I found this book to be a very uncomfortable read. I was not at all happy to read of people being controlled and manipulated in such a way. I did finish it, but it was not pleasant.
A book of thirds. The first third had me gripped, the second seemed to lose the trail and I’m sorry but I just couldn’t finish it.
It’s a not for me but I really hope others will enjoy.
I never repeat the blurb. This started off really well but then got a tad overly convoluted, to the point I no longer really cared, only wanted to know the outcome
I really enjoyed this book all the way through. It had a really good plot, great main characters and really keeps you hooked on the plot. I would highly recommend this book.
Struggled a lot with The Hit List.
I couldn’t finish this. I’m sorry it wasn’t for me. Dnf- I got to 36%.
Middle rating for fairness.
DNF at 20%. This book was very well-written and there's definitely an audience for it but unfortunately that audience wasn't me. I found it extremely slow to get started and it just didn't grab my interest.
The Hit LIst by Holly Seddon
An intriguing premise and situation for our main character. I did lose my way in the middle, as I'm not quite sure there's enough story to maintain the book and it did lag, but the ending was quite satisfying.
Good concept and good to see how and why it all links .a story about dark characters and and desperate ones
Like other reviewers I found I became less interested as we went on and think more cd have been done to elevate the mystery but this is a subject that does happen and maybe more than we think .everything has a price and everyone has a need so dark webs are reached for . .
Not her best I have preferred others but still an ok read
This is a great thriller that starts off quite slow but then picks up towards the end of the book.
The first part of the story is told from Marrianne’s perspective as she discovers her name on a hit list.
She can’t get her head round why it would be there and digs further into her late husband’s laptop and papers around the house.
We also have chapters from Sam who seems to be following Marrianne and is waiting to kill her.
The book then goes onto Marrianne’s husband Greg and we find out what he was up to before his death.
The story was cleverly pulled together in the end and I really liked the ending of the book.
Thanks to Orion Publishing Group and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
The Hit List is another chilling thriller from Holly Seddon. It is told from the perspective of several
characters, in different timelines. When Marianne’s husband Greg is killed in a road accident while cycling, she discovers a side to his life she knew nothing about. After exploring his journey through the Dark Web, she realises he may have actually been murdered and her life may also be in danger.
It is difficult to give too much detail without spoiling some of the many plot twists. With extra marital affairs, people trafficking and criminal exploitation included in the book, the storyline is fast paced and quite stressful at times. I did find some parts hard to follow and considered it utterly far fetched, but it is ultimately thrilling escapism.
Ooh I really struggled with this one.
I loved the sound of the synopsis but I linked through it rather than raced.
I lost the plot with it on more than one occasion and had worked out what I thought was happening about a third of the way in to the book - as I was gifted an ARC I continued to limp on through the book only to discover what I thought I had figured out what was happening was actually better than the real ending!
Really wanted to enjoy this book but didn’t......I hate it when I write a negative review but I can’t do anything other with this
A dark and addictive thriller. A lot of Terrifying twists and turns and it is highly engrossing. Read this one in one sitting as couldn’t put it down and needed to know what was coming next
I am a bit 'on the fence' with this book, as I felt it lost it with me in parts. I enjoyed it at the beginning, then it seemed to fall a bit flat and I was disappointed with the ending.
Overall it was well written but just didn't have the 'grab' factor for me unfortunately.
Thank you to Netgalley and Orion Publishers (Trapeze) for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
Marianne’s husband Greg was knocked off his bike and killed over a year ago and she is learning to live her life without him. On the first anniversary of his death, she surrounds herself with his things and reads all his old emails on his laptop. Then suddenly she finds that he had been accessing the dark web. When she delves deeper she finds her name on a hit list. What was Greg involved in and how does it affect her?
This story started off well, I particularly enjoyed part one. Part two, I felt was more of a skim read for me but then it picked up again for the third part. Some parts were a bit unbelievable and the ending was possibly rushed.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher Orion Publishing Group for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
The plot behind ‘The Hit List’ is extraordinary. Marianne, having lost her husband, Greg, in a road traffic accident one year previously, does some snooping around on his computer, finding out that not only has he been perusing the notorious’ dark web’, but also that her name is on an assassins hit list!
As hooks go to draw the reader in, this really does the trick! I couldn’t wait to delve into this book. When I did I was not disappointed. I found there was nothing predictable in the story. The plot was executed to perfection and the character development was totally on point.
This book might appeal to readers of the ‘mystery’ genre in addition to psychological thriller fans, as the workings out of the relationship between characters on the hit list was certainly a conundrum that got me wracking my brains!!
This is a seriously good read. My thanks to Netgalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest review.
The Hit List by Holly Seddon is a gritty, unnerving and disturbing psychological mystery thriller slash domestic noir. The multiple narratives and back-and-forth time frames are gripping and cleverly plotted. I particularly enjoyed Sam's viewpoints and character development although I wanted to shake some of the other characters at times! I needed to suspend my disbelief and one or two points but was happy to do so and overall The Hit List is compelling, heartbreaking and filled with tension. This is another triumph for Holly Seddon.
A good story about the twisted underworld of the dark web and how it entraps people. Thrown in some really good twists as to who is at the top of the organisation....
Marianne and Greg had a happy marriage – up until he is killed on his way to work in a seemingly unprovoked accident. Marianne delves deep into Greg’s belongings, specifically his laptop, hoping to recapture just a moment of her husband. She realises, however, that her spouse had been accessing the dark web, frequently, and that her name is on a hit list. How can Marianne reconcile her charity working husband, a man who always triumphed the good, with the dark web – and who is responsible for her name on that list? As the story is told from Greg’s point of view, then Marianne’s, the reader pieces together the events that cause everyone to act the way they do, even if it is out of character. You feel unsettled the whole time you’re reading, and I was jumping at even the slightest noise in my room. It reads very realistic which makes it all the more terrifying.

A must read.
Marianne's husband Greg is knocked off his bike and killed on the way to work, she must unpick the life he left behind. Numb with grief, Marianne consoles herself by scouring Greg's laptop, finding comfort in reading his old emails and tracing his footsteps across the web. Until one day, she discovers that he had been accessing the dark web. Why was Greg, a principled charity worker and dedicated husband, logging on to a website that showcases the worst of humanity's cruel impulses and where anything is available for a price? Marianne steels herself and logs on. After tentative searching, she discovers her name on a hit list.
In this fast-paced, powerful and exceptionally plotted novel, Marianne must figure out whether Greg was trying to protect her or whether he was complicit in the conspiracy for her murder.
I loved its dialogues and narration. Thanks to NetGalley and Orion Publishing Group Trapeze for giving me an advance copy.
Marianne was widowed a year ago, still grieving the loss of husband Greg, on a whim she checks his laptop. She discovers he had accessed the dark web.
At first she believes this must have been for his job, he helped trafficked women, but then she finds the hit list. Here you can enter your name to find out if anyone has hired an assassin to kill you. She puts in Greg’s name…..nothing.
But when she enters her own name…….there it is…..someone wants her dead.
Why?
I can’t say much more for fear of spoiling the plot. But what I will say is that this is a clever, tension filled and twisty psychological thriller.
Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for an eARC of The Hit List
