Loved this!! So twisty and turny, but I wouldn't expect anything less from Holly Seddon after reading her previous books.
I was interested in reading/listening to this book as it plays upon the idea of the dark web. This is something that I personally find fascinating - you hear so much about the 'dark web' but I have no idea how you would get on it, or the unlawful things that go on there. It's a complete mystery to me, but it's something you always hear about on the news.
I found the opening chapters of the book slightly slow, but once it got going the pacing was relentless and didn't let up.
Holly Seddon really does know how to write a page turner!!
The narrators of the book were great - but the Scottish accent was very strong. (this didn't bother me as my family are Scottish, but could potentially see that causing a few issues)
I urge those that enjoyed this book to read Seddon's back catalogue as I personally preferred her other stuff (but that doesn't mean I disliked this!) Will continue to read her future books - fab mystery/thrillers!!
This book had an interesting plot. Marianne finds her name from a hit list in her deceased husband's laptop. She tries to find the other targets from that same list. And then she comes face to face with the assassin. For some odd reason Marianne keeps her findings secret. Only once does she try to call the police anonymously.
The book is divided into three parts. In the second part we go back and find out what happened before. I liked the first and second parts. The story is compelling and intriguing. I thought I knew what was happening, but I was obviously wrong. The third part and the ending seemed a bit rushed and unconvincing. But it was so worth the journey.
The audiobook has multiple narrators. Marianne, Greg and Sam have the biggest parts. All of the narrators did a great job. They all had different accents and it sounded wonderful.
Thank you NetGalley and Trapeze for a copy of this book.
The Hit List is a stand out book this year. Marianne is still reeling from the death of her husband Greg, using his old passwords she still goes into his laptop to read old emails to comfort herself. They had what seemed like a perfect relationship, until this perception is blown wide open. Based on what she finds Marianne ends up on the dark web putting her husbands name on a search to see if he was on a hit list. What she didn’t expect was to see her name there........
This book explores the ensuing nightmare from a range of perspectives, challenging our motives and morals at every turn. What would you do to save someone, when does a good act become evil? What happens when you get in too deep? I can’t recommend this audio book enough. The narrators cleverly brings this multi character storyline to life, seamlessly switching between characters. I can’t divulge the intricacies of the storyline without giving the plot away, however as the threads are woven together this audiobook kept me guessing right to the end.
Thank you to Holly Seddon, Netgalley and Orion for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

‘The Hit List’ had me sitting on the edge of my seat biting my nails with anticipation to learn how the story will unfold. This is a must read for any mystery and physiological thriller lovers in need of something to whisk you away from reality. I found myself desperately trying to discover what would happen before the mystery unfolded but it constantly alluded me. Seddon’s cleverly written story gives you enough nuggets of information to make you think you may know where the story is headed but then your thoughts are dashed as she takes the story in a different direction.
The Hit List was my first book by Holly Seddon, and it definitely won’t be my last. I recommend The Hit List to thriller fans.
Thank you NetGalley and Trapeze (Orion) for The Hit List.

Having requested this title and then thinking I could not access it on audible I am so relieved I found I could download Netgalley Shelf App on my husband's tablet. I would encourage readers not to read the blurb but to go in blind. The narrators were exceptionally good - their speech clear and compelling, my concentration did not dip at any point. My only problem was that when I wanted to go back to listen again to a couple of key chapters it was difficult to access the particular ones I wanted. Apart from that I would not hesitate to request an audible title again.
I have read all Holly Seddon's books and thoroughly enjoyed but this was another step up. Not only was this a very well crafted plot which kept me listening with bated breath, but the descriptions of people and situations was excellent. I will not put any spoilers in but when I had finished this title it left me thinking for some time after - why people do what they do, whether it be with the best of intentions or personal gain they are not always as altruistic as they may think. There are some very selfish characters in this book!!
Many thanks to Netgalley/Holly Seddon/Orion for a audible version of this title. All opinions expressed are my own.
After Marianne’s husband Greg has been dead for a year she tries to find out more about her late husband for comfort. While looking through Greg’s laptop, Marriane discovers Greg was on the dark web and then finds a hit list with her name on it. Who would want Marriane dead? Did she actually know her husband at all? How can Marrianne stay safe?
None of the characters can be trusted and they are all excellent characters with multifaceted personalities. The book is told from multiple characters perspectives which I found fascinating. There was a lot going on in The Hit List. I definitely did not figure out who was behind everything until it was revealed. It is very twisted.
I listened to the audiobook with Chris Reilly, Damian Lynch, Perdita Weeks, Stephanie Racine, and Tuppence Middleton and think they all did a great job. Their voices went well with the characters. The only thing was some of the accents were strong, so I had to listen to the audiobook slower than usual. Once slowed down though I could understand everything well and I enjoyed listening to the accents.
The Hit List was my first book by Holly Seddon, and it definitely won’t be my last. I recommend The Hit List to thriller fans.

Absolutely loved this book. I can safely say it’s been the favourite for this year. There are lots of plot twists and I never saw who the bad guys were. The audiobook added to the atmosphere of this book as the accents were perfect. There were lots of clues but I never pieced them together until the reveal at the end. I will certainly be looking out for more books by Holly Seddon if this is the quality of her offerings.
A wife on the anniversary of her husband death decides to give in an wallow in her grief for the evening. She has a new man in her life but on this night she wants to look into more about Greg. On his laptop she discovers a link to the dark web. Many things are available there. She decides to see if there was more to her husband’s accident. What it leads to is her discovery of her name on a murder list. She knew Greg had changed in the last few months of his life but did he really want her dead.
The book then takes us on a murky trail of the seedy dark web and what it has to offer. And who it reels in.
Buy this book. You won’t be disappointed.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the arc in return for an honest review.
Marianne is trying to find a way forward after her husband’s accidental death. She’s starting seeing a new man, but she still misses her husband, Greg. One day, she’s looking through Greg’s laptop, and discovers that her husband was not the man she believed he was. He’d been on the Dark Web looking at some pretty sketchy sites, and she discovers her own name on a hit list. It would appear her beloved husband hd taken out a hit on her and several other people before he died. Terrified, Marianne begins trying to find out what links her to the other people on the list, two already dead. And all the time, an assassin is on her tai, following her every move. The narrators in this story are spot on, but extra kudos go the whispery voiced, super creepy assassin.
