This book was everything I look for in a book. It was so exciting. The plot was fantastic. It really had me on the edge of my seat, and my heart racing. It was an exciting domestic thriller. Played very well
This is how you write an intelligent, unpredictable psychological thriller, it’s gripping from beginning to end! It’s very well written with a good pace, there are some excellent twists and turns with the whole package giving you prickles of fear right from the start.
Tense, Domestic Suspense…
Tense, domestic suspense. A dark and twisted tale with well crafted characters and an engaging storyline. Narration is well performed and nuanced and brings the characters to life. An enjoyable listen.
I was unable to download this book to the netgalley shelf app so unable to review. The app works now however didnt at the start.
This book is told in first-person, sometimes slips into the second, with the characters addressing each other in the narration. They are two voice actors for the three POV characters. It's pretty clear who’s talking and if you're gonna read this book I do recommend the audiobook.
This book deals with forensics a lot and people intentionally using forensic to incriminate each other. Fun. A lot of unrealistic things though, like someone not noticing that their sheets being changed to a different band. I know rosegold is a trend but having the exact same sheets from two different stores is a lot to accept as being a thing. Maybe this is just an Autistic thing but I would notice. I know the police do fuck up cases all the time, but so much is took at face value with no one questioning anything like motive. Phone records are never checked, or basic interviews. It involves a lot of the intended leaps being made.
The whole cheating thing is ridiculous when there is no proof of it ever happening. The only witness to it is someone with a motive to lie. So much is took at face value. The UK cops aren't that asinine.
Mental Illness is a plot point. I wouldn't say it is great representation but I'm not mad about it. Maybe I'm tired. It is what it is. There is a lot of character development twists, but I didn't care about the characters meaning I didn't care about this new information. I read this book in a day, so I didn't spend that much time with them.
Overall, I give this book 2.5 stars for Identical Sheets. The plot structure was fine. The characters were kinda flat, meaning the plot had no impact. Jail for everyone, who cares. Horrifying if it happened to a real person,
Wow! This book is dark and twisted and had me hooked from the start. Is anyone safe? Maybe not! This is a guilt pleasure kind of book full of despicable people doing despicable things. Tomas and jade are such interesting characters and made the book so fun, despite the disbelief throughout!
Intriguing storyline. Enjoyed the different narrator viewpoints throughout. A number of twists leading to the final conclusion. Narrator was easy to listen to.
This is a book that I did a read/listen to. I love audiobooks, but sometimes, I need to go back and double check something I might have missed or gotten confused about, this was needed here. Once I figured out what was happening and who was who, this book gripped me. I didn't like any of the characters in this one, but I still connected in the sense that I wanted to see what was going to happen to them. There were so many twists, that I wasn't sure which way was up anymore. The two female leads, Jade and Emma, were both devious and sure they were in the right. The men were puppets, through no fault of their own, but due to love. I do not want to spoil this read for anyone, so I do not want to tell you about the plot besides what is already in the blurb. I will caution you to make sure you pay attention when you are reading this one, because if not, you will have to go back like I did, it is that intricate. I did love this one, and am sure if you like a domestic, psychological thriller, you will too.
I always enjoy audiobooks more when they have more than one narrator. Because the story was told from both male and female POVs, it was great to have both male and female narrators. Laura Costello, Matt Addis both did a wonderful job with their chapters. I liked their expression and tone, especially when used to differentiate between Jade and Emma. Both new narrators to me, but I will not hesitate to listen to books they narrate in the future.
This is a thriller which is full of suspense & twists & turns like a rollercoaster ride. Really enjoyed it & would recommend this to anyone.
I listened to the audiobook of this story.
Emma is a successful dentist with her own practice, living in a nice area. A new neighbour moves in with her husband and their lives are turned upside down. Emma is accused of having an affair.
There’s twist after twist in this story, to the point I thought it was a bit too ridiculous and far fetched. The investigative skills of the police are lacking as they seem happy to accept whatever story they’re told.
I didn’t like many of the characters. Initially I liked Emma, but she changed and became as sneaky and manipulative as everyone else. I knew there was something off about Alastair and really didn’t like him at all.
The narration in the book was good, but when they tried to do accents for the other characters it spoiled it as they were quite bad.
Some of the characters were always referred to with their full name which was odd.
Instead of saying ‘phone’ or ‘mobile phone’ the author has always written ‘iPhone’ which I thought was strange and unnecessary. Was she sponsored by Apple?!
Overall, the story is quite good but not that realistic. The chapters are short and it’s an easy read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins Audio UK for a copy of this book.
This story certainly had a lot of twists and turns. Short chapters told by each of the three main protagonists.
The audio book was enjoyable and fairly fast paced. Unfortunately none of the characters are likeable. Indeed all seem to have huge mental health issues. As it moved on the events became more and more unbelievable -so many unbalanced individuals working both together and individually to achieve their goals.
However, if you can suspend belief it is well written and I would look to read other books by this author.
This is brilliant listen. Loved the 2 characters male and female voices, they really brought the story to life.
The story itself is very good. I would definately listen to more books told by theae narrators.
My thanks to Netgalley for my Kindle copy and now the audio version. I think the narration gives the story more body but unfortunately, the characters now having voices makes them even more unpleasant. They are, without exception were the most unpleasant, self centred bunch all of whom seemed to have some kind of mental illness bordering on the psychopathic, even the young boy was very odd.
It is definitely a psychological thriller that will keep you engaged until about half to three quarters of the way through when the plot becomes repetitive and somewhat boring. I feel it should have a trigger warning in the title due to the extreme amount of domestic violence within.
The initial plot was very good, sinister with lots of twists and turns but it just went on far too long.
This book was so twisty it almost made me dizzy - so many twists and turns, each one is more implausible than the other. The story (well, there are probably 10 different stories thrown into one!) is narrated by multiple characters, with chapters entitled Memories added in, and is told in a mixture of first and second person, which is confusing. There are too many unnecessary details about the characters’ clothes, perfume, interiors, meals etc. , which don’t really add to the plot development. Oh, and there are over 160 chapters, some of which consist of just one sentence. I listened to this on audio and narrators did a decent job as I am not sure I would have finished it if I were reading the book.
Jade and her husband Tomas moved next door to good looking and smart Emma who is in a relationship with Alistair.
Jade is a retired forensic pathologist and Tomas is a hedge fund investor whereas Emma is a dentist and Alastair is also a forensic pathologist.
Jade believes her neighbour Emma is having an affair with Jade's husband, to teach them a lesson she takes this matter in her hand.
The book is full of twists and turns and each one is crazier than the next. It is a dark, crazy, twisted, and compulsive tale that will keep you on the edge and you will not be able to rest.
It is the story of delusions, paranoia, secrets, lies, and murder. I enjoyed the narrators and I believe they have done justice to the story.
Thank you NetGalley and publishers, for providing a digital copy in exchange for an honest review.
This audiobook took a while to get into but once I did I quite enjoyed the story. I was not overly impressed with the unlikely events. One thing I dislike in a story is this. I never realised women could be so. murderous
If you like a book that’s keeps you guessing to the very end then this is for you. An absolutely brilliant psychology thriller. It starts off with two couple. However, it sound becomes obvious that one of the women has mental issues. This leads to murder. From here there are just so many twists and turns. All the characters are obnoxious apartment from Thomas.
The male and female narrators really added to the story.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the arc in return for an honest review
My Darling – Audiobook version
Author Amanda Robson
Narrated by Laura Costello and Matt Addis
The Story:
This is an absolutely great read! Full of suspense, drama and more than a few twists! The story starts with a new couple moving in next door and then the drama unfolds… It’s a real page turner of a tale! Halfway through the story I thought I had it sussed then BAM the twists started and I was guessing and page turning until the end.
The Narration:
I love it when there are more than one narrator, this makes it much easier to follow when the story is being told from different perspectives.
4* from me.
This was a superb domestic thriller that I would highly recommend.. This time I listened to the audible version and I have to say everything about it was excellent. The narrators were great and once I started listening I was immersed totally in the story. A great read full of twists and turns.
The narrators are 5 stars. They did an amazing job with this story.
The story it's self I'm giving 3 stars. I enjoyed the amount of twist and turns in it.
