After seeing the hype surrounding the Netflix adaptation of this, I was desperate to pick it up. However, that desperation for a good story quickly turned into annoyance. Where this novel tried to be eerie it only succeeded in repeating itself and getting on my nerves. The plot was predictable and not developed enough for the ending to be a shock. The writing was a little creepy sometimes but ended up feeling more performative and pretentious than anything. It was underwhelming, unfortunately.
