I'm sorry to say that mysteries and thrillers are not my thing, but after reading the summary of "The Good Neighbour" I wanted to give this book a try. After reading it (albeit quickly, because it did keep my attention until the end) I have to once again face the fact that mysteries and thrillers are not my thing. The book is written by R. J. Parker and is set in England. The characters were hard for me to attach to, especially the villain who absolutely creeped me out. Sometimes I thought that Leah, the main character, was a victim of her own decisions, although I hate to accuse her of that. All in all, I have to say that the mystery was predictable, and the thrill was only partly thrilling. However, a great big thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to broaden my genre selection by granting me this advanced copy.

This is a riveting, physiological thriller with the most insane killer I have “met” in a book in a long time. The author wrote an intense book that I couldn’t put down. I had to read this in one day and I ignored anyone that tried to speak to me. It is a fast moving story that goes from the killer to the main character and back again. This is the type of book where the killer gets into the main character’s head, manipulating her to the point she can only do as instructed.

Leah is racing home late one night when she hits a deer. She goes to the nearest house looking for help and while she is faintly uncomfortable being in a strange house with a man she has never met she finds herself attracted to him. Her marriage is cold and lonely and she thinks maybe it would be nice to bring a bottle of wine the next day to thank the stranger for his assistance. She quickly finds out he was not the resident of the house and what ensues is a game of cat and mouse.

If you like quick paced books that keep you in the edge of your seat than this book is for you. I thank NetGalley and Harper Collins UK for the opportunity to read the ARC of this book.

I did finish it but overall wasn't my cup of tea. Dark undertones that didn't always mesh with the story and characters a bit too insipid.

This book held my attention from the first chapter and never let go. It wasn't a deep mystery, but a great thriller. The characters were not necessarily likeable, but that did not affect the story in a negative way. It was a quick read with a great story line.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this one in exchange for an honest review. I highly recommend it!

I thought this would be a great premise that would lead to an excellent book.. You get into an accident and the person you ask for help in the neighborhood ends up being a killer---but.....this book was just okay. I did not feel invested in Leah, the main character, at all and her relationship with her husband was weird. Unfortunately, I think that I expected too much.
I would recommend because it was fast paced and the second half of the book was better.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for a chance to read and review.

Leah accidentally hits a deer with her car on a country road on her way home.
He phone has no charge so she knock the door of a house to asked to use their phone to call the police and the AA to take her car to be repaired.
The man who answered the door is helpful and charming.
The next day Leah goes back to the house to thank him and finds that the house is surrounded by police cars. She is then told that a terrible crime had been committed the evening before at the property.
I enjoyed this book and read it in one day. It was fast paced and entertaining.

Leah is on her way home when she hits a deer and crashes her car. Stranded with her battery dead she decides to walk to a nearby house. When she knocks on the door a man named Martin answers the door and he lets her use his phone and even calls for help. Then when she decides to wait outside for help he even lends her his umbrella to wait outside.
So, after this when she gets home she decides to take him a glass of wine as a thank you for his help. But things take a wicked twist when she returns to the house and when she knocks on the door Martin doesn't answer the Police answer the door, then to make things worse they tell her that the residence of the home has been gruesomely murdered. However, Martin is not the homeowner. The residence of the home was a woman! Now with this new development that makes this chase of cat and mouse soo thrilling. Leah is the one who can identify Martin because she saw his face! So now she is in the for the run of her life literally!
Wow! This book had me literally reading as fast as I could! I was soo hooked, while Leah does not always make the best of choices the book was one thrilling ride! I definitely recommend it to anyone  who loves really great page turners and reading late into the night!

This was a fast paced quick and easy read. It is about Leah who runs into a deer in the road and crashes her car. She goes to a house for help and meets a man who she stumbles around with some weird uncomfortable encounter who helps her and she goes home. The next day she goes back to thank him but surprise he isn’t the owner of the home and the owner had actually been murdered that previous evening. This begins the game of the book. It was quick which was nice but it was honestly painful to read through Leah’s really dumb decisions. I tried to give the benefit of the doubt because she made these decisions for the story to continue but it was just a bit eye rolling towards the end like COME ON already! It took me about half the book to really be invested. The beginning just felt like it didn’t flow quite right on grasping who Leah was and to understand her mind set. Overall it was just ok for me.

Reading this novel isn't like being on a rollercoaster, it's like being on a merry-go-round that gets faster and faster and faster. Whilst the author doesn't delve too deeply in the characters' backstory or their psyche there is lots to commend this as a thriller. The pace is ferocious; it doesn't let up from beginning to end. Yes, the reader has to employ a suspension of reality mindset, but sometimes what we all need is a novel that we're engrossed in, with a plot that can't ever really happen in real life (we'll. some of it could, but I'd hope it wouldn't be all of it at the same time!), and with writing that is free-flowing and gripping. The Good Neigbour provided all of that and I read it in just two sittings.

I loved this book! I was sent it on Friday late evening and had finished it by Sunday morning.
The story had me gripped from page one and there were plenty of twists and turns throughout.
The characters are well developed during the book and the plot intriguing.
I’d definitely recommend this one and it’s worthy of a big fat 5 stars.

Note to self: Always make sure your phone is charged. If only Leah had, then the nightmare her life became could have been avoided. And what a nightmare it was! The Good Neighbor pulled me right in. With some very creepy and tense scenes I was sucked in to finding out how it all played out. Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for the ARC!!!

I first came across author R. J. Parker when I read “While You Slept” and whilst I thought it was a great read, it doesn’t compare to my thoughts and feelings towards this upcoming release - this one is definitely a killer read by comparison!

If you’ve followed my account and blog for long enough you will know I am rather partial to a dark and twisty thriller, or a deep psychological suspense. This book is an amalgamation of everything I could want.

The start was simple and very relatable. Leah has a near miss on the road, but tragically hits a deer a few moments later. Her car is mangled and her mobile phone has a dead battery. Little do you know, this situation sets up the premise for the rest of the story.

The characters throughout are all flawed, but relatable to the reader. I flew through the pages and experienced all the emotions: Anger, frustration, panic.

The surprise twist at the end came out of nowhere and reminded me that Parker stirred up a thought provoking emotional response last time at the end of “While You Sleep”. Clearly this is the authors style and I for one love it.

My only criticism as a reader is that I felt the middle of the story was too descriptive for my personal liking. I understand it was required to help in the build up of the characters and where the ending was heading, but ultimately I felt it could have been shorter to keep me on the edge of my seat. This is my personal reason for not rating “The Good Neighbour” 5 stars. Don’t let this steer you away from reading this latest thriller, it certainly still packs a punch.

Overall another fast paced thriller with short and snappy chapters from R. J. Parker. I very much look forward to reading more from him in the future.

Leah Talbot has a car accident when close to home. After ending up in a ditch, she seeks help from a neighbour. Martin Tate answers the door, and lets her in. He's charming and helpful, and after managing to get home, Leah goes back the following morning to thank him. Except he isn't there. The police are there. Leah's neighbour has been murdered. Her female neighbour, Alice Booth. And there's only one suspect.

I loved this book. It was a very easy read and I devoured it in one sitting. There was no real mystery to it, as it was obvious who the killer was, so it was a very straightforward story. But that doesn't mean that it wasn't compelling. It takes place over the course of about 24 hours, and after Leah learns about the fate of her neighbour, the story changes pace and it then becomes about a search for Tate. Except Tate is fixated on Leah, and is determined to pull the strings. He leads blackmails her and leads her on a separate man hunt, which takes her to a few gruesome discoveries. At every stage, we then have a chapter from Tate, so we know how he has managed to keep one step ahead of her. I really enjoyed that element of it. Knowing what Leah was about to walk into before she did meant at some stages I was holding my breath when reading this book, and was the main reason why I read it in a few hours. I had to know what was going to happen next.

I would definitely recommend this book. It was fast-paced, creepy (in a good way) and extremely compelling. A perfect way to while away an evening in lockdown

Omg! It’s fascinatingly riveting page turner makes you anxious, sit at the edge of your seat squirming but you cannot help yourself and you turn the pages a little faster to pump the full adrenaline into your veins till you feel better the crush!

This is one of my fastest reads and it was quiet entertaining mouse-cat chase, action packed, heart pounding, twisty ride!

Let’s give you more clues about story line if you didn’t already read the blurb!

Leah Talbot hits the deer on the deserted road close to her village. She realizes there’s a house lights on nearby. She knocks the door to get help, meeting with charismatic Martin Tate who becomes her knight in shiny armor, inviting her into his place. Poor Leah is shaken, hysterical but also appreciative the help she gets from her mystic charming man.

Then very next day she rings the door twice like a postman to say thank you with hope to see her charming man again but alas her dreamy man is product of her vision. The police welcomes her, telling her the resident of the house is brutally murdered!

Don’t worry the charming boy is not dead! The resident of the house is a woman. Chill out!
Of yes, there’s a some detail: now we gotta worry about Leah because she’s the one who spent her time with a killer all night long! She’s the one who saw his face which makes her
quiet delicious prey/ target for her deer hunter!

Buckle up and get ready the crazy chase between Leah and Martin! It’s fast, it’s jaw dropping, it’s absolutely thrilling!

I’m giving my 4 ultra exciting, mind spinning, whirlwind, crazy wild stars!

It’s easy to read, unputdownable, very addictive!

Following a terrible car wreck involving a deer, Leah finds herself in a scantilly populated area. Not too far from home, yet banged up and in the pouring rain, Leah seeks help. She has no phone charge - so decides to knock on the door of a nice house she has looked at before.

Greeted by Tate Martin, Leah finds that he is nice and attentive. He calls the AA, the police and offers to call Leah an ambulance. Leah faints a couple of times at Tate's place, and the final time he lightly kisses her. Although her husband, Elliot, is a cheat, Leah is taken back by Tate's gesture. Tate tells her that this "is not how I" normally behave. Leah decides to wait outside in the pouring rain for the AA truck.

So how DOES Tate normally behave?

Many kudos to R J Parker !!! A winning book!

Also, many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a wonderful read!

What a thrill....

This book was fast-paced, suspenseful and quit thrilling.

There is so much tension and little twists that has you wanting to pace as you read. Each chapter unearthed clues and had me guessing every which way as to what would happen next.

I really enjoyed this one, only wish there was a stronger motivation behind the killers reasoning. It was a bit shaky when it came down to the structure of the set of events to spur the plot forward.

I would definitely recommend to a friend!
