It was so fast paced. Loved it!!!!!!!
Kept me on my toes. Sending my love to the author. <3.
If you like a psychological thriller with a brilliant twist, this book will not disappoint!
The story is told in two timelines, and follows Amelia and her family from their visit to Drummingdale House for her mother’s final holiday, to the present day a year later.
I would not recommend reading this alone at night - It'll definitely keep you awake! It's a brilliant story though, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves a family-led thriller, packed with twists and turns.
This is a fast paced book with lots of twists and turns
The setting was so atmospheric. There is a gothic element to the storytelling.
The ending was a big surprise.
Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.
This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.
Exciting book to read. I couldn’t put it down once I started it. It was a great plot the book was very well written and flowed well. Definitely a winner
A mystery read, a missing girl, twists and turns galore. This makes for a grabbing read that keeps you guessing until the end.
I listened to the audiobook and flew through this. I couldn't put this down. I was intrigued to find out what happened to Lark.
Throughout the book I kept jumping between a couple of possible outcomes to the mystery. In the end I was wrong on both counts.
The reveal of what happened present day. I just didn't think they were behind it or the reason and how it connected to the past.
Then when it came to Lark I thought the opposite of what the reveal actually ended up being.
This book kept me gripped throughout. From the setting in an isolated cottage. To the two storylines connecting in some way.
3.5/5
Gripping murder mystery although I found
parts of it unbelievable and some of the characters’ dialogue unlikely at times. . Remembering which timeline each chapter was in was at times confusing with little to differentiate between past and present but it was atmospheric with a twisted and suspenseful plot.
Terrific and unpredictable twist at the very end.
Overall a good read.
Thanks to Netgalley
Unfortunately I have tried multiple times to complete this book but have just not been able to get into it. I dont think there is a particular reason, it's just not for me.
I seem to be in the minority here but personally I found the way this was written to be very confusing and as such I didn't really enjoy it.
Wicked suspense thriller. Has you hooked right from the beginning. It’s fast paced. Well written. Definitely recommend this one
Her sister vanished along with her mother’s boyfriend during a family holiday. Her mother passed away soon after from cancer. When Amelia decides to return to Drummondale House with her father and brother on the one year anniversary since her sister and her mother’s boyfriend went missing, she was hoping to find answers. What she got was far more than she ever expected in her wildest dreams.
Thank you Netgalley, Amanda Brittany, and HQ for the opportunity to read and review this spine tingling thriller. I seriously had a hard time putting this one down! This book was very well written with lots of twists and turns, and held my attention throughout. This was a page turner for sure and the ending? I did not see that coming at all! If you are looking for a gripping thriller, I would definitely suggest that you pick this one up! I rate this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
This is my first book to read by Amanda Brittany, but definitely won't be my last. This suspenseful had me on the edge of my seat! Amelia is plunged into a game of cat and mouse while trying to unravel the mystery of her sister's disappearance. The journey leads her down dangerous paths of murder and betrayal. She is forced to question who to trust and who she really knows in this twisty tale with an ending I never saw coming. Amelia searches for answers and struggles to survive the elusive killer that holds her fate. This is a page turner from beginning to end!
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.
Great thriller that kept me turning the pages. Great story, great writing and characters. Really enjoyable and would read this author again.
This was really good.
It kept me interested right from the start and the twist at the end was completely unexpected!
Told in two timelines, it follows Amelia and her family from their stay at Drummingdale House for her mother’s final holiday, to the present day a year later, taking in all the tragic events along the way.
Thoroughly recommend this book.
I Lie In Wait is a mystery/thriller book that shows a family and a family friend both struggling with what happened a year ago when one of the teenage girls went missing as well as reeling from a mom who passed away due to cancer. The family goes back to the cottage/resort that the teenager went missing from a year later to try and see if they can figure out what happened to her and if they can find any new clothes. Alongside this, we get to learn more about the main character Amelia's family, and why she didn't realize anything was happening with her much younger sister last year.
Each of the family members has dealt with the loss and grief of both the missing sister and the mom having passed away differently. We see this really show when they all get to the cottage/resort and how they all feel about being back there and what old feelings it brings up.
Overall this book kept me confused the whole time and I did not figure out who it was until right before it was revealed. The author did an amazing job of keeping me confused on who it was that was doing everything while also moving the other storylines along and showing both the present day and a year ago in detail. It was easy to switch back and forth between the two.
I enjoyed as well getting to see things from the other's perspective as it should a slightly different view of what was happening both a year ago and now. While Amelia was the main character we do get to see things from a couple of other people's perspectives.
The last 30% of this book goes extremely fast because all of the pieces of what was happening then and now start coming together and you can see the bigger picture of everything. I couldn't finish this book fast enough to figure out who had done it and why. I look forward to reading more by this author in the future.
I did enjoy this book, felt it got a bit lost towards the middle but then the end came and the twist was great.
A very tense book that will have you looking over your shoulder! The story starts well and continues to grip you whilst making you want to read on as you will be desperate to know what is going to happen and more importantly why. 4/5. Can’t wait to read more by this author.
Fast paced thriller set in a snow bound Scotland. Very cleverly devised with an unexpected twist at the end.
A great read, a twisty psychological thriller which kept me gripped until the end! Kept me on my toes guessing and I was shocked by the ending.
