Gripped from the beginning.. what you initially think is the dilemma in the story just keeps getting more complicated with the introduction of characters who are not always what they seem.
It is hard to know who to believe. Eventually when all is revealed it came as a huge shock. Great book
This is a well paced and engaging book
It is well written and had me hooked from the beginning
This book was filled with nail biting twists
A very quick thriller to read
A very gripping read and one that kept me hooked. Really enjoyed the twists near the end. Very clever. Looking forward to reading more from the author.
Great plot to get yourself lost in. This book has everything. A real fast paced thriller. Will get your heart racing on more than one occasion. Very well written. Highly recommend this book To all
i've loved every one of julie's books and this is no exception! believable characters and a gripping plot make for a really enjoyable read, i would give it 10 stars if i could.
So my first book by Julie Corbin was great and I need to catch up on this author! Anna is a well respected dedicated school nurse. Tori is a troubled student who Anna looks out for during the school day. Anna is astounded, along with the school community, when Tori accuses Anna of assault by slapping her. A nightmare for any teacher/school staff, right? Wait, next Tori is killed. Anna is determined to clear her name and find out who the killer is. Twists, turns and surprises as once a lie happens, it spreads and feeds off itself. Excellent!
This was a thrilling thriller read. Two people at a school throw allegations about each around, and every page turned I didn't know who to believe and who not! This was a great read and I can't wait to read some more by this talented author.

Woah this one is packed with suspense and twists so much that you can’t breathe 😂 who do you believe, I thought to be honest I believed one then the other, then the other, and back again, I seriously couldn’t decide to be honest and the author didn’t help haha! Really gripping read and I seriously couldn’t put it down, sheer brilliance and a great story and characters, 5 stars all day long, cant wait to read more from Julie, love all her stuff and this one didn’t disappoint, a masterpiece!
This book was extremely engrossing and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The start of the book begins with all of the drama and I was hooked. It was a real page turner.
The book was full of clues throughout and I did guess the ending.
The clues were given throughout the book and I found that I guessed it correctly about 50% of the way through.
However, it still made a great read.
A fantastic Psychological thriller that captured my attention from the start.
Tensions rise when a Nurse and a school pupil begin to throw allegations back and forth, however the truth is far from straightforward.
The story is packed with suspense and has you sat on the edge of your seat as the story begins to unfold.
Brilliantly written, well constructed, and an absolute page turner.
This was so exciting, a case of he said, she said. A student, Victoria, accused nurse Anna of hitting her. Then the same student is found dead. What followed was a trail of lies and shadows hidden in the secrets of the hearts.
My first book by author Julie Corbin, this was one twisted thriller showing me the poison that can bubble insidiously in our minds. There was one fact which remained staunchly fixed while reading the book. A truth I was sure of. Did it come true? Yes, it did.
The book was a thrilling ride where what I thought I knew was exactly what the author made it unknown. The characters were completely unlikable, though that didn’t stop me from enjoying the book as I wanted to know how much the author would prod them.
It was exciting to know the limits of tolerance. I didn’t like the hints of violence shown by the daughter in one scene as it felt too much. Human psyche and snap of the brain when crossed were well portrayed.
The twists were galore, the need to hide the secrets aplenty, the past influencing the present, and the lies from a teen made this a super-enjoyable book.
Thanks to Netgalley for the preview of this book I finally got a chance to read it & really enjoyed it. Its very well written & kept me guessing as to who was telling the truth until the last moment.
Tori Carmichael is a student at Bishopglen, a private school located in the scenic Glaswegian suburbs. She is a very troubled young woman still reeling from her parents divorce. Anna Pierce is head of the medical unit at the school, highly respected, and currently mentoring Tori. She is accused of hitting Tori and her reaction is pure disbelief as Tori is known for exaggeration and distorting the truth. When Tori is found dead, suspicion quickly spreads and Anna endeavours to clear her name...
A Lie For A Lie by Julie Corbin was very quickly paced, highly suspenseful and well plotted. With many believable characters I was fully invested in the story and there was never a dull moment! Overall, a marvellous standalone psychological thriller that really packs a punch.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Hodder and Stoughton via NetGalley and this is my own unbiased opinion.
Anna the mother of two and a nurse at the local school has a very good reputation as being professional and empathetic as well. When she is charged with hitting a pupil and when subsequently the pupil is found dead the investigation turns ugly with a town divided as to whether Anna is guilty not just of abuse, but of murder.
The implications reach far and wide and little by little stories emerge from the part and role played by both of Anna's children in the story as well as her husband and then it moves on to other people who surround Anna. People whom she has had a loving relationship, people whom she has entrusted her own children to and whom she cannot believe would ever let her down.
Like stories of a psychological suspense nature, this story too weaves around what one does not actually see, envisage or imagine about so that the final outcome is always riveting.
I had a hard time getting into this book and felt that the pace was slow and the character development was lacking. It centers on Anna, who is a nurse at a boarding school with a clean record when she is suddenly accused of hitting a current student named Tori (who is known for telling lies). Anna is suspended while the school and police investigate, and in the meantime, Tori is killed by a fall down the stairs. Was this an unfortunate accident or was she pushed? The book is primarily told from Anna's POV (though narrated in the 3rd person) with some diary entries from Tori intermingled.
I enjoyed the concept of this book and the ending did come as a surprise, but I just had trouble getting into it. The relationship between Anna and her husband seemed off and I didn't feel that I had enough background to understand why some of the conversations that happened were framed that way. I also didn't get a good sense into the relationship between Anna and her best friend Lynn. Lastly, Anna made some decisions that I didn't think a real person would actually make, which just made her feel a bit two-dimensional to me.
Though I didn't love this book, I did think the premise was good and the end had a cool twist. I see others have really enjoyed this book but it just wasn't super memorable to me. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Anna is a well respected nurse at a boarding school and is very well thought of, so when she is accused of hitting a troubled pupil, the ramifications are immense. Anna is determined to clear her name, but before she can the pupil is found dead in suspicious circumstances. As Anna fights to clear her name, it is hard to tell who is lieing and who is telling the truth....
This was a good read and certainly picked up pace towards the end, but it didnt quite gel for me as I found most of the characters quite unlikeable.
Thank you to Netgalley and Hodder&Stoughton for the arc of this book by Julie Corbin.
4 star read- This was a well written and structured book which flowed amazingly, you have great talent Julie Corbin, It had me wanting more as to why it was such a page turner so thank you for this, I really enjoyed reading this, I recommend to anyone. The story is told from the POV of Anna, with diary entries from Tori and social media posts. As this follows Anna whom is a nurse at a boarding school who then gets allegations against her from Pupil Tori it all spins from there!
⭐⭐⭐⭐
We all tell lies, some small, some big, some dangerous. When well- respected and trusted school nurse Anna Evans is accused of hitting her fifteen-year-old mentee, Tori, the community responds with disbelief and shock. Surely Tori is lying, as she has been known to do before. Anna is the epitome of what a loving, caring nurse should be. Nonetheless, she is put on leave until the charges are fully investigated. Then Tori is murdered, pushed down a flight of stairs in her home. The story is told mainly from Anna’s point of view, with journal entries from Tori interspersed. There are lots of twists and turns in the novel, and it was difficult, to tell the truth from the lie. It also shows the ramifications of an accusation on a person’s life and how it impacts everyone around the accused. I did not expect the ending, which is a good thing!
Firstly a big thank you to the publishers for my copy to read on netgalley . This is a new author for me and look forward to reading more from her.
I whizzed through this excellent haunting psychological thriller.
This had me hooked straight away. Who is telling the truth? Who is hiding secrets?
As the pages turn we realise people are not who they say they are.
Fantastically written and plotted. Lots of twists and turns this is a excellent and exciting book.
