Absolutely loved every minute of this book! It was an easy, enjoyable read. I thoroughly enjoyed the ending and think it is what everyone was hoping for. This is another new favourite author added to my list! It is a light hearted, fun read that is definitely a pick me up kind of book.
This was such a fun read. I’ve come to really enjoy Portia MacIntosh’s books. This is another enjoyable romance featuring a working girl in London. She has a demanding boss who is really getting on her nerves with all he demands of her including having her dismiss his stable of girlfriends. She finally gets the opportunity to leave the job and get a job that will involve more of her skills and hoped-for career opportunities. She doesn’t want to tell him that she’s leaving and ends up inviting her boss to come with her to her charming island village to stay with her family for Christmas. The book really kicks off when they get to her coastal island. What a cute place this seems like and Damien comes across like a much more likable guy.
I enjoyed every page of this book and look forward to more romances from MacIntosh.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.
Sadie works for THE Damian Banks, a portrait photographer of critical acclaim. By works for, we mean runs his personal life. It wasn't necessarily her plan in life, but truly the man couldn't function without her. The one bright side to her job, which involves her breaking up with Damian's flings of the week for him, is her desk mate Adam. They exchange post it notes daily complaining about the boss. After a year, she truly feels like she knows him well, but they've never met. When a job comes available for an art curator, Sadie decides it's time to leave Damian and continue her professional career. But not before Damian invites himself home with her to Christmas....
Overall this book is like Portia MacIntosh's other books, cute and easy to read. Sadie is my favorite character her, she's funny and her internal monologues are funny. I think having Damian's POV would have made him more likable as a character, though he did grow on me. It's just hard when you have to imagine what he's thinking, especially since he seems like a player. Sadie's family was the sweetest and their Christmas traditions were so hilarious! I wish my family had such intricate holiday traditions.
For fans of The Flatshare, Stuck on You is a cute rom com about love, forgiveness, and family.
**Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**
Stuck on You is about Sadie, a lover of eclectic vintage fashion with a passion for charity shops. She works as a personal assistant to a narcissistic portrait photographer called Damian. Her work entails running his personal life as much as his work life, which even includes finishing relationships for him.
Sadie's one saving grace is her friendship with Adam, the employee she shares a hot desk with. They've never met but have built up a great relationship via the post-it notes they leave for each other.
The story includes a wedding on a fort off the coast of Portsmouth involving models, influencers and serial killers, and a trip to Sadie's home at Christmas on a tidal island off the Yorkshire coast.
Stuck on You is full of likable characters. It's a fun and light-hearted book where the humour is very much tongue in cheek with a touch of innuendo. It's a good short read (about 5 hours) with a twist at the end. I feel this book should have been marketed more as a festive Christmas love story. I really enjoyed it.
Portia Macintosh is the queen of chick lit books for me. Her books are always funny, romantic and a bit of a break from reality. This book did not disappoint - it was hilarious with likeable characters and a plot with lots of twists, turns and visits to strange places. You can put it down whilst doing work and pick it up again hours later without having to flick back through the previous pages to ‘remember’ what you were reading.
Main character Sadie is in her early 30s and is such a likeable woman! She loves vintage clothing, is close to her family and we read about her comparing herself to childhood acquaintances and bumping into exes. Employed by her artist boss Damian to run his errands and dump his short term girlfriends for him, she’s looking for a change of scenery - but not before she has to spend some bonding time with him on some work (and personal) trips; there’s also the matter of the mysterious Adam who she job shares with, shares secret post-it note messages in the desk draw with, but is yet to meet. Portia obviously loves a sneaky Netflix crime documentary as much as we all do at the moment - no spoilers but Damian and Sadies surreal weekend away to shoot a wedding was my favourite part of this book.
This was just a really feel-good, entertaining book. I loved it - would recommend it to anyone 16 and over (due to mature topics) and it’s a great example of a plot that takes you to lots of different locations to keep the book vibrant.
Firstly a huge shout-out to Portia for this amazing book. I had not read Portia till this moment and what a ride. This book focuses on the world's most good natured patient and overly worked PA named Sadie who has the worst (my thoughts) boss artist Damian Banks. Damian Banks has her doing the weird tasks ever (not saying what so not to drop spoilers). Sadie seeks solace in the post it notes she exchanges with the mysterious Adam who eventually ends up ghosting her when she decides to take another job . Something happens at Christmas that changes all our minds (yep me and Sadie😂) about Damian . This book was hilarious,feel-good and a must read. Recommend it!
Stuck On You has a bit of a Sophie Kinsella-like vibe to it (but is in no way a rip off of Kinsella's work) that I really enjoyed. It was a little different than what I was expecting from the description - I was expecting more interactions through post-it between Sadie and Adam, but loved all the interactions I got between Sadie and Damian. I also was not expecting as much holiday fare, but loved that as well (I do love a good Christmas story). Once he managed to invite himself to Sadie's family Christmas there was definitely no question he was in love with her. I really enjoyed getting to see their relationship shift to something more romantic because they were both such great characters. Getting to learn more about Damian when they visit his family made me like him even more. The weakest part in the story is the argument between Damian and Sadie that leads to their estrangement - it comes out of nowhere and I just so badly wanted Sadie to tell him she hadn't brought up her new job because she didn't want to hurt him. She does this later, but I would have liked it better had they resolved the issue rather than her storming out. I am not a big fan of the break up just to make up in a grand romantic gesture later plot point. The success of the art show could have been the epilogue rather than the big reconciliation scene. I found the main characters engaging and the scenes with Sadie's family utterly charming. This is a perfect Christmas-time read for anyone who loves the season and a sweet romance story.
I loved this story. The putting of post it notes in the drawer and the chocolate bars was great. The character of Damin grew on me. It was a fab love story. It made me look at more Portia books. A brilliant feel good book
When Sadie took the position of personal assistant to Damien Banks (a top portrait photographer) she didn't think that is meant being his 'personal' assistant. Managing his day to day life from dumping girlfriends, getting his dry cleaning and waiting for deliveries. She'd hoped it was going to be so much more. Working for Damien can be demanding, to say the least, the phone calls and ridiculous demands - that leave her looking for prostitutes to a potential serial killer.
On her first day, she found a post-it note in her desk from Adam (her job share) telling her that the boss was a nightmare. From that first post-it note, they conversed back and forth. Sharing jokes and updates, slowly she found herself looking forward to the notes and dreaming of running off into the sunset with Adam. However, after telling Adam that she has a new job and that she'd like to meet, he ghosts her. Good job that Damien has practically invited himself for Christmas at her parents' house to keep her mind occupied.
A laugh out loud rom-com with a feel of The Flatshare and Johnny Be Good, plus the added bonus of a big dollop of Christmas festivities too.
Sadie works tirelessly for her artist boss, Damian, but she finds herself doing everything for him and it was not the role she had signed up for. She desperately wants to find herself another job that will afford her some time for a social (and even love) life.
I loved this read. It was so warm-hearted and funny. Plus is was based at Christmas time for added brownie points from me.
I really enjoyed the narrative and how down to earth the main character Sadie is. Her inner monologue was hilarious and painfully accurate.
I have read this author before, so was excited to receive an arc for Stuck on You.
The synopsis sounded interesting, although it reminded me slightly of the book ‘The Flat Share’. However, once I started reading the book the focus wasn’t really on the notes, and there were no other similarities to the other book.
I predicted the outcome of the story at 14% into the story, which was a bit annoying, but it’s romcom, and predictable storylines and endings are to be expected.
I liked the characters and liked the chemistry. The family Christmas scenes were fun and something different.
I’m slightly confused at the need to include the potential serial killer...that part of the book seems a bit misplaced (?) The only real relevance of it is the Swiss Army knife??
Overall, I enjoyed this book and would recommend to friends as a lighthearted read. Thank you NetGalley and publisher for my advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review 📚
What a surprisingly charming and fun book. I loved the banter and interaction between Sadie and Damien. And of course Sadie's family traditions and home town were hilarious. It makes me want to schedule a visit. Thank you #NetGalley for introducing me to another fabulous author.
Sadie's boss, Damien, might be a super famous and rich photographer, adored by the art world, but he is a NIGHTMARE to work for. The consolation for Sadie are the post-it notes she leaves in her shared desk with Adam which really get her through her work days.
This book just really didn't do it for me. It was extremely predictable and didn't give me any moments of delight when reading it. Good for a reader who reads all the chick-lit books, but it isn't going to win over anyone new to the genre.
Portia Macintosh is one of the only authors that I will forget my hated of first person narrative for.
This book was fairly predictable with its outcome, even before the fact that Adam rarely featured, and I must admit that I worked out the ending very early on. That said, it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the story at all. I loved Damien from the beginning, despite the fact that he was meant to be the evil demon boss.
Easily a book I could read again and again.
What a marvelous book! I loved Sadie's character- from the opening scene, to the Post-It note exchanges, her long hair and love of vintage clothes, plus her loving and silly relationship with her family. I felt like I was transported to a Winter Wonderland when Sadie and Damian travel to Sadie's hometown for Christmas. Her family was fantastic and I loved all of their traditions. I am contemplating asking for Dial-A-Date for Christmas this year! I also laughed out loud at Mackie's murder jokes during the wedding weekend, but I wish there had been a follow up to that storyline. I guessed the Post-It note storyline in the beginning but still loved the ending. This book was full of smiles, laughs and lots of Christmas cheer!
This was a sweet, fun book. I absolutely loved the lead characters and the dynamic between them. I also now want to spend Christmas with Sadie and her family. I'm excited to have found this author!
Thank you to Netgalley, Portia MacIntosh, and Boldwood Books for the ARC. I voluntarily read and reviewed this title.
I loved this sweet romance.
Sadie hates her boss, wants a new job desperately and has a post it note romance going on with a coworker. Damian is her boss, who invites himself home with her for Christmas. What starts off as enemies, soon turns to something else. Damian isn't as bad as Sadie thought. They more time she spends with him and her family, a new light is shone on Damian.
I loved the holiday theme with all the fun traditions Sadie has with her family. It was adorable that Damian wanted in on all of them!
Super cute and sweet story.
I love a Portia MacIntosh book and it seems a Portia MacIntosh Christmas book is even more perfect. In this book Sadie has what everyone thinks is the perfect job with The Great Damian Banks but things aren't what they seems as she feels more like his mother than his assistant. The only bright spot is her 'relationship' with a mysterious colleague through post-it notes on their shared desk. Then in the run up to Christmas she has an opportunity to change her situation but as she spends more time with her boss will it be that easy to take the opportunity she desires or more importantly, will she still want to?
Sadie's first person narrative was great, getting son her side quickly and Damian is also great but amusing in his helplessness in places. The christmas scenes with Sadie's family are fabulous and made me want to live in a place like Hope Island and experience a typical island christmas. It might only be August but this book has already get me in the mood for the christmas festivities. Just perfect.
Another great book from Portia MacIntosh! Such a lovely book, flew through it in a couple of hours. Definitely worth reading
