Okay this was a really cute and quick read!
The art curator dreams and the back-to-hometown elements were delightful! I loved how the Katharine and Kit ended up crossing paths and seeking each other out in different settings (art school and in-progress gallery especially).
In general, I didn't find anything particularly relatable with respect to Katharine and her personal struggles, which is why I didn't rate this book any higher. I feel like there weren't any notable breakthrough moments that made me feel much of a connection to her or any of the other main characters.
Overall, this was a pretty nice read! I loved the artistic elements and how the main pairing related to each other through their connection with art.
A thank you to Netgalley and HQ Digital for the lovely ARC!
This book was just such a fun book and it portrayed one of my favorite troops -hate to love- romance! The writing is so well done and makes the reading so easy although the pace of the story is slow you enjoy the encounters between the characters.
Thanks Netgalley for providing me an ARC of this book in exchange of a honest review
The writing in this book is good. I like the characters. The pacing is slow, with lots of exposition. For me, it was just too much minutiae of daily life and not enough action. I'm sure it will appeal to others who enjoy quieter books.
Main characters argue a lot? Witty banter? Yeah I definitely enjoyed this book. It was a fun easy read and there’s character development!
Thank you to NetGalley for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was such a cute book! One of my favorite tropes- hate to love romance! When you find yourself starting over after working so hard for something, but also find love on the way?
Katharine finds herself back in her hometown after being passed up for a promotion that she worked so hard for, but I feel like there's always a blessing in disguise to things like this. Being passed up means she was able to go back home, open her own gallery and find Kit.
Need a funny yet super cute book? Definitely hit the spot! Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book! I so enjoyed it- especially during these trying times.. the laughter was definitely needed.
This is a lighthearted easy read! It took me just a few days to finish when I was taking breaks from the normal work day.
I don't know if it's the time of the year, because we are very close to Christmas but I absolutely love reading cute romance novel in this time of the year and this one was so sweet. You just can't not fall in love with this story.
The sweetest and most uplifting story of following your dreams.
This was my first book by this author, and after this quick and easy read it certainly won’t be my last.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Well I accidentally fell in love with this book! The perfect British rom-com for a sunny afternoon outside or one the sofa sipping a cup of lemonade with ice or even a cheeky alcoholic beverage.
The sweetest and most uplifting story of following your dreams.
Katherine quits her job as an art curator in London and packs up back to her home town of Sheffield. Dreaming of opening her own art gallery.
Her dad on the other hand is trying to set her up with local artist Kit, safe to say they don’t get on and but heads, kit is stubborn and challenges Kath.
Will they fall accidentally in love?
I want to thank NetGalley and Harper Collins Publisher for sending me the eARC.
Firstly, Belinda Missen’s writing is so easy to gel with, I clicked with her instantly.
I loved all the pop culture references and it was so very witty and funny I rather enjoyed myself through out this book.
There’s never a full moment in this novel, you think surely you can’t keep hitting and yet she does and it’s so effortless which is my favourite funny books where the author isn’t trying to hard it just comes out naturally.
The relationship I loved the most though, apart from kit and Katherine’s was Kathrine and Adam’s how brilliant it was and written so wonderfully.
let’s get to it shall we? PROS:
- Banter, I love good humour it’s so hard to do.
- The relationships between ALL characters, amazing, felt so real and I enjoyed it.
- I loved the entire story
CONS:
!!!!!!! NONE !!!!!!!
I loved this book SO MUCH!
The writing, the style, humour and settings.
Her relationships with everyone in the book, how real they all felt and how relatable Katherine character actually was.
I find myself want to read more of them!
I highly recommend you pick this up for a fun summer (all year round) read!
5 stars.
Accidentally in Love by Belinda Missen is a romantic comedy, that is a perfect escape from life's worries. I loved this book it has everything you want in a romantic comedy book. This book is easy to read, fast-paced, that kept me reading page after page. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author, if they are as good as this one. I highly recommend this book for any one who enjoys a sweet romance.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Katharine gets passed over for a promotion she really wanted and decides to quit her job. I can relate.
She comes across the perfect building for her own gallery. She sleeps on it, quits the toxic boy-friend and decides to give it a go for six months.
Except the artist she's set her mind on for her first exhibition isn't being very cooperative. Attractive, though, but not cooperative.
Likeable, related characters. I sometimes got a little bit lost in the banter between Katharine and Kit, but overall a very enjoyable book.
Kate as a main character was everything I needed to read! Tired of being passed up for promotions? Wanting to make it on your own? Not satisfied with how things are going in love and life? I can only hope to be able to turn things around like her & GO FOR IT. I found her to be a character that gave me hope while being completely relatable.
“Everyone has those mornings where something simply doesn’t feel right… It’s more a charge in the air. That’s how I feel right now, life slipping off-kilter as I step into the bridal shop. A bell above the door tingles to alert the God of mischief that it’s time to suit up.”
This was my first book by this author, and after this quick and easy read it certainly won’t be my last! A breath of fresh air with the witty word choices from a great protagonist, with an adorable haters to lovers romance with incredible banter, I really enjoyed this one!
the plot just filled me with a feeling that I can't explain. I could totally connect with the characters and there were some meoments when i felt that i was a part of their lives. On the whole I enjoyed the book.
Wow! This story definitely kept me hooked. I loved both Kit and Katherine and the way they challenge each other. Really enjoyed the wit and humour! And a strong female character taking back her own life... I'm in.
Quite a fun, uplifting read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. My opinions are all my own.
3.5
Have not had a chance to read this yet, but will keep it on my list for a rainy day! Appreciate being offered the reading copy!
I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Surprised how much I enjoyed it! I expected this to be a book with little to no character development and I was pleasantly surprised, character development, great plot, some witty back and forth banter and great details about setting, I felt like I was actually there in the room with the characters.
The only downside is how mean the characters are towards each other, sometimes , but more than once and that annoyed me.
This was an unexpected love for me. Based on the title I thought this was going to be your tradional rom com and in some ways it is but it's different enough to be memorable.
I received this book complimentary from NetGalley but all opinions are my own.
Oh, this was a delightful book. Katharine was a lovely character, spilling right off the page. Every character was so thought out and round, truly. I love her relationship with Kit - it was a great slow burn and the final pages were just dreamy. I got a bit frustrated with Lainey but overall the characters were just wonderful. The setting was idyllic. I don’t know that I’ve read anything in England that was not London so this was a beautiful change of pace. I want to move to “Sheff.” I really enjoyed this one. I will definitely keep an eye out for Missen going forward.
Katharine Patterson officially has the week from hell. Having walked out of her job after being passed over for promotion again, and then finding that what she thought was a budding relationship, was actually anything but, she decides to head back home and start a fresh.
Finding the ideal property in Sheffield Katharine decides she is going to open her own gallery and with the help of a local artist she has her fingers crossed it will be a huge success. The problem begins when she meets Kit who is a well know local artist, sparks fly but not necessarily in the best way.
Katharine finds Kit to be opinionated, challenging and stubborn and really has no idea what to do with those feelings. She doesn’t seem to know if she is coming or going when she is around Kit but she is determined to win him over and get his work at the opening show.
I really liked Katharine’s attitude and the way she stood up for herself and really worked hard to bring her dreams to life. I struggled a bit with Kit as my first impression was that he was rude and impolite. He did grow on me, but there were times when I was struggling to keep up with the tone of the dialogue which didn’t help improve my opinion of him.
Katharine did seem to find herself rolling from one scrape to the next and her flustered manner of handling things got a bit tiresome in places, as was Kit’s habit of shutting down when things got a bit rough.
The development of the characters helped to explain some of his behaviour, and with Katharine I did have an lingering question of whether she was falling into a similar relationship as she had with John, where he called the shots and she followed along; but Kit did show that he was there for the small things as well as the big, even if he did have a problem with opening up.
This is a great read and one I would recommend, it has a reasonable pace to it and the main characters are well rounded and you know enough about their history to understand how that has shaped them. Some of the dialogue made it hard for me to figure out the tone of the conversation that to begin with I judged Kit’s character harshly as he came across as arrogant and rude.
At the end of the story I was routing for Katharine to make a success of everything and loved how her journey had prompted others to take a leap of faith too.
I found Katharine I very charming and likeable character which made this an enjoyable read. It was a bit slow to get going but once it did I found it endearing. It was more different than I expected to a normal rom com which I liked. It was a light, easy going read that was a nice escape during lockdown!
