Finished this last night 10/13/2020 I was so excited when I saw this because Keanu Reeves has always fascinated and intrigued me - I actually waited on him at the counter at Pinz when I worked there and didn’t even know it till one of the accountants came down because she had to see him / loved him he was so quiet and humble he seriously acted like any other normal person. The book has a lot of information but also a lot of speculation as he is a quite man the approach to challenging what is known and what is speculation was appreciated. I know this was an ARC so I am hoping there is still some editing to be done, for me there were many issues for me with sentence structure and such that had me rereading often to understand what was being said, the organization / structure or lack of clear time line or categorical presentation also threw me a bit but for information / content it was overall a good read. I liked the challenge of perspectives pointing out that we often see what we want and many project their own desires, thoughts, and feelings on Keanu and his behaviors especially because he is a man of few words and more reserved leaving people to sit and speculate without much refute. I like the defense that “loners” or introverts are not unhappy or sad and some are actually more content and happy than those surrounded by millions ... it was an interesting take and perspective on a story that many have attempted to tell. I also loved hearing about his choice making for films “fuck the bucks” and being more about the experience and doing what he wanted -again also interesting to see what the media and other say is the reason for his selection and the assumptions ... if you want the basics on Keanu and the challenge of assumptions then this is a good read.
I received a copy from NetGalley; this is my honest review.
-The only info I knew from Keanu Reeves were that he was a bit older than me, he played in Speed, and he was in love - or I thought he was - with either Julia Roberts or Sandra Bullocks. The reason I chose to read the book was the publisher's great marketing about it (Riverdale) that came through my email.
-The story starts in his early life of childhood through early 2020 and what people can expect in 2021-2022.
-The way the author made the book plan got me confused at times - okay, many times - as I was struggling to understand certain years of his life. If I would have been a fan, I guess that would not have happened. Instead of plunging through the years, he takes one bit and another bit and gives us the details so that if we're talking about his love life and the chapter finishes in 2012, let's say, and the next chapter is about his movies, we're going back to the 1990's. Why not put the details of what happened during a section of years all together instead?
-For those who never read the author's notes, these are at the very beginning and are worth reading.
-One thing that did surprised me what the introduction to the book was longer than chapters 1-2 combined. While finishing the book, I realized that the intro is actually a resume of the whole book.
-The book is really short, but the author chose to repeat facts 2-3 times. For ex., Keanu's mother lived and worked in a bohemian lifestyle. He also repeated seldom used expressions elsewhere such as "tongue firmly planted in cheek", "pigeonholed" and "dollars and cents".
-Editing: Wrong words (move/movie, manager/manger), too many words (recommended his Keanu), badly constructed phrases (but his attitude was that didn't have anything to do with ... or but it than that Keanu decided to play ... ).
-Wow moment. Mr. Reeves "loved going to a hamburger stand called Licks", which now turned into a brick & mortar franchise. We have one here where I live.
-There is much information in the book about Keanu and his career; not so much about his family. It reads like a magazine full of gossip and bits and pieces of news. It's interesting and you can feel that Mr. Reeves has a life full of adventure and action, even though he likes to retrieve to the peacefulness of his dwellings once in a while. He's dedicated to what he believes in and doesn't shy from making the stunts by himself after being trained for them.
-LOL moment. Every time I look at the title I start laughing. An Unauthorized Autobiography. It's like having Keanu think to himself that he's going to write his life on paper but doesn't want it published. It really should be biography not autobiography since he didn't write it himself...
I enjoyed this Book and enjoyed learning about Keanu and his life
With Thanks to Netgalley & Riverdance Avenue Books for the arc of this book in exchange for this honest review
As a huge fan of Keanu Reeves, I just had to read this book. It was extremely detailed and gave me an insight into who exactly Keanu Reeves is. As a very private celebrity, we never really get to know what makes him tick. But this biography confirmed what I have always thought, that Keanu is a down to earth, honest, kind soul.
This book is a great summary of a truly fascinating person. I've always thought Keanu Reeves was interesting as he seems very real and down-to-earth despite all his fame and wealth, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to review this book for NetGalley and Riverdale Avenue Books and find out how he does it. I wasn't sure what to expect of an unauthorized biography but was pleasantly surprised to find that it was very respectful, following the progress of his family and personal life as well as his very accomplished and varied career and even some of his thoughts as stated in interviews. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan or wants to learn more about Keanu Reeves.
This book was provided to me as an eArc by NetGalley in exchange for a fair review..
This is an informative biography that I found both interesting and enjoyable to read., There is a ton of information about Keanu Reeves. I learned a lot about his childhood, formative years and development as an actor who is not caught up in the trap of being a celebrity. The book is based on articles and published interviews which I confess I had never read before so this was all virgin territory for me. I came away with real insight into Reeves, an actor who when asked how he manages to stay grounded apparently replied "Gravity" which I happen to think is a most excellent answer.
I'm sure it's a wonderful book but the first few chapters seemed so vague and losse that I put the book down.
A very well done book on a subject that is an amazing person. We all think of this man as a national treasure and this book just confirmed it.
I had to read this because Keabu Reeves has to be close to the top of my list of favorite actors. Yes, he is dreamy and can play any role, but that is not what gets me about him. He has all the fame and glory from Hollywood and being an A-lister but he is humble and kind with no ego!!! I love that and this is what is discussed a lot through this book, the actor's shyness even in the face of crazy success. Surprised by how much I loved this, but I did. and recommend it for any Keanu fan.
Thanks to Netgalley, Marc Shapiro and Riverdale Avenue Bok Pop for an after publication copy in exchange for an honest review,

Amazing- first bio that is actually researched! I love that it wasn't all rehashed stuff from websites and magazines. And it's actually a well-written book! Keanu Reeves fans will love this one. Contained a bit of new material I haven't read anywhere before. True tales or not, it's a fun and insightful read. I hope the book contains SOME photos, the Kindle copy doesn't have any, a fact some fans may find sad.
An interesting read about the actor Keanu Reeves. This book tells about his upbringing. His mother's background and a bit about his sister. It focuses mainly on his fight to becoming an actor.
He also loves theater. He has been known to turn down high paying acting jobs to focus on theater.
We learn of his movies. Well known ones and maybe ones that we weren't aware that he had been in.
All in all we learn that Keanu doesn't live with a huge ego. He is content with living a simple life, Basicly he is who he is. Quiet, shy with a great sense of humor.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of Keanu Reeves' Excellent Adventure.
I'm a huge fan of Keanu Reeves and have had a massive crush on him ever since Bill & Ted so I was so excited when my request was approved.
The author pieces a basic biography of Mr. Reeves' formative years, his childhood, his burgeoning interest in acting and how he came to LA to pursue his dream.
Since this is an unauthorized biography, quotes and material were culled from magazines, interview transcripts, and television shows; no interviews with relatives/showbiz people were collected.
This was enjoyable and easy to read character study of one of our most underrated, kindest, most generous actors on the planet.
I would recommend this to any Keanu Reeves fan; this is in no way an in-depth biography, but still interesting and informative.
I enjoyed this book. It's about the rather mysterious, talented, caring and compassionate Keanu Reeves. I thought that I knew a lot about him, and I knew he had been abandoned by his father at a young age. But I didn't know he then had to deal with two step-fathers and moving around all the time from Canada, to the Riviera, and then to Los Angeles. His life has not been easy. He has suffered the loss of the two people he dearly loved. The woman that he loved and his only child who would have been a boy. He had said he would always be there for his child and would never leave him or her like his father did him. Despite all of this heartache, Keanu continued to act in his movies, later becoming a director and even directing himself in some of his movies. Now he has his own production company too. But what I admire most about Keanu Reeves is not that he a star but that he is a giving and giving and compassionate ordinary guy. He rides the subway except when he's driving his sports car or motorcycle, and gives anonymously to charities such as Children's Hospitals fighting Cancer, and other causes he supports. He's also been at Charity Events when he was one of the persons who was taking calls from people calling to donate.
He has had two stalker incidents. The last one happening when he was out of town. A woman got into his house, took a shower in his house, and made herself comfortable waiting on him to return. Fortunately, he was out of town, and was notified, and she was taken away for psychiatric examination. Now he is working on Matrix 4 which should be out in early 2021, and the newest Bill and Ted Excellent Adventure- Bill and Ted Face the Music featuring Keanu Reeves as Ted and Alex Winters as Bill again which is to be released soon. Keanu is a quiet person, who often prefers to stay to himself with a good book in hand and good music too, but he does enjoy spending time with his friends too. He said he does want to marry some day and have children, but for now he remains one of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors. I hope he does he does find his happily ever after soon. This is the first book I've read by Marc Shapiro, but I will read others. Thank you to Net Galley, the author, and the publisher Kindle Edition for giving me the opportunity to read this book. Check it out for an entertaining read I'm sure you'll enjoy!
This was an enjoyable secondary biography of Keanu Reeves. The work covers his childhood and his rise to prominence as an actor and a celebrity as well as his extensive filmography. It is by choice a light read and is overwhelmingly positive about its subject. If you are looking for a tell all biography or a critical examination of the subject this is not the book for you. It is however, a very readable introduction to the extraordinary life of one of the nicest actors the world has seen. If you are a Keanu fan and are looking to learn a bit more this is a great place to start..
The book is based entirely on other published works without any added interviews or investigative work. It does an excellent job of weaving material from these interviews and magazine articles into a cohesive narrative.
This book was provided to me as an eArc by NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.
I’m a lifelong fan of Keanu Reeves, I’ve loved him in Youngblood, and then in Bill and Ted and I have loved everything he’s done since (admittedly some more than others). I thought I knew most everything there was to know about him (well, the public persona, I’m guessing nobody knows the private Keanu), how wrong was I? I’ve obviously missed out on quite a bit. This part biography, part character study was informative, interesting and addictive. Photographs would have been a huge bonus, but admittedly that isn’t what this book is about. If you’re a Keanu fan, I hugely recommend it. I thought I was a super fan, I think not, I’m amazed how much I didn’t know about his life and his acting career until I read this book. Alas, I must now go. I’ve got a few more movies to watch. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest review.
