I really enjoyed this novel, despite its misleading, (rather lazy?) title. Definitely needs working on, Mr Parsons! The plot was well-structured and fast-paced, leading us to the eventual discovery and explanation of the opening drama. The characters were convincingly drawn and the plot showed variety and contemporary relevance. An absorbing and enjoyable read.

A really enjoyable read with an intriguing plot. Following Tara making one selfish bad choice and the devastating aftermath. Got a little confusing towards the end as the story jumped ahead quite a lot, but still very readable.

Tara Carver runs a successful dating site business but while attending a conference in Toyko makes a dreadful mistake in sleeping with a married man who she got talking to at the event. After returning home Tara's life becomes a nightmare as her one night stand stalks her continously telling her he loved her and wants the affair to continue. The torment of her stalker pushing further and further into her life with her husband and child pushes Tara to take action leading to a devastating consequence. It was quite interesting as to how my perception of Tara changed throughout the book. A book worth reading.

I'm puzzled by this book as the title has nothing to do with what actually happens! That issue aside, this is an OK attempt at a domestic noir novel but doesn't do anything differently and is a bit predictable. It's another example of a novel where no-one does what any normal, reasonable person would do but instead finds themselves embroiled in an increasingly complicated scenario for no obvious reason. It would keep you occcupied for a few hours on a journey but you probably won't remember much about it afterwards.

As other reviewers have mentioned- baffled by the title as neighbours aren't part of this book... really odd!

Anyway, aside from that, decent book but mildly let down by parts that are unbelievable and the last 10% of the book really gave a rushed impression. I couldn't get over the fact that it kind of felt like the word count had been reached and it was all too-quickly wrapped up.

The story unfolded well. It felt like the story has unfolded a short way through but that soon became clear to not be the case. There were some good twists but again also felt slightly let down by a lack of any tension or thrills...

Overall I enjoyed it and it's difficult to point out flaws without spoilers, but couldn't get over feeling slightly let down too.

I tend to like a bit of a happy ending so a little disappointed that it wasn't quite the ending I hoped for, but nevertheless a well written and enjoyable story.

One of those reads that are partly intriguing as you want to know the outcome but also some elements are unbelievable.

This new stand-alone psychological thriller/domestic noir from Tony Parsons begins in a similar way to his much-loved first novel, “Man and Boy,” but this time it is the wife rather than the husband who risks her happy life with her delightful, caring husband and beautiful, bright young son for a night of exciting but meaningless lust. For Tara, however, the repercussions are much more deadly, as her family, friends and colleagues are drawn into a murder enquiry. But what really happened? Parsons ranks up the tension and keeps us guessing until the end. No-one is quite what they have seemed as Tara’s life spins out of control. While she herself is spoilt and selfish in the beginning that is the point, and she comes to understand her failings and pays for them. I still prefer Parsons’s police procedurals featuring Max Wolfe and hope he will reappear soon, but in the meantime this is a twisty and pacy read with much to enjoy. Baffled by the title though- no neighbour is ever mentioned!

Why will Tara with her successful business and happy family life put all at risk for one night of fun? The story develops at a nail-biting pace and draws you in with the introduction of the other characters in Tara Carver's life and the effect her action has on them. A gripping psychological thriller mixed with romance and red herrings thrown in for good measure. Just like, Tony Parson's Man and Boy, this is an engaging book that comes highly recommended.

Twisty thriller describing snowball consequences of a one night stand. Good in parts but unbelievable in others. I enjoyed it and it was good escapism told from two different povs. Not sure why it is called this title though?

This is the first Tony Parsons novel which I have read and therefore I had no real expectations of it and don’t know whether or not it is typical of his work.

Through the eyes of the two lead protagonists, Tara and Christian Carver. We are led to believe that they are the ideal couple: 1 child, a dog a growing business, what’s not to like? But then whilst on a business trip to Japan, Tara succumbs to a chance encounter and finds that it is not as easy to put behind her as she had imagined.

This is definitely a twisty thriller and I did enjoy it. I appreciated that the author had worked hard to turn the typical gender stereotypes on their head, with Tara running a successful business and Christian being the primary parental figure. I can also buy that women are just as prone to having a fling whilst on a business trip as a man.
However, this wasn’t entirely successful for me.

I have known lots of women in business - in fact I work in the tech industry myself - but I didn’t really recognise Tara as a woman I know. Her relationship with Mary just didn’t seem terribly plausible to me in terms of relationships between women working this closely together. Not all women are sororial, I accept that but very few are quite so immune to the private life of those around them, particularly when there are so few employees within the business and this is her business partner.

I also have reservations about Christian. Is he intended to be the anti-Christian Grey? He really is, almost up to the end of the book, simply too good to be true.

I was also unconvinced by the police elements of the book.

BUT, it is an easy and enjoyable read, the kind of book you can easily start in the morning and find that it’s mid-afternoon the next time you look up.

I would definitely try another of his books after reading this and I’m sure that most readers who like the suspense genre will enjoy it.

My first Tony Parsons novel and it didn’t disappoint. It is an easy to read and fast paced thriller. Imagine the perfect happy family. Tara, a successful businesswoman, her house husband Christian, 5 year old Marlon and Buddy the dog! The on a trip to Japan to attend a conference Tara has a one night stand and her whole life starts to unravel. As the cracks in her life appear we realise that Tara is not as perfect as we thought. The storyline is told in alternate chapters by Tara and Christian. I found the situations believable and shows how quickly problems can escalate, in this case to murder.
There are plenty of twists and red herrings that keep you guessing ‘ whodunnit ‘ and I found the book enjoyable.

Tara Carver has it all - perfect husband, family, job and house. Then one night on a business trip abroad sends it all spiralling into oblivion. The one person threatening to take Taras perfect live away ends up with his life taken. There are plenty of people in Taras live that would do anything for her.
I enjoyed the 2 person perspective the story is told from. An enjoyable standalone book from a great author.

Interesting read in the “Me too” era. The premise and plot are interesting and the writing effective, I would qualify it a “beach read” as unfortunately it is quite forgettable but still worth reading.

I really enjoyed this book that takes the reader on a journey about infidelity and the harrowing consequences. Tara is a young wife with a caring husband, Christian, who looks after Marlon, their son and the family dog. It seems to be an idyllic setting, so, why does the book begin with Tara searching her husband’s phone for clues of a possible affair?

What follows is a strong psychological thriller that kept me guessing and had some fascinating insight into Tokyo, a city I know little about. I particularly loved the reference to a real life restaurant called OUT that serves one dish of pasta, one type of wine 🍷 and only plays Led Zeppelin - sounds like the perfect place!

There is a part of the book, midway through, that was a little slow and I almost lost interest. I’m glad I stuck with it though as it was definitely worth it.

I usually enjoy Tony Parsons’ books but was rather disappointed with Your Neighbour’s Wife (even the title seems irrelevant!). The premise was intriguing and it started with a promise, however, the story got more and more unrealistic with every chapter. The plot, the characters, the dialogue - everything was just too contrived. I actually struggled to finish it. This one wasn’t for me.

Imagine you’re looking at a painting of a happy family. It looks so lovely, soft focus, perfect, right down to the goofy Golden Labrador. Then the author passes you high definition spectacles, and suddenly it’s all in sharp focus!

Well if that’s what Tara Carver thought then she’s sadly mistaken.That one night stand will have unforeseen consequences, that will take a sledgehammer, not just to Tara’s life but to her whole family’s life too, and in the process, it will smash that happy painting into tiny pieces!

Tara appears to have it all, she’s really driven, and has a successful and rewarding business, one that she started completely from scratch. She and Christian (a stay at home Dad) have a loving relationship, and Marlon is the light of both their lives. This little family were a tight unit, they only needed each other to make their lives complete. However, after Tara’s night of complete abandonment, her perfect life ends, when the married man she spent the night with, decides that he wants her permanently in his life, and constantly calls, texts and even shows up at her place of work. This is definitely stalker territory! She can’t get through to him that it was a one off, he just won’t let it go. There’s only one way to get rid of him before he destroys everything she holds dear - and that’s to get rid of him permanently!

This was a really gripping psychological thriller, that also manages to portray how a loving family unit, is left straining under revelations that can no longer be ignored, can no longer be put back in the box. The backlash isn’t pretty, but it made for a riveting read.

I really enjoyed this book all the way through. It had a really good plot, great main characters and really keeps you hooked on the plot. I would highly recommend this book.

This is the first novel by Tony Parsons that I've read, and I have to say it was quite brilliant!

I was a bit of a mess inside my head trying to figure out the truth; in a good way. I love when the plot has some mystery to it, and it's not at all predictable.

Overall, this was a great read.

One of the most original storyline that I have come across in a very long while. With the various suspects for the murder keeps the reader guessing who was actually the guilty person. Even when one thinks it is finally solved there is año sting in the tail.
