If like me you love seasonal Stories but especially Yule Tide ones then you are going to love this. Two sisters Samantha & Ella who have been estranged from their Mother Gayle for five years ,with secrets too as Gayle doesn't know that Ella is married to Micheal a Lawyer, or that she has a granddaughter almost five year old Tab!
Gayle has secrets too.
After she has an accident she suggests that they all spend Christmas together & this takes place in Scotland because Samantha is researching an Estate for her Travel Business, & into this also comes Mary her daughter Kristie &her son the Laird Brodie.
Mary tell's Gale that her late husband Cameron said `A relationship is like a Jigsaw' it's mad up from tiny pieces, some perfect some totally imperfect but unique to each of us ' ! This is true , however you come to read this book I can tell you it will be enjoyable from start to finish.<img src="https://www.netgalley.com/badge/11bc11d0026952991f96874534f30a6fb6dbed74" width="80" height="80" alt="25 Book Reviews" title="25 Book Reviews"/>,<img src="https://www.netgalley.com/badge/ef856e6ce35e6d2d729539aa1808a5fb4326a415" width="80" height="80" alt="Reviews Published" title="Reviews Published"/>, <img src="https://www.netgalley.com/badge/aa60c7e77cc330186f26ea1f647542df8af8326a" width="80" height="80" alt="Professional Reader" title="Professional Reader"/>, #Goodreads#NetGalley#instagram#Amazon.co.uk#FB
Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for providing me with a copy of this book!
I love Sarah Morgan's books anyway so when I heard about this new Christmas one (I'm a Christmas obsessive), plus the fact it's mostly set in one of my favourite places, the Scottish Highlands, I was so excited to read it - and it was my first Christmas read of the year!
The whole premise of the book is a mother, Gayle, trying to win her daughters Samantha and Ella back after falling out five years ago.
I did find it a little slow to get into, starting with Gayle's pov as it seemed very formal rather than the relaxed Christmas atmosphere I am used to, but a few chapters in it definitely became more festive with the introduction of Samantha's really festive holidays business! Brodie McEntire enlisted her help to save his Kinleven family home after his father's death, and so the family (perhaps unwillingly together) jet off to spend the Christmas period in Scotland.
Morgan set the scene so well; having visited the Highlands a few times myself (albeit not in the winter season!) I could really picture myself in the setting as it was so accurate, and just wanted to jump into the pages and be right there with the characters.
The character and relationship development was excellent. After not really liking Gayle at first, I came to feel empathy towards her and the situation she had put herself in and was trying to fix. Samantha and Ella's childhoods shaped them into the people they are today, and that was really shown. I loved Brodie's mum too! And of course I can't go without mentioning Tab, Ella's Christmas mad young daughter.
It came to be a really heartwarming, charming, feel good Christmas story that really gets you in the spirit.
4.5☆
For some reason, I've been following Sarah Morgan on Facebook for YEARS and I have never read one of her books. I'm not quite sure how this came to be, if I'm honest. But what I've learnt from this is that she is very popular and she is a book machine, releasing several books a year.
One More For Christmas, therefore, is my first Sarah Morgan book and I was kindly given an ARC in exchange for a honest review.
Gayle is a very successful business woman and author of empowering books for women. After an accident caught on tape, Gayle reevaluates her life and contacts her daughters to make amends after 5 years of not talking.
This book is perfect for Christmas. Morgan has a wonderful way with words and her descriptions make you imagine every little detail; I really felt like I had visited the Scottish hideaway! I'd love this wrapped in a blanket on Christmas Eve was a ginormous bar of Dairy Milk and a hot chocolate.
However, I feel the book was slightly too long and my attention was waning towards the end. I also feel that it would have been better to just have the book focus on the family dynamics between Gayle, her daughters and granddaughter, rather than add a romance plot to the story as I felt it really detracted what the book was really about.
Overall, a decent read and one which I'm sure Morgan's fans will really enjoy!
With thanks to NetGalley for a free electronic copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A successful but lonely American writer, with a distanced family and a difficult past meets her fate at the hands of a rather lavish award... cue the return of her family and a need to rebuild relationships right on the cusp of a white Scottish Highland Christmas.
Well the phrase ‘it only happens at Christmas’ sums up this latest novel from Sarah Morgan; in any other setting this would be a predictable, unbelievable and pretty tedious love story but it’s Christmas so anything goes doesn’t it?!
If you’re looking for a warm, snuggly bedtime story full of all those wonderful things that make the Christmas dream so special this is perfect. Lose yourself in the Highlands of Scotland... don’t question, just indulge; it’s like a hot mug of hot chocolate with lashings of cream on the top. Pure Christmas escapism.
Sarah Morgan at her best, I know she never fails to deliver great novels but this one is great. Curl up and get into this novel and you will enjoy it as much as I have done. 5 stars for you Sarah, well done.
Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for this ARC in return for an honest review.
Another fabulous book from Sarah Morgan. For me, this really was a perfect Christmas read. We follow the lives of three woman, all related by blood but certainly not alike in any way. As part of Samantha's personal
tailor made travel buisness, we travel with them to Scotland along with other family members, in the hope this break away will help mend broken down relationships. A beautiful setting and a perfect story to enjoy along with a hot chocolate.
Love this a great Christmas read it pulls you into the plots so easy to it just flows i like Sarah writing style it a good plot the characters become your friends I loved it i recommend to you all
what a great Christmassy feel good read, the perfect magical setting of the Highlands at Christmas is the type of holiday most people would wish for. Samantha and her sister Ella have the closest relationship and when their estranged mother arrives back on the scene old tensions arise but maybe a trip to Scotland will help them heal wounds and make new happy memories. Like a warm hug right when you need one Sarah Morgan is fast becoming a Festive favourite.
I love Sarah Morgan's books. I love that so many are set in New York, which is a city I adore (try the From Manhattan with Love series - you won't regret it). One Summer in Paris is also a gorgeous book and reading it this year kept me happy when we should have been there in June!
Anyway - to the book on review today. Sisters Ella and Samantha are close, they love Christmas and they haven't spoken to their mother for years. After their mother Gayle has an accident, she decides it's time to re-connect with her daughters. Samantha runs a high-end winter holiday company and is trying out a new venue in the snowy Scottish Highlands. So the whole family end up going together - potentially a recipe for the worst Christmas ever?
The descriptions of the house in Scotland and the scenery made me want to book in straightaway. There's a loveable Labrador, a cute small child and an attractive, slightly geeky hero. Everything reads so well, the characers are all engaging and you just want to read a little bit more, even though you know you should be doing other things. It's a tale of love, understanding and redemption and I loved every moment.
Loved this! Great characters I fell in love with. A real feel good and Christmassy read. Exactly what I needed. Highly recommended.
For Sisters, Samantha and Ella, Christmas is there favourite time of year, they make sure they make an extra special effort for what was lacking whilst growing up. Together with Ellas Husband and Daughter Tabitha they decide to travel to Scotland for the holidays, so Samantha can scout out a new location for her thriving Christmas holiday business. What they don't bargain on is their estranged mother joining in with the festivities.
Gayle Mitchell is a highly successful CEO, a Guru on advising people how to move forwards and succeed in life, however her fame has come at a cost and she hasn't seen her Daughters for the past 5 years. After an accident, Gayle is forced to make some changes in her life and try and make amends for the past.
Sarah Morgan writes family connections, so well that you get drawn into the story. This book made me laugh, cry and smile. Whilst the main genre for the book is romance, she also manages to blend in family strife, laughter, secrets that tear families apart but always leaves you feeling like anything is possible. The book is about family, love, friendship and most of all second chances. Every year I look forwards to the new Christmas offering from Sarah Morgan. It always gets me in the mood for the festive season and with everything going on in the world this year let's face it we all need some holiday cheer. Set in the beautiful Scottish Highlands is a book sure to leave you with that warm fuzzy feeling.
With thanks to NetGalley, HQ and Sarah Morgan for the much appreciated ARC for an honest review.
I am a bit biased about this book, the majority of it is set in Scotland so it's a winner in my eyes already. What could be a more idyllic setting than a turreted Scottish lodge with an icy loch and the snow covered highlands surrounding you. As is normal for a Sarah Morgan book clear your day, get comfy and immerse yourself in this lovely story.
Gayle is a successful woman, she's written self help books and has a consulting company in New York she is focused and determined she is also estranged from her two daughters, Samantha and Ella. An unforseen event makes her re-evaluate her life and the three women find themselves together and in Scotland for their first Christmas together for years. Will this be the best or worst Christmas ever?
This is a feel good book about families about their secrets, loss, new beginnings and love. All the characters are well rounded and really personable. You can feel the bond between Samantha and Ella and I loved the friendship that Gayle and Mary built. Brodie deserves a mention too.
A quick, easy, feel good read, loved it!
Thank you to Netgalley and HQ for the ARC
I love Sarah Morgan’s books and this one was no exception. The story of a splintered family together at Christmas in gorgeous Scotland. A great Christmassy read
I adored this book - although I couldn't read it quickly enough, I also didn't want to leave the characters behind. Gayle has built herself a life as a top businesswoman, and a bestselling author of "how to. improve your life" books. She has no time for a private life, but when she has an accident and hears her staff talking about her, she begins to feel vulnerable, and asks to see her estranged daughters. Gayle decides she needs to build bridges and they whole family ends up spending Christmas on an idyllic, remote Scottish estate, living as part of the house with the McIntyre family. Secrets of the past are revealed as the families come together and try to heal their rifts. Completely feelgood, and with little Tab to provide some light relief, this is an ideal Christmas read. I want to follow these characters further. #netgalley #onemoreforchristmas
Who doesn't love a book about family, forgiveness and Christmas? I am a massive fan of Sarah Morgan so when I saw this book on NetGalley I had to request it and I was not disappointed. This book was exactly what I wanted to read, it had light romance, family drama, the Scottish Highland and best of all Christmas.
The characters were likeable and they all had issues that they needed to deal with individually and together as a family. This got me out of a slump and I think that is mainly due to Sarah Morgan's style of writing that is easy to read, engaging and just the right amount of humour, seriousness and love.
Bringing up two daughters single handed was never going to be easy , so Gaye taught Sam and Ella to be self sufficient and not to rely on anyone, especially a man. After a five year estrangement from her daughters, and a nasty fall, Gaye reaches out to her daughters; but has she put her success before family and is it now too late ?
We all have choices to make, and this seasonal story looks on he effect some choices have on future personal happiness.
Beautiful scenery, log fires, Christmas trees and lots of snow. This is a comfortable hug of a hot toddy; a story to lock yourself away with on a grey day, or any day.
Loved it
I thoroughly enjoyed this latest book from Sarah Morgan and would recommend it to any fan of hers or to fans of cosy Christmas tales.
It tells the story of Gayle and her two daughters, Samantha and Ella who lives in the U.S. Gayle is a top businesswoman who has written best selling books on how to be a success and won awards for doing just that. But her daughters, who she has been estranged from several years, would certainly disagree at her success as a parent. However, a minor accident just before Christmas leads them all to confront their relationships with each other and with those around them. They end up travelling to the Scottish Highlands partly for the “perfect” Christmas and partly to research a potential venue for Samantha’s Christmas holiday business. But will the magical venue and the family they stay with (who are recovering from their own tragedy) also help them to heal.
Morgan is great at conjuring up Christmas and the Scottish Highlands setting certainly helps with that. I don’t think it’s too much of a spoiler to say that there are the usual family disagreements, romantic relationships, new friendships and ultimately a feel good ending. But fans of Sarah Morgan will know that she does all of this brilliantly. If you’re looking for something a bit deeper with a less predictable plot then this isn’t the book for you. But if you’re looking for an easy read that is perfect for Christmas, then look no further than ‘One More For Christmas.’
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book.
Whilst the plot was a tiny bit predictable, I really don't think you can beat a Christmas romance. Snow, reindeer and a ginormous pooch this book has it all. I felt a little bit sad as the book finished as it gives the feel good factor.
Classic Sarah Morgan, a fantastic read, seasonal and full of Christmassy festive fuzzies , great romance, strong on the love feels, wonderful writing, enter a Sarah Morgan book in any mood you are guaranteed to leave in a good mood , just gorgeous festive romance
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
This is my first Sarah Morgan book but I will certainly be looking out for more of her work. This Christmas tale was just perfect and has really whetted my appetite for all things festive!
A story mainly about mothers and daughters, mistakes and regrets and healing and changing – I loved it. I enjoyed how the chapters were told from the perspective of each character, i.e. Gayle, the mother and Samantha and Ella her two adult daughters from whom she has been estranged for five years. The story begins in America where Gayle is a celebrated author of self-improvement books but after an accident, she seeks out her daughters and the three of them plus Ella’s husband and young daughter, Tabitha, take a trip to the Scottish Highlands to try to re-connect, mend fences and to try to put a troubled past behind them. Once the story moves to Scotland the book really opens up to become the most magical Christmas story you could want. Beautiful scenery, reindeer, an old house struggling to make ends meet but its owners hoping, with Samantha’s help, to become a thriving business for visiting families. Christmas trees, snowman building and festive baking all add to the wonderful Christmas spirit. During the Christmas break however, all things don’t go smoothly and there are tears and recriminations but then secrets are revealed that will change all of their lives. Of course, there is a handsome hero in Brodie the landlord of the house who will cause hearts to flutter! This lovely book has everything you could wish for in a Christmas book so set aside lots of uninterrupted time, curl up, grab a hot chocolate and indulge yourself. My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
