Another gripping Paterson and clocks novel by Steve Parker. This one was darker than some of the others but was thrilling and kept me hooked throughout
Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.
This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.
Child Behind the Wall: a Detective Ray Paterson crime thrillers Book #6
I’m honestly not exactly sure how I feel about this book. The police get called out to a house and whatthey find is carnage. This is only the beginning! That Detective Superintendent Ray Paterson and his trusty partner Detective Inspector John Clocks have to deal with. The crime was so shocking it took my breath away. Shocking but a great story. This book does contain really gruesome crime scenes so if you are squeamish, you might just want to skim in certain places.. I feel like the bad language was unnecessary and the graphic detail of violence was a little much. Also, this book is a cliffhanger.
An excellent thriller by Steve that I thoroughly enjoyed and couldn't put down! I would recommend it to anyone.
This was a great thriller that kept me quickly turning the pages! Full of twists and suspense, would recommend!
Wow 😯 what a rollercoaster of a read !! This is book 6 in the Patterson and Clocks series and the first book I’ve read by this author. I wish that I had known of this series before and read them in order as the 2 main characters personalities were definitely not like any other police officers in any other police procedural I’ve read ! Though near the end of the book it becomes clear as to why they are as they are !! Great read , definitely going to read the first 5 in the series!
Great plot to get yourself lost in. This book has everything you want it’s a real fast paced thriller. Will get your heart racing on more than one occasion. Very well written. Highly recommend this book
Took me a while to get to grips with this book. I tried a few times but the subject matter is very disturbing and at times a bit too graphic.
Great thriller which kept me turning the pages well into the night. Great characters and plot. Highly recommend to others!!
I really enjoyed this book, it was a good crime thriller that I didn’t realise was part of a series. The characters were really well developed and I felt like I really got to know them. I enjoyed the crime side of things and the way the story developed and changed. Loved the twists that were included and thought it was written really well. definitely recommend this book if you love a crime story!
A gripping tale about murder, child abuse, and a lot more! I was fascinated by the book and was really engrossed to see how it would end. The biggest disappointment to me was the character of Clocks. I found him very off-putting and really didn't think he added to the story. This is a book in a series and I had not read the previous ones so I felt like I did miss some back-story but it stood alone well.
What a story!!
A run of the mill burglary follow-up unearths a horrific serial killer family.
This book is number 6 in a series that I presume follows the careers of the two main characters: Paterson and Clocks. As a result of not reading any of the previous books I did miss out on a few bits of information regarding the backgrounds of these two, but not so much as to impair the reading of this book.
A gripping story, although it is rather on the gruesome side. And ends in a slight cliffhanger, no doubt book 7 will follow soon.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this book.
Ugh this one was so hard to put down. I had many late nights telling myself just one more page and then something crazy would happen and I would have to keep reading! Already recommended.
Serious trigger warnings for child abuse, violence against children, graphic violence, incest, sexual abuse, graphic abuse
Unfortunately this book did not work for me. I read a lot of intense mysteries so it wasn't the subject matter but the way it was handled. What really did not work for me was the way the abuse and the mental illness was handled. For me, it came across gratuitous. It was a plot device to prop around the lead detectives and their macho display of being "rogue" heroes and the reasoning behind why this occurred was not explored and there was not the proper respect for the victims. This could have been really interesting, but the execution did not work for me.
I know many enjoyed it, so I encourage you to check out Goodreads to see if this is your kind of read.
First off, this book has child abuse, incest, graphic violence against children, and mental illness. The graphic violence occurs in chapter one and continues throughout the book. I'm a big fan of this series and found myself not able to put this book down. Paterson and Clocks aren't particularly likable but they're well suited to each other and the dark, gritty nature of this book and series. There are plenty of shocking moments in this book and I'll admit I didn't see this ending coming. I'll definitely be waiting for the next book in this series.
Wow, amazing book, couldn't put it down, such a page turner, very gory and unbelievable that someone could do such horrible things to innocent children, but justice prevailed in the end for the baddies!
Oh my goodness, what a book. Totally different and one I couldn’t stop reading. Some really weird scenes come to mind but a great book and one not to miss.
I really enjoyed this book all the way through. It had a really good plot, great main characters and really keeps you hooked on the plot. I would highly recommend this book.
Wow this was a book that hold your attention.
Very gruesome, and at time felt to much, but it was necessary for the storyline.
Extremely well written and the story flowed smoothly, and at time I didn't want to stop reading, I was that engrossed.
Definitely a new author to me and one to follow closely.
Appreciate the opportunity to read the novel from NetGalley, Possibly not a book I would have just picked up, but well worth the read.
Fast moving action packed thriller featuring two very unconventional ,but likeable detectives. A very gory, horrific set of murders to be solved in their own way.
