This is an absolutely adorable story. The relationships between characters are very realistic and the art style is beautiful.
I cannot wait for more volumes.

This was a cute story about siblings finding out more about their mother's past. I liked the art and I liked the way the story went, but I would have loved to learn a bit more about the story overall. There might be another volume coming, but personally I'd just have a longer first volume with more story than short and quick volumes.

The Gremillet Sisters is a small and beautiful tale of a family of three sisters and their mother. The three children are quite different from each other which makes it quite a task to get along, but they try to and love each other. Lush settings and sisterly quibbles abound. However, Sarah is haunted by dreams which she realizes are significant when she discovers an old photo of their mother.
The artwork is beautiful and the reader is swept along with the story. The plot builds well reaching a climax with Lucille's disappearance.
I would recommend this to slightly older children, maybe past the age of 12, who can appreciate and understand the writing and some of the topics better than their younger counterparts (The book is tinged with some pain and melancholy dealing with the mother's past)
I would like to repeat that I loved the art and the natural dialogue and am waiting to read the rest of the series!

4 1/5 stars. The concept and art work are beautiful. I loved the story of sisterhood. There are no others words to explain the book , other than I loved it to the core.

The half star deduction is for story , it could've been longer but may be it is kept in store for next volumes. I am still in the memories of the beautiful art work.

Thank you NetGalley, Publication and Author for the ARC.

This is a sweet graphic novel about sisterhood, family and uncovering secrets. The art style is gorgeous and the layout of images and texts makes the story easy to read and follow. I loved the dynamic of the three sisters - their relationship felt very real and I think readers with siblings will be able to relate to the characters easily. I was disappointed by the reveal of the family secret as I felt the story and illustrations set it up to be a magical/mystical reveal, which it isn't - there is no magical element to this book. But overall, I enjoyed the art style, the characters and family dynamic portrayed in the story.

Night after night Sarah is haunted by the same dream. A forest, a tree, a glass house, and a jellyfish. But she always wakes up before it finishes. One day Sarah finds a photograph of her mother standing in front of a tree, the very same one from her dreams. She enlists the help of her two younger sisters to uncover the mystery of their mother's past.

I absolutely loved the art style for this comic. It's reminiscent of W.I.T.C.H. so I found it a bit nostalgic. The dynamics between the three sisters were so fun to read and quite realistic. I also loved how each sister had their own personality and felt like their own person. The story itself was captivating right from the beginning. I do have to say that I expected the conclusion of the story to be more magical than it turned out to be. But I'm looking forward to reading more of this series and getting to know the secrets of the Grémillet family.

A Family Secret

The illustrations in this book are beautiful at times, in particular the jellyfish forest that opens up the book and is seen later. As one of five sisters myself, I'm always drawn to books about sisters, and this one did not disappoint. Sister Sarah is having recurring dreams about a jellyfish forest and a magical treehouse with a room for her mother, but she always wakes up at the same point, never finding out more. When Sarah and her mother are talking the next morning, Mom escapes quickly after Sarah asks if her favorite animal as a child was a jellyfish. But it makes her, and then her sisters, curious enough to try to figure out what secret their mother might be hiding. They start exploring and find something that adds to the mystery. When the mother is asked about it, her secret comes to light. The book certainly surprised me, starting with such a whimsical, fantasy setting that turned out to be a dream but then pivoting to a family mystery and drama, which was a pleasant surprise. For a book that is essentially a “comic” book, it has surprising heart. I loved each of the very different sisters, and the author did a good job distinguishing them and making them feel like real girls and bickering sisters! I look forward to future books about these young ladies.

This was a nice quick graphic novel. It does deal with some serious topics, but does it in a way that I feel will not overwhelm a younger audience. The art style wasn't my taste but I believe children will enjoy it.

First off the art work is stunning!!! This was such a beautiful story of love and loss! I can't wait for a second volume and see where these sisters go next!

Entertaining and visually impressive, this still felt a little slight. I guess it's suited more for a younger audience, and it certainly features lots of youths – our leads are three girls, in fact, of the typically bickering sort. In some unconfirmed, generic European city, one of them is constantly waking up at the same place in a dream featuring the girls floating through greenery with jellyfish, and finding their mother. A discovery at home hints at a secret in the mother's past – but she's not telling. I think what lets this down a little is that, while it's billed as part one of a series, it's a self-contained story, and while I was enjoying the build-up I didn't realise we'd get a proper resolution within these covers. As a result, investing in the book (and trying to both like and distinguish the annoyingly yacky, tacky girls) as I was, the ending seemed a little rushed. The artwork isn't good enough to actually define an age for each child and stick with it, but it is still quite pretty. Three and a half stars from me, with the expectation a younger, perhaps female target audience would like it more.

I loved this book! A very quick and easy read that dealt with a tough issue in a sensitive manner. I actually didn't realise the direction it was going until the end. The illustrations are gorgeous and the characters lovely. I wish this book was longer!

I received an e-copy of this through netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this! Although this is definitely aimed at younger audiences so the 'truth' or mystery aspect was easy for me to predict, I still adored the story and how it built to the reveal. The graphics are beautiful and the 'reveal' of their mother's mysterious past was just beautiful and heartbreaking.

Sarah, the oldest Grémillet sister, has been having a recurring dream in which she follows jellyfish to a greenhouse within a giant tree. When she looks through the window, she sees a tiny jellyfish looking at her sat on her mothers bed, but everytime she tries to explore more she wakes up. That morning over breakfast, the girls start questioning their mother about her mysterious past but their mother makes a quick escape. The girls take it upon themselves as a new mission for their 'three sisters club' to discover the truth. They explore the attic and come across old photos, one of which shows their mother pregnant, standing under the same tree from Sarah's dreams. From here, the girls investigate more before eventually coming to realise that the photo is 20 years old. They confront their mother to find out where the picture is taken, and who she was pregnant with as it cannot be any of them. The truth will bring the family even closer together than before.

I'm assuming there is more to this story in future volumes, and if that is the case I would be eager to read those. Regardless, I highly recommend this to anyone who wants a quick, fun but gorgeous story to read.

4.5/5

This book is so cute!!!!!!!! Aw man it made me happy. What a heart-warming, short story to make anyone’s day.

The artwork is absolutely gorgeous and the plot is sweet and to the point. Character design is great and the dialogue was fresh. I wish it was longer!
If I had to give any criticism it’s that I wish there was more variety in the panels. The panels were easy to follow but kind of boring. Basically everything stayed within its rectangle for the most part.

Otherwise I really enjoyed the book! I would love to read more from the author and illustrator.

It also doesn’t hurt that I share a name with one of the characters :P

This was absolutely beautiful. The art style is really gorgeous and the characters really felt like sisters. I read it in one sitting, because I was really interested in the mystery about their mom and the strange dreams, and it didn't disappoint. The story was really beautiful and I have to admit I shed a few tears at the end. I really recommend it to anyone, and trust me, it's worth reading.

An absolutely beautiful and fantastic visual journey! The Gremillet Sisters takes the reader into vivid and visual imagination. Lovely book!

Graphic novels are such a great thing that not everyone thinks they are. I hear a lot of parents say "oh those comics? Why don't you pick out a real book?" But for some kids these are real books, because they are a struggling reader. The Gremillet Sisters paints such a beautiful world and is very inviting and the art work is lovely. I think a lot of children will really enjoy this story and be looking forward to more in the series.
The sisters had such great personalities and I loved the adventures they were taking us on.

Thanks NetGalley for this preview.

It was cute. The art style was beautiful but the story didn’t go the way I was expecting.

I was hoping for more of a magical tale but the only magic in here were the jellyfishes in Sarah’s dream. There’s also the mother’s storyline, it didn’t pay off as much because her character was barely there. The sisterly bond is more of a telling story than showing, making all of the characters feel underdeveloped.

I think that if the comic had been longer it could have created a beautiful story full of character development.

I follow Barbucci's IG because I used to be a huge W.I.T.C.H fan (and tbh I still am) and I love his art, so when I saw a while ago he was working on this new Grémillet story, of course I was interested! Then it showed up on Netgalley and I was lucky enough to get a free digital copy.

This is the first volume of The Grémillet Sisters, three young girls who live with their mother Magda: Sarah, the oldest, who dreams of a jellyfish forest every night; Cassiopeia, who "lives in her own world", and Lucille, the youngest, who mostly talks to Yurei, their cat. They decide to create a project for mother's day and investigate their mother's past, since it's clear Magda is keeping a secret from them.

To do that, they bring back to life their "three sister club" (absolutely adorable - all three of them are so cute and they truly interact like sisters do!), and decide to search the attic to try to find clues about what their mom hides. There, the girls find an old picture of Magda, pregnant, in front of what looks like the tree from Sarah's dream.

The art is fantastic, I love how expressive their faces are and how dreamy all the scenarios look like. It's a quite short story but it shows very clearly their family bonds and love for each other, and in the end I got so emotional I almost cried.......... So, yeah, probably one of the best reads of the year here!!!
