Tabitha’s a small town girl working in the local diner, building a simple life for herself; one that’s thrown into chaos when her high-school sweetheart unexpectedly appears back in town – the one and only Connor Ford. Charming, charismatic and dressed to kill – his wealthy background has always set him apart from the rest of the small town residents, but now he’s married to Nina Ford; a rich socialite with a penchant for the finer things in life, the class differences between Connor and Tabitha feel even greater than before. However, it doesn’t stop them from reigniting their former spark and embarking on a dangerous liaison together. But when Nina Ford is found dead in her mansion in the Hamptons, what does it mean? And more importantly, who is to blame?
This book was fantastic! Michele Campbell’s skilfully written narrative successfully transported me from my little London flat into the glitz and glam of the Hampton elite. The characters were slowly introduced with the perfect amount of backstory and character development to make you fully invested in each of their fates. None of the characters should have been particularly likeable as they were all ridiculously flawed as people, yet the way Michele Campbell built them up, you still couldn’t help but love them and want them to succeed! I also loved that even the smaller characters weren’t just hiding in the shadows – they had enough spotlight on them to still be credible suspects, while not detracting from the main story.
This book had me hooked from start to finish, it was suspenseful, engaging and impeccably written – never letting the reader fully guess ‘whodunnit’. I loved how a range of styles was explored throughout each stage of the narrative – from slow, intense build ups, to fast-paced high speed cop chases – Michele showed she could do it all! It was full of twists, surprises and the end wrapped everything up perfectly – without falling into the trap that a lot of mystery novels fall into; where the conclusion gets a bit ridiculous and unbelievable!
I’ve never read a book by Michele Campbell before but trust me, after this – I’ll definitely be checking out more of her work! Loved the premise, loved the execution, loved the characters and loved the fact that after reading this, I’m pretty happy to stay poor – I’ll put my dreams of being part of the glitterati on the backburner for now!
Thanks to NetGalley and HQ for my advanced reader copy! 💕
So I have literally just finished this book and I was not expecting that ending. I loved everything about this story and how the chapters were split by character or year at the beginning of the book. I also didn’t guess the twist/ culprit either, to me that is what makes the perfect murder mystery book.
What an intriguing thriller.. A romance that crosses the years, star crossed lovers or are they? Who's version of the truth can you trust? What is reality and what is fantasy? This will keep you guessing all the way though.
The Wife Who Knew Too Much by Michele Campbell is a totally gripping contemporary psychological crime thriller that will consume you from the start. The farther in you read, the faster your pulse will become.
Michele Campbell has constructed a marvellous plotline. She manipulated my emotions and responses along the way. I loyally followed her through red herrings and blind alleyways. My reaction to her characters was led by the author’s mighty pen.
Money and power are driving forces for some. As they rule and corrupt lives, there is only one way to go – downwards to crash and burn. In contrast there are pure hearts led by the love of others. Money and power mean nothing. Good hearts and pure lives are top of the list.
There is the question of trust. Neither the reader nor the lead character can work out who is trustworthy. Suspicion and deception are the order of the day. As the noose tightens, it becomes harder to see the path ahead.
The Wife Who Knew Too Much was an exciting read. I failed to predict the perpetrator or the outcome. I thoroughly enjoyed the novel as it consumed my every waking moment.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
I knew from the first page that I was going to be unable to put this book down!!
We meet Nina who is married to her second husband Connor. She has found out that he is cheating on her and as he has signed a prenup that means if he cheats he gets nothing. She thinks he is planning to kill her to get his hands on her vast wealth.
Tabitha used to date Connor and was devastated when they spit up, she is surprised when he reappears in the cafe where she is waitressing, she knows he is a wealthy married man now, but they are both still attracted to one another.
This is a great thriller. I loved the twists along the way that led to a dramatic conclusion.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for a review.
It was a good story after getting grips with the alternating timelines. It took me a while to read it but I am glad I finished it.
Michele Campbell is an entirely new author for me, but when I saw this on Netgalley, it really appealed and I found myself swiftly requesting to read. And I was not disappointed.
The Wife Who Knew Too Much delivered everything I was looking for. It’s a fast paced thriller so entertaining that I found myself excited to read at any opportunity to find out what happened next, often subconsciously jiggling my knee as the tension ramped up!
The narrative focuses initially on Nina, a fantastically wealthy woman who marries a much younger man, Connor Ford. After a miserable first marriage to her late husband. she is determined to call the shots second time around and ensures an iron clad pre-nuptial agreement secures her marriage. Happiness seems to elude her however, and her story ends in the swimming pool of her Hamptons mansion.
Enter Tabitha, Connor’s second wife. Head over heels in love, she leaves her small town life behind for a life of privilege with Connor. And it’s not long before she learns of the pitfalls of wealth and greed.
The lion’s share of the story is told from Tabitha’s point of view, and whilst her actions are at times questionable, I was willing to put this aside and enjoy the ride. It has been quite some time since I read a thriller that held me quite so on the edge of my seat and I devoured this with just a couple of days.
Despite its enthralling nature, there were elements of the story I was waiting to fold out a little more, particularly in relation to Nina. I would have loved to know more about her backstory, to flesh her character out a little more and the frequent mention of her estranged sister would have been an ideal opportunity. She seemed very much to only exist in relation to the men she was married to, her moods and emotions tied to their behaviour. It’s a sad existence, despite her wealth and although she may appear strong to the world, her innermost thoughts reveal her vulnerability.
Early on, I was worried I would ‘get’ Tabitha. Seemingly lacking in grit, I admit to being anti-Tabitha in the early chapters, finding her a bit too wishy washy, desperate for her to stand her ground and demand what she deserved – however, as events unfolded I did grow to like her very much so that I was on the edge of my seat cheering her on as I read the climax. I quickly realised that she is very much the picture of normality set against a backdrop of unbelievable wealth. A regular, relatable woman forced into a role she wasn’t made for. I will quite happily admit to having quite the love for novels about the seedier side of wealth and privilege – a youth spent reading novels steeped in trashy secrets of the fictional rich and famous, and The Wife Who Knew Too Much ticked all of these boxes for me.
Despite my disappointment about Nina’s backstory, this was a read that grabbed me very quickly and didn’t let go, employing the old ‘just one more chapter’ while the rest of the house was happily snoring. I will quite happily admit to being somewhat obsessed with novels about the seedier side of wealth and privilege – a youth spent reading novels steeped in trashy secrets of the fictional rich and famous, and The Wife Who Knew Too Much has well and truly resuscitated my old fascination. I will, without a shadow of doubt be reading more from Michele Campbell, her back catalogue already on my wishlist.
The Wife That Knew Too Much just wasn’t for me. I’ve picked up several times over the last two months but it’s not my cup of tea!
Three star rating for fairness since book was not completed.
Thank you to Netgalley and HQ.
Firstly a big thank you to the publishers for my copy to review on netgalley. Im a big fan of this author!
This is a sexy sizzler of a thriller. Written in alternate timelines and perspectives so the pages turn quickly .
Packed with scandal, love, lies and death. Jealously and resentment lies at the core of this book.
Is everything as it seems?
Who can be trusted?
And its definitely love….right?
A slick effortless read that reels you in and gives you the perfect escapism.
Published 1st September
This is a new genre for me; I usually read romance and women’s fiction. However, the blurb for this book had me hooked and I was delighted to be approved for an arc.
The book started well and had me fully invested by the 10-15% mark. The story flowed well, there were plenty of twists and turns within the plot to keep me hooked. I read this very quickly and loved it!
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for my advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review 📚

Michele delivered an unputdownable and perfect psychological thriller.
Businesswoman and philanthropist Nina Levitt was found dead in Windswept, her mansion in Southampton. She was found floating in a swimming pool. She was 52 and was married to Connor, her second husband. Her first husband, Edward was died earlier.
The story started with Nina's diary in which she wrote that her husband wanted her dead because of the obvious reasons that he was in love with another woman and that be wanted her money.
Was it a murder? Or was it a suicide?
The story also have another important character by the name of Tabitha who works at Baldwin Grill, she was Connor's first love.
Tabitha's pov generates tension because a doubt starts to come in the mind that whether she killed Nina because she wanted her first love back?
I don't want to talk much about the story. This is a perfect psychological thriller with really big twists at the end I swear I didn't see coming.
There are many people or I would say players at Windswept. As the story moved forward my doubt went to each of them but Michele proved me wrong. The final twist made my jaw drop.
I loved Nina, Tabitha, Connor. They're fabulous characters.
Narration of the story is mind blowing. No one can give this type of narration to this story other than Michele.
Thanks to NetGalley and HQ for giving me an advance copy of this psychological thriller.
The Wife Who Knew Too Much is an intense psychological thriller which is jam packed with twists and turns. Tabitha and Connor meet as teenagers and despite being from very different worlds, have a whirlwind romance one summer. They meet again several years later when their worlds are even further apart, but continue their relationship where things left off. When Connor’s rich wife Nina is found dead they can finally be together, but when Tabitha becomes a suspect in her murder you really don’t know who to believe.
The novel is partly set in the world of the rich and successful, which allows for a sense of over dramatisation. You could argue the story is far fetched, but if escapism is what you’re looking for, this is the book for you.
As soon as I read the synopsis of The Wife Who Knew Too Much I knew I HAD to read it! It is the story of Tabitha, age 17, who falls in love with Connor whilst she works as a pool girl at his family's country club. Class differences and a lack of approval from Connor's family eventually drive them apart leaving Tabitha heartbroken. Years later, Connor turns up at the diner Tabitha works at and their relationship is rekindled. The only problem is, Connor is now married to ultra-rich Nina and accustomed to the lavish lifestyle they lead. Nina's prenuptial agreement means Connor won't be entitled to a penny of her fortune, should she find out he has had an affair. So when Nina is found dead in a suspected suicide, it appears that Connor and Tabitha can finally be together. But is Tabitha his true love, or just a convenient scapegoat?⠀

I adore books where the main characters are from wealthy backgrounds... it's pure escapism for me! This one didn't let me down in that respect. I loved the glamourous descriptions of the Hampton's and lavish parties! However, some of the storylines and characters were a little stereotypical... for instance, the naive pool girl meets wealthy troublemaker boy. It would be good to read something I felt I'd never read before.⠀
⠀
I thought the first half of the book was a bit rushed, and I would have liked the storyline to build more gradually. The second half of the book was much better, and I loved the twists and turns in the ending. For once, I had loosely guessed the final outcome, although there was a surprising revelation between two of the characters I imagine no one could predict! I would have liked a meatier epilogue too... sometimes I find them a little tedious, but with this one, I would have liked to know more about what happened next!⠀
⠀
Overall, I enjoyed the book but it didn't blow me away. I have another Michelle Campbell book to read on my Kindle, so hopefully I enjoy that one more! ⠀

Thank you to @Netgalley for the ARC of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
This is a good paced book based around an apparent suicide of a rich woman, Nina. Nina is married to a handsome younger man called Connor. Around the time of his wife's suicide Connor runs into an old love flame Tabitha and they pick up from where they left off years ago. As the story goes on things are revealed and begins to get very dark for Tabitha when she starts to think about Nina's untimely death. A powerful story with a great mix of characters that flowed really well.
I've read a couple of books by this author but this is definitely her best. It had me hooked from the first page
with the entries in Nina’s journal and there were definitely some surprises throughout the book that I didn’t see coming.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read a preview copy.
Loved this, great storyline and characters. The book moved on well and never got boring. I enjoyedtheending as well.
Connor Ford is the love of Tabitha Girard's life in what should have been a summer fling but turned into something special for her. But their families were against their relationship and Connor broke her heart... Nina is one of the wealthiest women in New York, brought about when she married super-rich, much older Edward, inheriting everything after his death. The handsome and charming Connor is broke until he meets and marries Nina, twenty years his senior. He experiences a new world of money, a lavish mansion filled with staff, fancy cars, and planes. When Nina purportedly takes her own life, Connor is free and when he runs into Tabitha, their good times together come flooding back. Tabitha and Connor can now be a couple, can't they?
The Wife Who Knew Too Much was absolutely gripping and incredibly hard to put down. Major twists and turns kept the suspense levels soaring from start to finish. The characters were deftly drawn and I had a hard time separating the good ones from the bad. The ending was explosive and totally unpredictable. Very highly recommended.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from HQ via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
The first half of this book was good but a little slow....the second half made up for this by being very fast paced!
The story follows Tabitha, who as a teenager works on a ski resort and falls in love with Connor who is the grandson of a formidable guest. Tabitha is in disgrace and Connor does not stand by her.
Years later Connor finds Tabitha and the years seem to fall away. However Connor is now married to a very wealthy woman, Nina, and has a prenup meaning he will get nothing if he cheats on her.
When Nina is found dead in her swimming pool the heat is turned up and Tabitha has to work out if Connor is to blame!
A whirlwind of a second half, with twists and developments coming apace!
A great read.
