I really enjoyed this book! It is the first book I’ve ever read from Katie Reus and I’m already a fan!
I will definitely read her other books!
Rhys, a dragon shifter awakes from his slumber, his main goal is to get peace by getting revenge against a witch that killed his sister. He despises all witches. But little did he know that he will have to work together with a witch to have a chance at his revenge.
The witch Dallas, has always wanted to help people. She helps the King by growing food for the people with her powers. With her pet dragon at her side, she’s living a nice and calm life, until a dragon shifter crashes into it.
They will have to work together to protect the people, and for him to get his revenge. During their partnership they get thrown into a case where people are going missing. Rhys and Dallas work together to figure out who’s behind these missing cases and that makes them a target.
An amazing, romantic and adventurous book! I’m a fan of this author after reading this book!
3.75*
I do love dragons.
In this one Rhys is desperately searching for the witch that drained and killed his sister.
He feels drawn to New Orleans. When he first meets Dallas he fights the attraction he feels. After all she’s a witch. He soon realises she’s nothing like the dark witch he’s searching for. But can he rise above centuries of hate.
This is another good read. I love all the characters and the world that’s been created. And don’t get me started on the cutie that is Willow.
By only real problem. And this is a pet hate of mine. It just annoys me when one characters sits on something. They know it’s going to come out and yet they push it back. For a large part of the book I was dreading the repercussions of this.
But like I said it’s an enjoyable read and I can’t wait for the next one.
I voluntarily read a review copy kindly provided by NetGalley.
A dragon. A witch and New Orleans a unbeatable combination. Oh and a adorable Baby Dragon!!
Rhys has been in hibernation for thousands of years when he wakes up all he can think about is revenge.
Dallas has been called to the city to help rebuild by the alpha of New Orleans.
She meets the grumpy, grouchy over protective dragon and sparks fly.
Great world building and likable characters make this a great edition to this series.
Willow the baby dragon stole the show!!
King and Aurora need there own book soon. Just sayin!!

Rhys is still hunting for his sisters killer millennia after the event. His hibernation over, he's determined to find the witch that ruined his family and he lands in New Orleans.
Dallas loves her land and her little farmers co-op. They have what they need and her magic manages to give the land a little boost. Her former coven was turning to black magic more and more and she left just as quickly as she could but now that King is assisting Rhys with the search of the witch he's looking for, her new found anonymity and peace is going to be shot to bits!
The perfect mate for a dragon that hates witches was obviously going to be a Witch! However, Dallas and Rhys have a lot of baggage they tote around and both of them manage to get in their own way at times. I could understand why Dallas kept her "little" family secret under wraps. Rhys was the perfect mix of Alpha male and sensitive lover. Dallas may be a little timid compared to some but she had a spine of steel when her little put together family is threatened.
One specific little dragonling is just soooo cute! We need more of her!
There is plenty going on storywise, both within the book and the overall story arc of the series. Lots of visitors from previous books and series to keep you entertained. That lion shifter is going to get a right hook to the mouth from someone soon!
This book was immensely enjoyable! Rhys has that hard rough and tumble alpha vibe. Bent only on revenge he finds his fate. Dallas is everything kind, nice and powerful. Their story is very well written and the prose flows fast throughout. I highly recommend this book.
If this book is anything to go by, I truly regret having missed out on the first book in this series, because book 2, Ancient Enemy has got to be one of my favourite shifter books. It had just the right amount of action, romance and supernatural mojo to make it intriguing and addictive, add in a storyline that I won’t easily forget. A dragon shifter, a witch, and an adorable baby dragon all make for a sweet, fun and enthralling read. Not too much angst, wonderful easygoing characters with a little enemies to lovers in the mix, as Rhys hates witches, and Dallas is a witch. That said it doesn’t take Rhys long to learn that she’s nothing like the witch who murdered his sister. He’s up front with Dallas, making sure she knows he’s out for revenge, and together they battle the supernatural forces of evil that threaten to take over the world, one coven at a time. I loved it, and on that note, I’d like to thank NetGalley and KR Press for giving me the opportunity to review an early copy of this book.
Ancient Enemy focuses on Rhys, a recently awakened ancient dragon-shifter who is searching for his sister’s killer, a witch Rhys believes is in New Orleans. Dallas, a witch who is tasked with helping to rebuild the gardens and food sources in New Orleans, might be able to help Rhys find the witch that he’s hunting. But Rhys’s mission is sidetracked when King, the Alpha and leader of New Orleans, sends the pair to investigate missing vampires and humans.
When Dallas is called to New Orleans to help rebuild the city, her main concern is protecting her pet dragon. She likes her peaceful existence on her farm but is selfless and eager to help others. She doesn’t plan on helping to solve a case that might involve witches, nor does she expect to have feelings for the hunky dragon-shifter who has sworn to protect her. What will Dallas do when the case, and Rhys’s mission, point toward someone from Dallas’ past?
This is the second book in the Ancients Rising series, and it is just as action-packed and chemistry-laden as the first. With well-developed characters and an interesting premise, Ancient Enemy gripped me from the start.
Dallas and Rhys are both dynamically developed characters. Dallas is a powerful witch who has been a victim of prejudice her entire life. Witches are looked down upon by other paranormals, so she is used to keeping her distance from others. However, once in New Orleans, she finds herself surrounded by paranormals that are vastly different than she expects. Dallas is treated with respect and kindness, and it is great to see her slowly let down her defenses, especially with Rhys.
Rhys begins the story hate-filled and revenge-fueled. Rhys blames himself for the death of his beloved sister, and his only desire is to kill the witch who murdered her. However, as he spends time with Dallas and her adorable pet dragon Willow, he changes. He sees a future for himself, where before he only saw death.
I love that Rhys and Dallas give each other hope and show each other that they have a connection and a future worth fighting for. Their connection is strong, even though they both try to fight it, and their slow-building romance is fantastic! Furthermore, the depth of feelings that Rhys shows for Dallas is positively swoon-worthy! Rhys is adorably sweet when he plays with Willow, and his caring and protective nature when he takes care of Willow and Dallas transforms his broody personality.
We also get to see the sibling bond between Rhys, Cody, and Lachlan, which is fantastic. Though they haven’t been together in centuries, their connection is clear and lovely. I also love that, though these characters have strong sibling relationships, they don’t discount the wonderful family-like friendships that they have. They value their relationships and remain loyal to those that are important to them. It reminded me of the strong connection between Star, Aurora, and the rest of Star’s pack in the last book.
By the way, we do see Star, Aurora, and the crew in this story as well. It’s great to see Aurora gaining confidence and strength, and her slow-building relationship with King is amazing! I love that he has such deep feelings for her but holds back until she is ready. He’s more interested in her well-being than his own happiness and desires, and I love that! I’m totally rooting for this couple and hoping that their love story continues in the next book!
And then there’s Willow, Dallas’ lovable and endearing dragon. I adored her! She has a spunky personality that endears her to everyone, and her playful, sweet personality breaks the societal prejudices surrounding egg-hatched dragons. I love that she and Dallas are the opposite of what people expect, and they both, through their kindness and selflessness, show others that their prejudices are misguided.
In addition to all of the well-developed characters, the story is also dynamic. It’s a world where supernatural beings don’t hide. Recently exposed to the human world, they are adjusting to a new normal and attempting to rebuild the world after an epic battle brought much destruction. I like that in Ancient Protector, we see the destruction and break-down of the old world, the world where supernaturals had to hide who they were, and in this book, we see the aftermath and rebuilding of society. The way that this propels the plot and develops the characters while continually building an immersive supernatural world is impressive.
I highly recommend Ancient Enemy to readers that like shifter romances with unique characters and a fantastic romance. Plus, there are dragons!! Though this is the second book in the Ancients Rising series, it can be read as a standalone.
Ancient Enemy is book 2 in this series and it's the story of Rhys and Dallas. I have to say, I am in love with Katie Reus's shifter books, especially dragons. Paranormal romance is one if my favorite genres and Katie never disappoints. Rhys is alpha to his core, I loved him and Dallas. Dallas has had a lot of hate because of her kind, and I sympathized with her. I need more of these sexy dragons and the women they love and cherish. #AncientEnemy #ParanormalRomance
Rhys is an ancient dragon who has been in hibernation for thousands of years. He has recently awakened and is searching for the witch that killed his sister. Rhys hates witches and believes they are all evil. Until he meets Dallas and must reevaluate his beliefs. Dallas is a witch with a pet dragon. She has a farm and grows food to supply the community. She is asked to come to New Orleans to help finds places for gardens to help after The Fall. While there, vampires and humans are being kidnapped and Dallas and Rhys hunt for them. Rhys is told that the witch he is looking for is the same one kidnapping people. Can they find the witches before anymore more people disappear and find the witch responsible for Rhys’s sisters death?
This is my very favorite story. I freaking loved it. Dragons, vampires, secrets, and sex. I loved Willow, the baby pet dragon. Humor and suspense. I read this within a couple of hours. Characters who are charming and strong.

Another yummy dragon shifter comes out of hibernation. Rhys is Lachlan's brother (Ancient Protector) and is looking for their sister's killer. Dallas is a witch with information he needs to find the killer. Lots of other peeps from the previous book, and a real baby dragon help out along the way. I really like how we knew her secret and weren't left wondering the whole book what it was. Lots of drama, action and sexy times along the way plus peeks into King and Aurora's relationship.
I'm guessing from the title of the next one that it's not going to be King and Aurora's story, but Rhys' friend Mikael (who we meet in the first book and his "mate" Avery).
