about.
Thank you NetGalley and publishers for the ARC audiobook.
Great audio book, well read. Baking, crafting with a dose of romance, bit frustrating in places but sorted out in the end. Perfect read for a rainy day.
Thank you to netgallery and Simon and schuster audio uk for giving this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
To be honest I really don’t fancy audiobooks. I haven’t tried them so I have no experience with them. So going in, I really didn’t expect much but this audiobook blew my expectations away. I really loved The Cherry Tree cafe by Heidi swain. Thank you for doing justice to this book. It was lovely. I would want to Listen to more audiobooks from this author and publishers because I was impressed. The audio book narration was the selling point. I really loved it .
Listening to The Cherry Tree Cafe was brilliant, it allowed me to multi-task although more often than not I found my attention being drawn solely to Heidi Swains delicious story!
The Cherry Tree Cafe audio book is by a sole narrator. It's clear that Karen Cass has narrated plenty of audio books as her tone and intonation are well polished and she very easy to listen too.
The whole story is full of Heidi Swains sparkle, she never fails to deliver a wonderfully cosy read. It's a delightful and enjoyable escape to Wynbridge, full of lovable (except Giles!) characters and friendly village life.
The friendship between Lizzie and Jemma feels real and the banter between them all adds a lot of laughs to the already cosy treat of a story.
Lizzie's journey to self realisation and a happy ending is constantly hampered by an interfering mother, an exasperating love interest and at times herself(!) but she always has her straight talking dad and loyal best friend to ground her.
A thoroughly wonderful listen.
