One More For Christmas is about a broken American family who are forced through circumstance to Scotland for Christmas.
I requested the book because of the high reviews and the theme. Sadly I don't agree with the reviews.
I found the introduction to every new character drawn out and boring. It took a few chapters to find them interesting, by which point another character was introduced. The romance was predictable and considering the number of references to "steamy books" not very steamy.
It is a nice story, and offers a dreamy setting for Christmas in the highlands which is why I gave it 3 stars- definitely good for a light read.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.
Thank you to HQ for the opportunity to read and review. Apologies for not completing this before publication day.
Another entertaining story from Sarah. Great characters and setting. Enjoyed the family dynamics and the new relationships.
4.5 stars
It isn't Christmas until I've read Sarah Morgan's festive release and this did not disappoint!
In this story we met the wonderful sisters Ella & Samantha who have grown up close and always looking out for eachother. As per tradition they are planning on spending Christmas together, until a series of random events lead to them heading to Scotland.
What beats a Christmas story set in a wonderful snowy winter wonderland. I loved the reindeer, building snowmen and the homecooked delights. This story carries all of the magic of Christmas, with a fantastic location and wonderful characters.
Sarah Morgan is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors, with her Christmas books being particularly special to me. You just know that when you pick up one of her books, you'll have a great cast of characters, a beautiful setting, and lots of love, both romantic and familial. And One More for Christmas was no different!
Samantha and Ella are absolute babes, who you love immediately, and their relationship is so special! Gayle admittedly takes a while longer to warm up to, but she does have her redeeming moments, and seeing how the relationship between the three develops was really heartwarming. And the romance element of the plot is just so special, and setting it all in Scotland at Christmas really made it perfect.
I enjoyed this book so much, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who's after a heartwarming festive read focusing on forgiveness, moving forward, and new love of all kinds.
Disclaimer - I was fortunate enough to be provided with an advance reading copy of this book by NetGalley. This has not affected my review in any way, and all opinions are my own.
A wonderful festive read - like a big warm hug. A perfect mix of family, secrets, love interests and Christmas, just what you expect from a Sarah Morgan book.
The queen of the Christmas romance has done it again, with another truly wonderful book.
This is a story with laugh out loud moments, aww moments, open mouthed in understanding when various secrets are revealed moments, and moments of self discovery.
It features three generations of the Mitchell family, although Tab at only 4 is the star of the show, utterly adorable and Sarah Morgan has perfected the way young children question literally everything, which Tab does to the extent that you almost feel sorry for Ella, her mum!
Tab though isn't one of the view points of the story but she is a star of any scene she's in. This is predominately the story of Gayle and Samantha, although Ella definitely get a fair few chapters, but due to her rather easy going nature, she doesn't feel as key as the other two.
Gayle has never been one for Christmas, and until she had an accident at work, hadn't seen her daughters in five years. So no one is more surprised that she would like to spend Christmas in Ella and Sam.
Sam has a delightful job and a way of describing various festive and winter holiday scenarios that you could picture yourself there instantly. And its due to Sam's job that they are spending Christmas in the Scottish Highlands, in a wonderfully picturesque setting.
The question though is just what caused the family rift and can it be fixed. Can Gayle really turn over a new leaft, and will Sam and Ella ever understand their mother.
And in Brodie's family who own the lodge in Scotland who are able to help the Mitchells in ways you may not expect from strangers, and Sam's first hilarious phone call with Brodie at the back of her mind the entire time, and you have all the elements of a brilliant story to discover.
Oh and if that isn't enough for you, there is a dog called bear, and various reindeer named after birds, in the hope they can fly! And how can you not love a book featuring reindeer, snow and a really heart-warming story.
I could easily see it as a Hallmark Christmas movie and it's yet another fabulous book by one of my favourite romance authors.
Thank you to HQ and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Oh my goodness... just looking into booking a family christmas in remote Kenlevin. When I first started this I didn't think it was for me... how wrong I was. Meeting Gayle in all her glory set the tone for the remainder of the story and what a magical story that was. I loved the characters, the setting and the heartwarming story. I just felt a bit sorry for Mysterious Michael who seemed too disappear for a large chunk of the text but then my heart was already do full of love for both families.
I've read books by Sarah Morgan before and have enjoyed them; this did't disappoint! A lovely Christmas read, full of drama, fun and brilliant characters.
I was so glad i kicked off my marathon December reading with Sarah Morgan's delightful One More For Christmas. For me, this festive novel had everything. A simply breathtaking setting beautifully described by Morgan, the Scottish location is absolutely the silent character in this novel. I loved the mum and her two daughters. Mum Gayle is a highly successful business woman who raised daughters Ella and Samantha singlehandedly. She redefined 'tough love' and things culminated five years earlier the, the trio had a massive argument and they haven't spoken since. Gayle is injured by an award (nice touch!) during a live interview and is hospitalised. While on the gurney she asks for her daughters. Her puzzled PA manages to track them down. Only problem is now Ella has a husband and a daughter and - horrors - is a full time mum, while sister Samantha runs a successful travel agency specialising in bespoke winter holidays. The five end up travelling to Scotland to try out a possible castle location for future chichi guests. It's here we meet the Laird of the castle, his (delightful) recently bereaved mum and his reindeer loving sister. Do the trio manage to get over the past, what secrets do they learn about one another while they are away and does Samantha get Laid by the Laird (as her sister put it!). Delightful, magical, this enchanting novel practically exudes the christmassy odours of cinnamon and crackling fires. RECOMMEND!
One More for Christmas is the perfect Yuletide reading companion.
Sisters, Samantha, and Ella strive to make Christmas perfect after the disappointment of childhood Christmases and plan to celebrate in Scotland this year. When their mum, Gayle, who they’ve not spoken to for five years, invites herself to join them they are rather concerned as to how it will pan out despite Gayle's insistence that she has changed for the better.
As they spend time together the sisters begin to understand more about the reasons behind Gayle's past behaviour and it’s a delight to see the three begin to form a bond through forgiveness and reconciliation.
Set against the backdrop of the stunning Scottish Highlands, this was a delight to read, and would recommend to anyone looking for a well written Christmas themed novel.
Thanks to HQ, NetGalley, and Sarah Morgan for the review copy.
One More For Christmas was another great book by Sarah Morgan. This book follows sisters Samantha and Ella and their estranged relationship with their mother Gayle. A great book to get you into the Christmas spirit, snow, families and a lodge in Scotland, the perfect combination. I was hooked on this book from the first few pages, I loved it.
I loved this book and a great read for the Christmas holidays.
AQ great |CHristmas story, set in a Scottish estate in the snow with family issues.
Ther is the highly successful businesswoman Gail who has allowed an estrangement with her daughters to go on for years. Her daughters, Samantha and Ella, But why - because she has been let down by a man in the past.
But through a Christmas break, they all realise what they have missed and relationships change and of course, a bit of romance is added.
One More for Christmas is a feel good festive novel where the main focus is the mother and daughter relationship. Gayle and her two daughters, Samantha and Ella, are brought together again after five years of estrangement after Gayle has an accident at work. Their relationship is a complex one and the novel is very much about their reconciliation and forgiveness. The characters are likeable and engaging and the warmth and generosity of some of these characters really shines through. The relationship Ella has with her husband and daughter is endearing, they have a wonderful connection. I was expecting a romance novel so obviously I would have liked more focus to have been on Brodie’s and Samantha’s romance. However, there was just enough romance in there to hold my interest.
The setting is wonderful. The Scottish Highlands at Christmas really sets the scene and the author has a wonderful way of bringing out the atmosphere, from the descriptions of the frigid snow covered landscape in contrast to the warmth and Christmas joy within the home. It exudes Christmas spirit and I could feel the heat from the roaring log fire and smell the cinnamon biscuits wafting out from the kitchen.
I felt the ending seemed to be over very quickly, almost abruptly, and it was all wrapped up a little too neatly. I would have liked to have seen an epilogue focussing on how the relationships had panned out, particularly Brodie and Samantha. That aside, this is a lovely warm and heartfelt story which is perfect for Christmas time. The plot is simple to follow and it’s a quick and easy read for snuggling up with over Christmas.
A captivating Christmas story which is filled with warmth and tugs at the heartstrings.
The vivid, beautiful descriptions of the Scottish lodge and its grounds made you feel like you were there.
I loved going on the character’s journey as they navigated a new way of being a family and the simmering romance was adorable.
It had everything a great Christmas story should have. Family, friends, Reindeer, Snow, Romance and a beautiful Scottish lodge.
It was just the feel-good read I needed right now.
I loved it. It was hard to stop reading and put down.
Thank you to Netgalley, HQ and Sarah Morgan for my arc of One More For Christmas in exchange for an honest review.
This was a beautifully, warm, festive read and exactly what I was looking for. Gayle runs her own boutique consultancy firm as well as having a successful self help book under her belt. So when she has an accident at work it scares her into facing the reality of how empty her life is and the need to make amends with her estranged daughters Ella and Samantha.
Samantha and Ella love Christmas, they like to fill it with everything their own childhood Christmases lacked, fun, festivity and togetherness. So when their mum calls and asks to spend Christmas with them they are woefully unprepared and unsure if it's the right decision at all....
I've been saving this read for December although it is already out to buy! And I'm so glad I did. Sitting curled up on the sofa with the Christmas tree beside me, a mug of hot chocolate and this perfect festive read was the ideal way to get me right into the Christmas spirit.
The whole book felt so wholesome, it gave me definite A Christmas Carol vibes and there was the perfect Christmas redemption element. It was cosy, had lovely family relationships and exploration of character, lots of Christmas cooking and even reindeers. What is there not to love? Highly recommended!
*I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you HQ and Sarah Morgan.*
One More For Christmas is a festive read which touches on real-life troubles (slight trigger warning for domestic abuse, it is not carried out in the book but it is mentioned in small detail), but has its moments of lightheartedness.
Gayle is hardworking businesswoman, who after a major falling out, has not seen her daughters in five years. After an unfortunate accident, which was broadcast live on TV, Gayle in the hospital with a head injury. After contacting her daughters about the accident they meet again for the first time in five years.
Samantha now has a business of her own, a company that plans Christmas themed holidays and Ella is married with a five-year-old daughter. Gayle doesn’t know either of these things until they turn up at the hospital. Wanting to make things better with her daughters she suggests they spend Christmas together, even though she hates the holiday.
Samantha has to visit a manor in the Highlands for work and ends up taking her entire family with her. Here, revelations are made and there is the possibility for a happy Christmas.
I really was not sure about this book when I read the first few chapters. I was worried it was going to be another depressing Christmas book that I find it hard to keep turning the page. I will admit that it was a little like that at the start, but it definitely got better as it went.
It did take a good few chapters for the story to really get going, with these being most character descriptions and information about their backgrounds. This wasn’t necessarily a bad thing as it is good to know a lot about the characters before the main story takes off, but it was a little much in this case.
The most exciting part of this book for me was the promised trip to the Highlands in Scotland. This part of the book was magical and it really makes the book festive, but I feel like it took a little too long to get there. The descriptions of the settings were really nice and they made me feel warm and cosy.
The characters in this book were well throughout and each had their own charming qualities. Tab, Ella’s daughter, was an especially good character. She was a lovely little girl and I feel like Sarah Morgan did a great job at writing a real toddler.
The development of the family dynamic was especially good, and I feel that it went at a realistic pace. Often these types of issues are far too rushed and the resolution comes round too quickly. However, I feel that Sarah Morgan did a great job of showing what a real family Christmas is like.
Although it is very slow to start, the second half of the book has the wonderful festiveness that was promised. I’m glad that I stuck with the book and got to the end. If you are looking for a Christmas read which is more on the mature side then you should consider picking this up.
This was a great story covering aspects of their different lives. How one person sees something over another. It was also warm and loving. And who doesn’t like a white Christmas? It definitely got me in the Christmas spirit
Wow what a Christmasy book which such a lovely story of how families can come together over the festive time and forgive and forget the past but also make a new future. Worth a read.
A lovely story about family problems and resolutions that can be achieved by talking to each other. I am sure there are parts of this book that some readers may recognise. Definitely recommended to those readers who enjoy reading this genre.
Gayle has been estranged from her daughters for 5 years and only feels the need to contact them after an accident at work. She suddenly realises how alone she is and decides to bury the past to build bridges. Ella and Samantha are shocked to hear from her and can't decide how real her change of heart is. Ella has secrets she has been hiding from her mother and Sam is trying to find excuses why they can't spend Christmas together resulting in the whole family ending up in Scotland for the holidays. The change of scene may be exactly what they need to start talking again. Another moving and interesting story from Sarah Morgan who is great at weaving a tangled web of family secrets.
