I tried to read this book multiple times and really struggled. I found myself flipping and skimming which is not what I want in a thriller. The premise was great but something just didn’t work for me.

this was a great supernatural mystery, the characters were great and they really felt like real people. I could understand what was happening and enjoyed reading this book.

The idea of this book, Mime, was an interesting one... However, I found it quite difficult to get into at parts as it slowed down in pace and often times nothing happened. Unfortunately, this is not a book for me.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the eARC. All opinions are my own.

I don’t often turn to horror fiction but I have read a few in the past like The Ritual and the odd Stephen King. This was definitely more spooky than anything, which I think I enjoy more, it makes it easier to read when home alone!

Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this book. I loved the concept of this book, however I struggled to get into it. It felt like I was starting two books into a series and needed to read the first one to understand what was going on. Sadly I only managed 20% of the book before admitting defeat.

It’s been ages since I read a good horror novel. The last one that blew my mind was The Ritual when I listened to the audiobook last year. I wanted to read this when I read the blurb. It sounded like a fantastic book, something I could really get stuck into and the kind of horror fiction I enjoy a lot; demons and supernatural creepiness. I cannot fault this book. It’s a fantastic read. The book reminds me a lot of The Dresden Files or Alone in the Dark. Elliot is a great character, driven to shine a light on the supernatural after his brother was killed by something not of this earth. He ruins his career was decent journalist to run an occult newspaper and is something of a joke to his former colleagues but he refuses to look away from the horrors he now knows exist. Sam is great as well; I loved the relationship between them both. This is a long book but it didn’t feel like it because I was so riveted by what I was reading. This might be the first in a series. I hope so. I can’t wait to read what the author comes up with next.

Overall this book, following a group of demon-hunters as they chase a mime artist demon who can create invisible weapons out of thin air, is a fun read with a fairly satisfying ending that ties in most of the plot points. The idea of invisible weapons is an interesting one, and it was fun to imagine the scene as it was playing out. Fantasy readers who enjoy a bit of gore will love this, I'm sure. However, parts of the book seemed to drag - what is, in essence, a one-track plot got lost inside irrelevant sub-plots that came across as slightly forced. For example, the budding romance between the two main characters added nothing to the plot, and in fact got in the way of the demon-hunting at times. Furthermore, there seemed to be one - or two - too many 'failed attempts'; after a while, there are only so many ways they can approach killing a demon before it gets repetitive. Nevertheless, if you're looking for a fun, slightly gruesome, but on the whole easy read, this might be for you.

A demonic mime who's creations are real ... What else can I say? Seriously though this book wasn't bad at all. It was well written and fun. If you're looking for a quick read with lots of gore, suspense, and subtext you could find a lot worse then Mime. Enjoy!
