The first Jack Lark book I have read and certainly won't be the last! What a great read, from the opening chapters set in the East end of London, through to Jack heading into Africa.

Very much like Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe series, perhaps with a little more historical description and background. Highly recommended.

Right I am off to track down the first eight books in the series....

Fugitive is the 9th outing for Collard’s Jack Lark, and like the previous 8, it’s another brilliant read. Book 9 finds Jack back in London, a little older, a little darker, and slightly more broken.

I loved the first part of the book set in the dank was of Victorian east London. The atmosphere matched the tone perfectly, and it felt like the perfect place for Jack to be.

I feel like the second part of the book was weaker, the story felt a little strained, with Jack slogging across Africa for a less than exciting final battle.

Nonetheless, it’s a thrilling page turner that I extremely enjoyed.
