When an Oxford student accuses one of the university's professors of sexual assault, DI Adam Fawley's team think they've heard it all before. But they couldn't be more wrong.
Because this time, the predator is a woman and the shining star of the department, and the student a six-foot male rugby player.
Soon DI Fawley and his team are up against the clock to figure out the truth. What they don't realise is that someone is watching.
And they have a plan to put Fawley out of action for good...
I just started this series last year and it is my current favourite!
This book is another excellent addition to this series. I honestly don’t know how to review it without giving any spoilers!
So, I’ll keep it short by saying…. Extremely well written plot. For me it was an incredible read with lots of suspense and twists throughout. I couldn’t wait to reach the end!
It’s a series I’ll highly recommend to all crime fiction lovers.
Thank You NetGalley and Penguin General UK for this ARC!

I did not even realise that this was the 5th book in a series! I liked that it started off with a brief rundown of the characters from the previous 4 books. However, I didn’t really connect with the characters - possibly because I didn’t really know them well. There was also a lot of characters to keep track of, and having not read the previous books probably didn’t help.
What really bugged me was that it’s not properly chaptered - it just goes through the whole story without any proper breaks.
I found it hard to follow the story with the constant changes in perspective - it honestly annoyed me so much that it would switch at least once per page.
I’m sorry that I was unable to finish this but i’d rather not finish than push through and give a negative review. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

Can I give this more than 5 stars? I'm a wreck after finishing this.....
When Adam Fawley is called personally to a university regarding a sexual assault case involving a rugby player he thinks he knows what to expect. Except the rugby player is tge victim. The accused a female faculty member, one of university's stars. Fawley is unsure on who to believe but then he's pretty distracted. His wife Alex is heavily pregnant, ordered to rest after a scare. They're obviously stressed but just to add to their worries Gavin Parrie, the Roadside Rapist that they helped convict is out of prison.....
Just what is Cara Hunter trying to do to us? Honestly I've not been this stressed reading a book in years. At the centre is an excellent he said/she said whodunit and then a seriously stressful plot involving Fawleys past. And both story's were so good it felt like a two for one deal. The next part can't come quick enough!

I quite enjoyed this latest from DI Adam Fawley although it is far less Adam Fawley investigating and more about many other DIs, DSs, DCs and their personal lives I could barely keep up with them all.
A good compelling story but I did wonder why Cara Hunter chose to write about two completely unrelated, but worthy investigations in one book. I felt the main story had a good ending but the wrap up of the other story about the university professor was inadequate and unsatisfactory.
The use of different media from handwritten notes, podcasts, texts, forensic and other investigation reports was interesting and would have added to the plot but unfortunately most were not readable on a kindle. The use of initials during police interrogations, although realistic, also added to some confusion.
This book is well written and has a good plot but for me the pace at the start was a bit slow, there were too many characters and the dialogue chopped and changed too frequently.
With thanks to netgalley for the advance copy for an honest review.

Loved this book by Cara Hunter but hadn’t realised that it was fifth in the DI Adam Fawley series. I don’t feel that it mattered really that I hadn’t read the earlier books and it certainly didn’t affect my enjoyment of reading this one.
There are two storylines running side by side- one is a current sexual assault allegation regarding a university professor and her student and the other involves his wife’s connection to a previous murder case investigated by her husband .
Both stories were full of suspense and the sexual assault case had so many twists and turns that at times I couldn’t tell who was actually telling the truth. Towards the end of the book I often ended up reading into the small hours because I couldn’t stand the suspense.
So that’s yet another series I need to add to my list of “series I need to complete”. The list gets longer and longer.

The Whole Truth is the fifth instalment in the series of DI Adam Fawley, which I wasn’t aware of before I started it. I think I would have enjoyed it more had I read the other books in the series first (despite this book helpfully providing a brief introduction to Adam and his team) as I have a complete aversion to not starting a series from the beginning!
However considering I’m not a massive fan of police procedural books these days, this is definitely up there with the good ones. With dual storylines and plenty of twists and turns, I was completely invested in the story and it didn’t feel samey like most crime books do. I’ll definitely be looking to read the other books in the series at some point!
Big thanks to NetGalley and Penguin General UK for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A must read. So many possible suspects. Two stories running at the same time.
This book is packed with characters. None of them are irrelevant - all of them a stitch in the tapestry that weaves this superb book into a great read.
DI Adam Fawley has his hands full. He is working on a sexual assault case, his DC has recently been demoted after getting involved with a suspect. The summer is at its peak and his wife is near to giving birth. Both parents are anxious.
Adam Fawley is not expecting what happens next.
I particularly liked the way the texts are written and the book is logged by date and time, much like I imagine a police officer’s notebook would look.
5 stars from me, loved it.

This series just gets better book on book. I'm fiercely attached to all the detectives and their personal lives. The Whole Truth comes 5th in this series, and you could read as a standalone, but I think you'd be mad not to read them all.
It features a sexual assault case at one of the Oxford Universities, along with a old case popping up to haunt one of the main characters. Gripping, unpredictable and with a moving mad pace, I'd highly recommend.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a very different slant on sexual assault. Went along at a cracking pace. Will read the previous books in the series.

I really enjoyed this thriller, it's my first from this author and I'm now keen to go back and read the previous 4 in this series. The characters are well-developed, rounded and I liked the different personalities in D.I. Fawley’s team.
There are two main plotlines, one concerning the sexual assault, the other about D.I. Fawley’s wife and a murder case from 18 years ago. They intersected well and I enjoyed following the Police procedure. There's great use of modern communications to develop the story e.g. text messages and podcasts. The story draws the reader in straight away, it’s believable and well-paced with great twists.
Also review in Polish of this book which is titled Mroczna Prawda - I reviewed in both languages on my bookstagram
Recenzja: Piąta książka w serii inspektora Fawleya, można czytać oddzielnie.
Bardzo podobał mi się ten thriller. Postacie są dobrze rozwinięte i podoba mi się zespól D.I. Fawleya. Są dwa główne wątki, jeden dotyczący napaści na tle seksualnym, drugi dotyczący Żony D.I. Fawleya i sprawę o morderstwo sprzed 18tu lat. Do rozwijania tej historii autorka świetnie wykorzystuje nowoczesne media, m.in. wiadomości tekstowe i podcasty. Opowieść od razu wciąga czytelnika, jest wiarygodna i akcja ma dobre tempo. Jest też kilka świetnych zwrotów akcji.

I read this so quickly as it was enjoyable. All I can say is fantastic. It was my first one by this author but they give a complete low down of who is who before you start (so helpful) and now I’m off to read the rest of them.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Thanks to Netgalley and the author and publishers for the privilege of reading this book for my honest review.

This is the fifth book in the series featuring DI Adam Farley and his team. If you haven’t read any of the previous books you can soon catch up as Cara Hunter provided profiles at the beginning of the book of all the main characters. There are three separate threads running through the book. One is an incident that Adam and his team are investigating. The incident concerns a sexual assault at the university where a female professor is accused of sexual assault by a male student. The second one is the brutal murder of a young woman with connections to Adam. The third thread is that Alex, Adam’s wife is pregnant and needs his support as she is traumatised over the death of their son Jake. Garry Parrie known as the Roadside Rapist, who Adam helped convict, has been released from prison. Alex is convinced he is watching them as he made threats against them when he was convicted. Jocelyn Smith, who campaigns for Miscarriage of Justice, claims that Parrie is innocent and is reviewing his case in a podcast. There are different forms of narrative in the book with podcasts, emails, press articles etc which don’t always make easy reading. This is a great read, a little slow at the start it the pace increases and keeps you gripped until the end. A highly recommended series of books.
Thanks to Netgalley and Penguin for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

@carahunterauthor is one of my absolute favourites, and an autobuy author for me. I always recommend her books to anyone looking for a good thriller. The way she writes is so unique and I find myself getting completely lost in everything she writes. I find a lot of thrillers and police procedural to be predictable and it isn’t often I rate them 5 stars but this series is completely different.
This is number five in the DI Adam Fawley series and I loved it just as much as the first four. We join the usual team, headed by DI Fawley, and this time, the case is an Oxford professor being accused of sexual assault on a student, however all is not as it seems. There is also a side plot where DI Fawley seems to be getting into a dangerous situation he can’t find a way out of.
This series is compelling, twisty, fast paced and has everything you need to make the perfect thriller. I thrive on twists and this has plenty! The characterisation is spot on and the plots are always multilayered and unexpected. You end up really connecting with the members of the police force and rooting for them, especially in this book when DI Fawley finds himself in a tricky situation!
There are no chapters in these books, which would usually put me off but that is definitely not the case here. The author cleverly breaks up the story with newspaper reports, police interviews and podcasts. And to be honest I didn’t even notice the lack of chapters because I was turning the pages so quickly!
I am eagerly anticipating the next one in the series to get my fix! If you haven’t read this series please give it a go, you won’t regret it!

I’ve really enjoyed this whole series so I could not wait to read this next instalment by Cara Hunter.
I have to start by saying I don’t think you should read this one if you haven’t read the other four books in the series yet. Go read them first then come back…😌
So, four books in I now know the characters quite well and that’s lucky as they are at the forefront of this book. If you aren’t familiar with their backstory you likely won’t care much about what happens in this book.
I did very much enjoy it overall, but this is not my favourite of the series so far. It was nowhere near as twisty as her other books but to be honest she did set the bar REALLY high on that front, the authors other books are 👌🏻
The first half was just a little too slow for me, with the rape case not being really that interesting. It kicks right off about half way through though, so do persevere, and from that point I actually finished it pretty quickly.
Apparently the series is being made into a TV show which is quite exciting! If they don’t cast Lee Ingleby as Adam Fawley I will be so disappointed, I’m far too attached to his voice now from the audiobooks 🤣
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. I did end up spending my own £ on the audiobook as I really enjoy listening to the series that way.

Unfortunately, i am no longer interested in giving feedback on this title. I will rate this based on what I have seen of other reviews.

Thank you NetGalley, Cara Hunter and the publisher Penguin for letting me read this book.
4 Stars.
I have read all of the DI Adam Fawley books to date and they are all as good as each other. There is not one that stands out more than the others, which is a good thing as ir is hard to pick a huge favourite within a series.
This book had a few twists and turns that I was not expecting. I thought that I had worked bits out but just when I thought I had an unexpected twist appears. Obviously the twists appeared in a good way.
Well done Cara, this book was just as enjoyable as the others. I am looking forward to finding out if there us a sixth one.

An interesting & very current police procedure novel. Plenty of twists & surprises to keep the reader guessing. I didn’t realise when I requested that this was part of a series and feel I missed out a bit with some of the other characters storylines but this has been easily rectified by reading the first 4!

The Whole Truth by Cara Hunter is full of surprises.
DI Fawley and his team are called in to an Oxford college when a male student accuses a female professor of sexual assault. In the Whole Truth little is what it initially seems, you keep being thrown of track and the twists and turns run right to the very last page.
Thought provoking, a little edgy and well well worth a read.

This book gave a brilliantly written alternative lens to the crime of sexual assault, from the eyes of a male victim. Lots of plot twists and turns which keep you hooked right to the last page.
Thank you to Netgalley and Cara Hunter for the opportunity to review this book.
